Location, location, location. It's a block from the beach without paying an ocean view room rate. Although we didn't have an ocean view, we did have a balcony. This hotel seems newer with more modern fixtures in the room, large beautifully decorated lobby and spacious layout. The 2 bed queen room had a sofa bed type trundle bed so had a seating and desk area. Free breakfast was above average with lots of options including self serve waffle station. They definitely honored my Bonvoy status with an upgrade and late check out which was very much appreciated. Very friendly staff and efficient check in. Like most hotels in the area there is a parking garage which costs $40 a night. Location is walkable to the beach and many restaurants and stores. There is also a bar and restaurant on the 2nd floor. This hotel is always nice and clean when I stay. The rooms are spacious. And smells fresh. The location is perfect. There's a gym and pool on the 5th floor. You're close to the beach and all the restaurants. Theres breakfast in the morning in the lobby. It's a pretty good breakfast at that. Yikes! I am really surprised because I came here 2 years ago for work meetings and things have changed LOTS. Apparently a new management/ownership team has come in and there were lots of misses. Stayed on a Tuesday night. I will highlight a few right now: 1. Toilet handle was broke in the middle of the night, apparently no one could help since maintenance left on a weekday around 10pm so no one was on site to help. The sound of water kept running most of the night keeping us from sleep. Front desk lady was nice and said she could come up to look at it or I could just try to hook the chain in the toilet myself. Since my kids were sleeping I opted to figure it out. The issue was the handle and not the chain--I tightened it myself but it kept coming loose each time we needed to use the bathroom---needed new handle. 2. Wake up call at 6:30am from PREVIOUS guest was still in effect. We all got woken up by the ring of the telephone. Especially after toilet running night that was rough. 3. Charged for what we didn't buy! Good thing I checked with front desk about the charges because they said we had gotten 2 waters and were charged. This never happened. 4. Apparently a pest infestation of something was going on, saw the exterminator on site while we were getting breakfast and they were talking about pests being around the juice station and food---maybe a bunch of gnats but it was not a good look (see picture) while I was getting breakfast at 8:30am. The two stars are for the location, and the room we got as it was overall a nice room as I remembered it. Spacious with a balcony that was not on the train side as I requested. What changed? I guess management/ownership. Last time we could rent bikes and surfboards, they even gave free beer when you checked in. The key cards had to be used to get to your hotel room floor---that is no longer in effect (or at least not when we were staying there). Very close to the beach although the view of the water shown in some of the photos is clearly from just a handful of rooms. All employees we encountered were friendly and we were on the west end of the hotel so didn't experience any of the train noise that has been reported. The room was spacious and clean. There's a microwave and refrigerator which was appreciated. The beach is in walking distance and there's free breakfast each morning. Parking is underground for a fee but we found it to be full on one of our nights. read more

Got a two queen with a trundle bed and there was a mini fridge, microwave, desk, and bathroom barn door seals for privacy. -location is great, one block from beach and plenty of restaurants or movie theatre - Free water dispensers in lobby and on floors. - lobby is really nice and spacious The not so great: - Parking is $40 and the parking spots are tight for a midsize SUV. TIP: There's an outdoor lot literally right next to the hotel, which you have to pass through to get to the hotel garage, that is $25/day, - We were there Friday-Sunday and there was a band playing outdoors each night until about 9:15pm. We have small kids so not ideal but we managed. There was a sound machine in the room so they probably got complaints about it before. - there are no ocean view rooms. The hotel in front blocks direct oceans view. - The elevators are sloooww. There's only two elevators, only one elevator goes to parking, and there's no freight elevator so staff use the regular ones. This leads to REGULAR backups where there's 2-3 groups waiting for the elevator at the lobby and room levels. A personal item was taken from my locked guest room on April 22 (~$150 value plus highly sentimental). I reported the missing item that evening and spent over 24 hours being given the runaround: three phone calls and a front desk visit with no urgency, no reassurance, and no resolution. I filed a police report and escalated to Marriott's Office of Consumer Affairs. The GM responded by implying I may have "misplaced" a belonging and framing the removal of the item as something I merely "believed" occurred. The item was not recovered. The situation was not handled with urgency or accountability at any level, property or corporate. If you are considering staying here, keep valuables with you. 196/2024 Upon checking in we were helped out by a nice gentleman at the register counter! This hotel by Marriott offers a short walk to the beach and Restaurants downtown. Grandkids enjoyed the roof top pool while others tried to build muscles at the very limited equipments at the fitness center and for me I just lounged by the pool admiring from the roof top view the ocean. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a balcony view of 2nd floor's open outdoor seating area with game activities. Convenient Parking area accessible from basement and to the hotel lobby by an elevator. A very delicious free breakfast served from 6 am - 9 am weekdays. We enjoyed an array buffet of crispy bacon, scrambled egg , fritata, waffles, cereals, hard boiled eggs, muffins, bagels, condiments, coffee , hot water for tea or cocoa.... and many more ... with the undivided attention that distracted me from taking breakfast photos was my adorable 2 year old granddaughter ! Our room was not ready on time. We tried to check in and the lady at the front desk said they would call when our room was ready - she did not. Eventually we showed up again after dinner and the room was ready... I get rooms can be late, but if you say you're going to call, you should call. We paid for an ocean view room, not on train side. We were staring down a long weekend with two kids we'd kept indoors since the wildfires and figured this was a good time to use a free Marriott night, a perk of our otherwise worthless Marriott Bonvoy credit cards. Those free stays are hard to redeem in most vacation destinations, but we were able to use one at the SpringHill Suites in Oceanside. We'd never been to Oceanside before, but it was a great place to visit for an overnight with our two young sons. We took the Amtrak down, and the hotel was just a short walk from the station--in fact, our free room overlooked the train tracks. There was an option to upgrade, but that was easy to decline. If anything, we might have paid extra for the train view, which provided easy entertainment for our little boys. (Thankfully, the trains didn't whistle as they passed, and none of us were disturbed by train sounds in the night.) We spent our whole trip within walking distance of the hotel, and between the pier and downtown, there was plenty to do for a day and a half, even in January. Our room wasn't ready when we checked in around noon, but we were able to leave our stuff, grab lunch, and hang out at the pier. We were able to use our room when we got back in the afternoon, and it proved a convenient home base for the rest of our time in town. The hotel was quite nice, clean and brand new, with a beachy SoCal aesthetic. We got a standard room, and it was comfortable and spacious, with two queen beds and a little living area: a couch and coffee table separated from the beds by a large desk that served as a partial wall. We requested a pack n' play, which was duly provided, and both of our kids slept straight through to a decent hour. Bathroom was neat and had a tub, not that we bothered with bath time. Our stay included breakfast in the lobby, and this was a welcome bonus. There was a solid standard hotel breakfast spread, with eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, and the like. The centerpiece, though, was the make-your-own waffle station, with readymade batter, waffle irons, and a whole lot of toppings. The irons were hot but pretty foolproof for an adult, with instructions and beeping timers. My kids went to town on some mini-waffles topped with sugary breakfast syrup. We didn't require much in the way of service or amenities, but the people at the front desk were very pleasant, and we got some use out of the tiny lobby shop, which sold snacks and drinks and medicine packets at a hotel mark-up. There was also a cute grocery and home goods store connected to the lobby. Amtrak was running a special for Angelenos after the fires, so we spent exactly $76 on travel for this lovely jaunt to Oceanside. We had a wonderful time and hope to come back. We have more Marriott free nights, and would be happy to redeem them at this SpringHill Suites. read more

This is a beautiful hotel in the heart of oceanside. Although this hotel doesn't offer room service, there is a restaurant just around the corner on the ground floor. They offer free hot breakfast in the lobby and ice cold water in the elevator bank on each floor. As someone who's disabled I was really impressed with the facilities at this hotel. I'm not in a wheelchair but I do have limited mobility. I know they have wheelchair accessible rooms with roll in showers, though I did not have one. I had a room with a step in shower (no tub) which was perfect for me. What I thought was really amazing was that the steps into and out of the pool and jacuzzi were not steep so I had no problem getting in and out of either. They also had a chairlift for both the pool and the jacuzzi. I see chairlifts at pools at hotels all the time but there isn't often one for the jacuzzi too. There is no attendant at the pool so to use one you would probably have to call someone to assist, but at least they have them. I was so impressed with how accessible the pool and jacuzzi were for people in wheelchairs and for people with limited mobility. I will definitely stay here again in the future. Cons: The outlets on one side of the bed didn't work. The shower didn't have any grab bars so it was scary for someone like me with limited mobility to get in and out. The location of the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash is horrible. You can't get anything from the bottle to your head without it being washed away by the shower water. I love going with Marriott chain hotels to keep maintaining my status plus the ease of checking in, requesting, checking out via the app now is a feature that is almost a must for me. I loved our room, had a balcony with table and chairs and partial ocean view. Air was breezy. Room was super clean and smelled so good. I didn't go down for the complimentary breakfast though but they offer it for elite members here as other Springhills. Hotel sits behind another hotel so there is an obstructed ocean view. Hotel/room is very neglected. Slow running drains. Furniture had nicks and scratches. Bathroom mirror had desilvering (rot). We checked in at 11 am, brought our luggage with clean clothes to the room then returned to the car for our beach day items. The hotel is conveniently located 2 blocks to the beach and Oceanside pier. After several hours of sun and fun, we returned to our hotel room to rest, swim in the rooftop pool and shower. It was the first time we came home clean from the beach and I will definitely book a day room through Resort Pass again. read more

I'm not surprised this place has a low rating. They seemed to forget they are in the hospitality business. Check-in is at 4pm and they could only check us in 15 min early although we called prior and asked for an early check-in on Sunday, an off night. For the 11am check-out, they locked us out of our room at 11:10am (literally) after we returned from moving our car to the front so we could transport our luggage easier. I used to think every SpringHill Suites was the same, but they're not. This was the nicest one I've ever stayed at, and as a Lifetime Platinum member of Marriott, I've been to my share. Their beachy location is perfect! They have a rooftop pool that was adequate in size, and they also let you take the pool towels to the beach! The gym was typically small, but it was well stocked and all of the equipment was functioning. The staff was friendly! Also memorable was the breakfast - it was above average for a continental, and the staff genuinely seemed to care that you were enjoying your meal. This was our first time staying here. I will start with the cons because there are very few. The king bed was ok. The pull out sleeper sofa was not comfortable at all to sleep on. I tried sleeping on the mattress, then the mattress with the couch cushions, then the couch itself, non gave me sleep. We had the accessible room for my parents and the shower was horrible. It was supposed to be to be a roll in shower, it was not. The bench is sturdy, but there is a weird slope that floods the bathroom. And the flat part is so tiny it is hard to keep your balance to shower. The shampoo and conditioner were very watery, the body wash smelled so good, but there was no lotion. And there is only one elevator that goes to the basement where you park. Meaning if you don't get the correct one, you will have to ride the one to the lobby get off and wait for the one that goes to the basement. Now the pros. From check in to check out, the staff was amazing. Some were quiet but very friendly and helpful. From getting extra towels when needed due to the shower flooding to giving me a little extra time to check out to help load my parents in the car. The room was cozy and entire hotel very clean. Love the security of needing a key to get to the garage and up to the rooms. The lobby is spacious and they have fresh cold water on each floor. A small market for the necessities you forgot, and fire pits inside and out. We were on the terrace level which gave the extra space on the patio. The rooms seemed sound, only heard the doors when slammed shut. In a great location to walk to many restaurants and the markets in Thursdays. Close to the beach which is my favorite. I just wish it had a beach view. I enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub. Both a nice size. The outside shower had great pressure and did get pretty hot which is great for the cold nights. We do want to stay again, we just hope they improve the shower for comfort and safety and the comfort of the beds. Since most of the guests for my buddy's wedding were staying at The Seabird hotel, my friends and I first planned to stay there for the weekend as well...until we saw the $400/night rate. So, we quickly pivoted to the next best thing - the Springhill Suites, whose location right across the street meant still being close by to all of the wedding festivities and whose rate was about half the cost! Can't go wrong with that and that's before even considering anything that the hotel has to offer! While I can't say how this particular Springhill Suites compares to others in the chain, I thought this one was fairly nice. The hotel itself is relatively new and it feels pretty large. In addition to the usual amenities you might expect, like a fitness center, a business center, and pantry/market for snacks, they also have a decent sized swimming pool and whirlpool on the roof, a board house for beach rentals, a banquet hall area, an open terrace/event space, and a daily complimentary breakfast buffet by the lobby (go early if you want a table, otherwise you can bring the food back to your room). Plus, the popular Hello Betty restaurant is attached to the hotel as well (more on that later), which is super convenient. As far as the rooms go, it was far more spacious than I had expected and covered all of the basics - iron, ironing board, TV, mini-fridge, coffee machine, in-room Wi-Fi, and a modest balcony with a couple of patio chairs. However, in contrast to the more contemporary look of the lobby and hallways, the room felt somewhat worn (and a little cheap). The iron and ironing board, for example, felt like they were on their last legs (literally couldn't get the board to collapse) and the closet felt a little dank (for the lack of a better word). Also, it was a little ominous to see a white noise machine and ear plugs on the bedside table, but nice that they have it for the benefit of guests. So, in that sense, it's nice that the money isn't entirely lost, but, obviously, it would be even better if the amenity fee just wasn't assessed in the first place. When it comes to hotels, it really doesn't take much to make me happy - give me a decent room rate with no bugs/pests and I don't have anything major to complain about. So, in that regard, our stay at Springhill Suites, albeit short, was perfectly fine, plus they're conveniently located just a couple of blocks from the Oceanside Pier and the staff was really friendly. If I were to stay in the heart of Oceanside again, I don't know for sure that I would be back, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out either. THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded up. read more

I recently stayed at this hotel for five days, though technically four, as my mother's flight was delayed, and she was unable to arrive until the following morning. The hotel's prime location, within walking distance of nearby shops, was a key factor in choosing it for my mother and friend. With other options closing as I made the booking, this hotel became my final choice due to the urgency, although the price--approximately $1,800 for four nights--was significantly higher than I anticipated. Being unfamiliar with Oceanside, I wasn't certain if this was standard pricing for a hotel near the ocean, but it felt excessive for what was offered. Our room was on the second floor, which wasn't ideal, and I was particularly dissatisfied with the elevators. They were noticeably slow, and given the rates charged by the hotel, I believe some investment in their improvement would be beneficial. It often felt quicker to use the stairs than wait for the elevator, which detracted from the overall convenience of the stay. Location is everything! My friends were staying at the Hyatt which was about $100 more a night so we opted for this. Yeah, it is not beachfront, but it is only a walk a way. The Springhill staff was consistently cheerful and helpful, and the rooms were excellent. . We have a 2-queen bedroom facing the train tracks. While there was occasional train noise, it didn't disrupt our sleep! The room is spacious with ref, microwave, and coffee maker! Linens, blankets and pillows are clean and well kept. The bed is firm and pull out sofa is well-maintained. We were provided with ear plugs in case of the noise... but we never used it. The room was well insulated. The staff are all nice and welcoming! We were able to check in early since our room was ready. Full breakfast is also served: waffles, eggs, sausage, fruits, oatmeal, coffee and juice + more! They also offer beach tools for rent, like bike, surf board, etc which was part of the resort fee, so take advantage of the rentals. They charge $35 for valet parking. I stayed here for a few days while visiting from out of town and regretted it. Check-in was smooth and that's about it. I had inquired about the military rate and they didn't adjust my nightly stay, which was disappointing and falsely advertised. I paid for an "ocean view" balcony room and they gave me room 210, where the view is completely blocked by a tree and mostly looks to the train and parking lot. Second, the plumbing was terrible and slow. I called them about it and asked for a different room and they denied my request. Thirdly, on my last day, I came to get a late breakfast around 9:45pm and they refused to refill the hot items like eggs and bacon. Everything was empty other than the cereal and milk. Elevators were also SLOW as molasses, I took the stairs most of the time. Pros: there's a small gym, a pool and jacuzzi. The most irritating ordeal was the $35 "destination" fee that gave you $35 food credit at Hello Betty. The food is not good and the meal I did have, they billed me for it on my checkout, so the credit is worthless. I'm a Marriott member and have been for many years. It's my preferred hotel to stay at anytime I travel, but this one, I will not come back. It's not worth the money, and most importantly the inconvenience of time and headaches. read more

In previous stays, this was a nice hotel. This stay was not good. I wondered why the pool and spa were so gross, then I saw a group of surfers cleaning off the boards and rinsing their wetsuits in the pool. The pool guy saw it and turned around and left. The place is one street over from the beach. It took us about 5 minutes to walk to the beach. The hotel has a parking garage but you have to pay $35 to park there (valet). The heater outside and the lights were not even working. We were not informed of this until we called to ask about them not being on. The manager that we spoke to was rude and hung up on my sister. Employees should be transparent and advice anyone planning on staying there if anything is not working or not available just like they have no problem charging the amount for each night. People are paying for what's offered and if a service isn't available they should provide a discount. read more

Perfect location. Walking distance to the pier. Restaurants available out the hotel. Not the perfect view, but it's close proximity to anything you need. Felt safe. You use your key in the midnight our to enter the lobby and 24/7 at the elevator. Breakfast food is ok. It's not as break as the others we've been too, but it's not bad either. Service is great! Great 4 nights stay: Great location and proximity to assortment of food. Two blocks away on Thursday is the street market with live music. Helpful staff. GM prepared pizza and chicken wings for guests when they had to shut off hot water. Good selection of complimentary hot breakfast. 2nd floor has live music on weekend which ends by 9pm. It is FAMILY friendly! There is Amtrak that goes behind the hotel and you'd hear the guard rail warning frequently. However, this is all part of the experience of being in SolCal! I do wish they would accept dogs, not just service dogs because there is NO WAY a Chihuahua is a service dog. read more

Hahahaha!! Oceanside is a new Santa Monica?? I came back here after 7 years and today... is a different Oceanside and different Springhill. Location can't be better but it doesn't have the nice front view anymore because of new construction now. But public parking is still good for $5. But Valet is the only option for the overnight guest. I think it's $45?? Surprised ! It took one star off Super nice staffs and better welcoming lobby 2023 compared to 2016. Hotel is in a great location right near the pier in Oceanside,Ca. Staff is friendly and attentive. Facility is clean. Only complaint is the excessive 42 dollar a day/night for valet parking. We got a 35$ credit to hello Betty which is right below the hotel. Great perk for staying there. Overall I would recommend this place. Location is all time for the area. Terrible customer service. Arrived and we were put in a handicap room. Room was dirty. Paid for an ocean view and our balcony did not even have any chairs or tables. Talked to receptionist and then he talked to manager. Manager would not even address our concerns! Said they were no more rooms available. Terrible customer service from top to bottom. As a young family with three little ones, our recent stay at this hotel was nothing short of a nightmare. The room we stayed in shared a direct wall with the hotel bar. - sooo weird. Through the screen door, we could see the bar guests, forcing us to keep the door and window closed and the curtains drawn. This was quite challenging with curious kids. The most bizarre part was the shower window facing the bar. I could see the bartender's outline while using the bathroom, and they could probably see our outlines while showering. I had to squeeze into the back of the shower to avoid anyone looking at me or my kids. We called the hotel reception as soon as we walked in and saw people drinking from our bedroom, requesting a different room. They informed us they were at full capacity and couldn't do anything but would reach out to their manager. We called twice more for updates and got the same response each time from different staff. Our kids were exhausted, so we gave up and started bath time around 8 PM. The kids slipped multiple times in the handicap shower because the railings were too high while dancing to the loud bar music blasting through the walls. Thankfully, the live band retired a little before 10 PM, allowing our kids to sleep quietly, though it was 9:45 PM, way past their bedtime. Thankfully the club/techno music didn't start till after our last kiddos went to zz. To top it off, my youngest spilled juice on the bed. We called over an hour ago requesting new sheets, and we're still waiting. I'm using my sweaters as their blankets while we wait. We usually stay at Seabird next door, but this was an impromptu weekend getaway. We thought it couldn't be too bad being next to Seabird, right? How wrong we were. I'll never compromise quality and comfort for a few bucks again, especially when traveling with kids. Do yourself a favor and stay at Seabird instead. Overall, a terrible night and a regrettable stay. read more

Location, Location, Location!! 2 min. walk to the beach. Easy access to the downtown area to grub something to eat. Right by the pier. Location is great. We stay this hotel once every year. Since the new hotel was built in front of this hotel, ocean view rooms are limited... That is very sad. However rooms are always clean. They remodeled lobby area and painted walls, feels new and relaxing. I love the way they did it for breakfast area. Hello Betty restaurant is in the same building. Easy to grub bite and have a drink there. Roof top pool is also nice. Pool is definitely heated (in May. ) It was still too cold for me to get in, but I enjoyed hot tub. There is a train station behind the hotel, you don't need a car to get around San Diego. You can make a day trip to downtown San Diego. Front desk, workers and room service they are all friendly and say Hi to us every time they sees us. I highly recommend this hotel to whom come to San Diego area to enjoy the beach. read more

I spent the recent holiday weekend at this SpringHill Suites as I was in town for the nearby SoCal Blues soccer tournament with my daughter and her team... I found the location of this hotel to be ideal. It was super convenient to the fields, the beach, and plenty of nearby restaurants and stores. I was pleasantly surprised with the continental breakfast offered each morning, the fitness room, pool and jacuzzi as well. A few things to know before you go: -Parking is limited. There are seven free spots on the hotel property, otherwise, you'll have to pay to self park or valet. -It can be a bit noisy at night both from the train or the people partying on the terrace. -Elevators are extremely slow at times. -You can rent beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, etc... but it's not cheap. $35 for two items per room per day. All things considered, I did find this hotel experience to be positive overall and would absolutely stay here again. read more

Yikes, what a horrible experience. Not only was parking $40 a night, but there was zero accommodation for being near people going to the same wedding as us and we were charged TWICE for our room. When I called to dispute the second charge I was rudely told some bullshit explanation and that a "manager would handle it". Would not recommend staying here or using it as a hub for your wedding. You're better off across the street at Seabird. read more
