For $150 a night I expected something with nicer furnishings, clean carpets, and spaces that looked like they were maintained well. The room didn't have any USB charge ports so if you don't have an adapter, you're out of luck. Employees were friendly but that doesn't matter much to me if I'm in a room with carpet that has a ton of, what I hope to be, grape juice stains.

It is located around many restaurants & across the street from a mall. There's ample parking. The front desk staff were nice. The hotels offers a small pool, small gym, atm, and refreshments/drinks during happy hour. Happy hour was packed & you'd think they were starving at the amount of them who showed up to the buffet. People were licking their fingers and touching food utensils. It was completely gross. I don't do buffets for this main reason. People are just nasty. Our room was ok except the bathroom door was chipping off. There were stains in the sink and bathtub. It definitely needs an update. There is a mini fridge and a microwave though. All in all, I would go back if I'm in the area.

The space feels safe, all exterior doors require a key. The entire hotel and rooms are clean. Some tips if you are considering a stay: The hotel is located within a few blocks of railroad tracks, which will become very apparent to you once you settle into your room. Tellingly, complementary ear plugs are provided bedside. Know that the odd-numbered rooms are quieter. The parking structure entrance is on Federal Place between West McGee Street and Exchange Place; it's hard to miss because of the signage that reads "Hampton Inn & Suites Entrance." The entrance to the hotel on the first floor of the parking structure is considered the main entrance and is usually unlocked during the day. The side, first-floor entrance on West McGee Street is often locked; you'll need your room key for access. If you park on the second or third levels of the garage, you'll be able to access rooms on those floors directly. Parking is $12 per day. A parking tag is required. Most guests seem to opt for the garage. Street parking immediately adjacent to the hotel is available for free without time restrictions. Weekends are the most competitive parking time. Look for the spots without signage detailing parking limitations. Hampton Inn & Suites Greensboro Downtown gets the job done. The decent gym, easy self-park options, on-site guest laundry room and central location make this a solid choice should you be passing through Gate City.

Parking is plentiful and included in the nightly rate. I was able to check in early, but wasn't asked which welcome gift I wanted or told where the lounge was located, or anything else about the hotel. I was just told to take the gold elevators. I had to go back to the front desk, as after going to the lounge, I couldn't figure out when the hors d'oeuvres were in the evening or the breakfast hours, as they were not posted on the door. The first person I asked didn't answer me, but the woman was very helpful. I never did find the pool or fitness center. I was given a room near the ice maker, but that is what I get for checking in early. My room door was rather finicky. It would turn green but seemed to get stuck when I tried to open it. The hotel is older, so this could just be a sign of age, or the latch may have been misaligned. The door to the lounge opened just fine, though. Tower II is triangular, so the room is more angled than a typical room. My room was a good size. I loved the large window in the room. The television was large, and the refrigerator was good-sized. There was a desk, chair, and a lounge chair and table near the window. I turned the chair around and enjoyed the view from the room, and watched the traffic. The room had a full bathroom plus another sink outside. Soap and lotion were provided in reusable containers and shampoo, conditioner and body wash were provided in the shower. I loved the rain showerhead. The scent of the bath products was a little overpowering. Even with the ice maker noise, I slept well here. I was exhausted, but the bed was very comfortable, and there were many pillows provided. There was even a flashlight for emergencies in the nightstand. The lounge had tables and chairs with some snack and beverage options. Alcohol could be purchased in the evening. The hors d'oeuvres were minimal. So I wasn't sure what breakfast would bring, but there were a lot of options from eggs to oatmeal to sausage to breads and cereal. Fresh fruit was offered, along with plenty of toppings for the hot items, too. Checkout was with the same guy as check-in, so it went just like check-in. It would have been a 5-star stay had the service been better. I expect more from a Sheraton.

Due to a flight delay, I missed my connecting flight and was rebooked for the following morning, causing me to miss my first night at the hotel. When I called, I learned I had already been charged for the first night and that my entire reservation had been canceled. I requested to be rebooked using the group rate, but the hotel denied my request, so I stayed elsewhere instead. Later, a front desk employee agreed to refund the first night since the missed stay was due to circumstances beyond my control and canceling the entire reservation made little sense. However, the refund was never processed. When I followed up, the hotel refused to honor it because I could not provide the employee's name. I would have understood being charged for the first night if I had been allowed to keep my reservation, but charging me and canceling the entire stay was unacceptable. Unfortunately, based on this experience and the poor customer service I received, I cannot recommend this hotel.

It is clean, smells good, and the rooms are spacious. They offer a decent complementary hot and continental breakfast as well as areas to do business, etc. All hotel staff was very professional and friendly. There was one issue that I had with this hotel. On Friday, October 28th, the fire alarm went off throughout the hotel. It lasted for probably around 30 minutes or so. There was no communication or any staff members on the floors instructing guests on what to do. We were all very confused and didn't know if this was a test alarm or if we needed to evacuate the building. There were never any instructions for us to evacuate our rooms. I decided to leave the room and go out of the building because the alarm kept going off and no one was saying anything. As I took the stairs from the fourth floor down to the first floor, there was a strong smell of what seemed like rubber burning. It was only when I got to the first floor that I went and asked one of the staff what was going on and she said that someone put something in the microwave that wasn't supposed to be in the microwave and triggered the fire alarm. At that time, two firemen entered the building to go and evaluate the situation. This was handled poorly. Guests should have received communication on the expectations regarding that fire alarm. Had this been a different situation with a real fire, this lack of communication could've had a detrimental effect on the guests. Other than that situation with the fire alarm, I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It is a really good hotel. I rated it as a three solely because of the issue with the fire alarm.

Their complimentary morning breakfast could definitely use some work on improvement (eggs were the ONLY hot item offered), my needing to repeatedly remind the front desk and housekeeping to replace my room with fresh towels daily due to my being a mobile massage therapist that was staying AND working inside of my own room and having their pool closed (due to repairs) didn't help better my weekend-long stay with them either, though. Would I return? Sure. Is it located in a prime area within Greensboro? Undeniably, which you'll see once you drive up to it, passing everything from major department stores to a multitude of restaurants, liquor store and other smaller eateries. Would I recommend others to stay there? Absolutely! My ONLY major issue with Homewood Suites by Hilton lies with not getting to swim at all while staying there for an entire weekend.
