Clean, roomy rooms right in the heart of downtown Memphis! There's even a trolley car stop that takes you to main tourist attractions in front of the hotel for the cost of only ONE DOLLAR! The staff from the front desk to the breakfast room staff to housekeeping were very friendly and accommodating. THE BEST FREE BREAKFAST I've ever seen! 3 meats, boiled and scrambled eggs, grits, oatmeal, fruit, bagels, biscuits and gravy, fruit, made to order waffles, 3 different kinds of juice, yogurt.....There are 2 connecting hotels( old and new part). If you're looking for a basic hotel, this is your place. Nothing fancy. Nothing luxurious. Good for big families because the rooms are big. The hotel had an older feel to it. I also wish it could've been cleaner. We found a dried blood stain on the sheets. Called the front desk and gave us sheets to change by ourselves. Service could've been better. The window gave a view of downtown; however, it was hard to see out of. Windows were very dirty and many cobwebs too. Very disappointed. The free breakfast was nice. I'm not sure why there are negative reviews about Springhill Suites. We stayed there for a girls weekend in November and had a blast! The rooms are spacious, clean and nicely appointed. They might be getting due for a makeover, decor wise, but it didn't detract from our stay. Staff was friendly, the hotel is nicely situated on Main steer, right on a trolley line and just blocks from Beale. The area felt very safe! Complimentary breakfast had lots of choices and was delicious. They even had little paper bags for people to take things to go for later. We stocked up on fruit and yogurts for snacks. Our rooms had a fridge and microwave so it was really a perfect setup. Highly recommend this choice of hotels to people traveling to Memphis. read more

First time staying at a Marriott. The hotel is ok, nice staff, decent rooms and the balcony was cool. It sits in the downtown area and you have access to restaurants in walking distance. The gym was nice, pool decent, hot tub could have been warmer. The complimentary breakfast is just bare minimum. The only downside of the area there are many homeless people around. It's an okay hotel, really a 2.5 for my tastes, but I'll round up in honor of National Random Acts of Kindness Week. I chose this option for its location, but in retrospect it is far better suited for business travellers than one-night pleasure vacationers such as myself. The surrounding area was completely desolate on a Sunday evening; all of the fun stuff is south and/or east, although some of it lies at the edge of walking distance. Furthermore, in the morning I found that the nearby Mud Island River Park was closed for the season, another disappointment. But as a hotel it was fine. The "suite" aspect was wasted on me, but there is a serviceable kitchenette--emphasis on the "ette." The hotel offers valet parking for $15 per night. Fifteen dollars is not necessarily a happy price, but it is actually the least among all the downtown Memphis hotels, and for some reason costs the same as self-parking. So you may as well use the valet. The complimentary breakfast cannot compare to Hampton Inn, but offers a fair variety and mediocre quality: scrambled eggs, sausage patties, ham; hard-boiled eggs; breads and pastries (still covered in plastic); whole apples, bananas, and oranges; whole strawberries and cubed cantaloupe; cold cuts; hot oatmeal; make-your-own waffles; coffee and tea; apple, orange, and cranberry juices; and ice water. My fiance and I took a road trip to Memphis for his birthday and we stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night. I chose this hotel because of the positive reviews it got on TripAdvisor and the reasonable price. Many of the "better" hotels downtown tend to get pricey. I just wanted to make sure to book something nice that was close to the famous Beale Street and wasn't going to break my bank. We drove up and checked in with ease. All the staff we came in contact with were really friendly and helpful. We were given the option to valet or self-park. We chose to use the valet because it's the same price as the self-park($15). Plus the parking garage is two blocks away from the hotel, so we decided to let them look for the parking spot for us. They put us on the 2nd floor in the Main building. Our room was facing Main St with view of the trolley station right outside our window and we loved the view! To be honest I was a bit worried about the trolley keeping us up at night being so close to our room and also from reading others reviews. But the sound of the trolley did not bother us at all! Maybe we are use to hearing a little background noise when we sleep or others may be more sensitive, but it didn't bother us. Plus the trolley does not run all night. The room was pretty nice. We had the King Suite. I loved how the bed was so comfortable because most hotel beds are anything but. The locations of this hotel was awesome! It is close to all the lively spots downtown. It was only about a 7 minute walk from Beale street and only about a 2- 5 minute walk to some restaurants and shops off of Main St. We didn't have to use our car for the entire stay! The hotel even had a decent fitness room which we used only one time. There is a stationary bike, treadmill , elliptical machine and free weights. They have breakfast that runs from from 6 to 10:30. We didn't get to try the breakfast so I cannot comment on that. We were too busy finding places to eat brunch on Main St( try Majestic Grille). Overall we had a really good experience at this hotel. We would stay here again if we visit Memphis in the future and I would recommend it to anyone planning to visit Memphis! read more

There are a few places open late at night so if you arrive late like we did you'll have to get something delivered. Suite was nice enough. Clean-ISH! Towels weren't as fluffy as most upscale hotels. Just in case that's something that floats your boat. Good enough to do the job and great location. There's a Walgreens less than 5 minutes walk away if you ever forget anything at home. Good hotel. Dirty rooms. Nothing in the rooms really looks or feels clean. When I checked into my room there was handprints on the desk and you could tell it had not been wiped down. There are stains on the floor and the rooms feel gross. From what I hear this is what you can expect from any of these older hotels here. Just has a really run down feeling in it. I would most likely not stay here again. We checked in and the guy was not very friendly and pretty short with us. It was a busy day but being a little friendly goes a long way. Our room was in the old Kress building on the 5th floor. I took the elevator up to the 5th floor and could not find our room. I called the front desk and asked him where it is. He said you take the elevator to the 3rd floor walk to the end of the hallway and then take a different elevator to 5. Taking two elevators to your room is ridiculous enough but why didn't he tell us that? There was no way to know to do that unless he told us and he didn't. We get in the room and it looks good. First thing I do is use the restroom and the toilet overflowed! Not just clogged but it overflowed onto the floor and I had to throw every towel in the room down there. I called the front desk and he said he would send up maintenance. I said I wanted to change rooms (I didn't consider that bathroom to be sanitary after the toilet overflowed!) and he said he would send new keys up. The maintenance guy brought up the new keys along with a plunger and he started plungering before we even left the room. The new room was bigger but had no view. That room worked out fine. The free breakfast was good. They definitely cater to Europeans with things like lunch meat and nutella. Parking is $15 a day for a lot across the street. Parking should be free. read more

I was a little underwhelmed. While the lobby was a nice way to greet us on the way in (I mean it was modern and very clean), my heart sank to see the tiny room. Don't get me wrong, I am sure that they have bigger rooms, its just they knew that 3-4 people would be sharing a room, you think they would have stopped us from ordering a one king size bed + pull out couch. My one positive was the view. It over looked the park next to it and was a great way to wake up. Breakfast was not great. I was underwhelmed by the options. They also failed to replenish the food so what was gone was gone. I might have to opt for a different hotel next time I am in Memphis. read more

We were in town this past weekend for the UFC in Memphis and chose to stay at this hotel. It was pretty much as good as it gets, location was perfect. Rooms were HUGE and super clean. Friendly staff. 2 full beds along with a pullout bed was just great. Free wireless internet along with a good breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay here again, its a huge suite with room for a large crowd. read more

My stay at the hotel was nice, and the staff was friendly and helpful while I was there. I can't speak for the food but I slept comfortably in my room. BUT after leaving the hotel, when I found I had been erroneously charged more than $650 for a room that was supposed to be charged to someone else, the front desk manager (Mr. Silva) was considerably less helpful. In my case it was problematic to have $650 disappear from my bank account unplanned - I was hit with overdraft fees as a result. In fact I felt Mr. Silva was quite rude to me over the phone and instead of taking responsibility for the mistake and making it right, made an already frustrating situation even worse. I have worked in customer service quite a bit and I know how important it is to listen to a customer with a complaint, and treat them with respect. Instead, Mr. Silva was argumentative, spoke over me many times when I attempted to outline the details of the situation, and overall left me feeling very upset. Before my conversation with Mr. Silva, I was merely anxious to receive a refund of the erroneous charges; after, I felt angry and stepped-on. Great job, sir. read more

The Springhill Suites Downtown deserves three stars for location. Everything was right outside our door and the Main Street Trolley stops right in front. There is also a Walgreens right across the street. The downside of this hotel: -Not clean, the trash cans had not been emptied, the mirrors had gross smudges on them, and our toilet did not flush -Our coffee machine was broken and coffee ended up everywhere in the kitchenette area -There were no local brochures in our room, which I expect in a tourist location -The pool had not been cleaned -The television offers many choices for chargeable shows, it takes time however, to find your free channels, it's very easy to accidentally select something with a price If you can get a good rate at this hotel I would recomment it, but don't expect any thrills. read more

Nice hotel. I have stayed at just about every Marriott and Hilton brand downtown and this is my favorite. Nice lobby and good location. Also has a bar in the lobby which many Springhill suites don't have. Only complaint is the room ac was only fair. More like a fan. May have been configured for heat since it was middle of Jan. and I like it cold, like 60 degrees cold. Springhill Suites are not fancy, but comfortable. The furnishings are modern and inexpensive to achieve the casual look they are seeking. I like it, but it may not appeal to some. They provide a complimentary breakfast and Internet. I did not try the breakfast. Honestly after 140 nights in a hotel I can't say I have enjoyed many free breakfasts and prefer to go out. read more

Not impressed what so ever. The lobby might have just gotten a makeover but the rooms looked tired, like something out of the fifties or sixties. Upon waking this morning we found that the room lacked bath towels. Very disappointing not to mention downright inconvenient. Oh, and the television controller, it didn't work. The location was good as was the staff. I just expected much more. Memphis is a wonderful city and everywhere you look you can see friendly people who love their city. They are painting the sides of buildings and even crosswalks. I would hope that Marriott would take similar pride in this city by updating their guest rooms. Who knows, they might even raise room rates and guests will continue to comeback and tell their friends what a beautiful hotel they stayed at as well as the great time they had in the wonderful city of Memphis. read more

It was clean, you get a decent breakfast and they have coffee available all the time, plus internet is free. They have 2 buildings, main building and a historic Kress building. The only thing about being in the Kress is you have to take an elevator up, cross over to the other building and take another elevator up. Annoying with a kiddo and luggage in tow. Location is good but not grat. It's a quick walk to anything, about 7 minutes to Beale st. Memphis at night (outside of Beale) is rather vacant and I didn't like walking with the family down quiet streets. So a location closer to Beale st. might be better next time as we wouldn't have to walk quiet streets at night downtown. read more

I generally do not stay in Springhill Suites but I am happy with this hotel. This location could easily be converted to a full service Marriott and has most of the amenities one would expect from a full service hotel. Lobby bar, small swimming pool and a streetcar station just steps from the door. My room on the 7th floor had furnishings that seemed new and a 40" HDTV was mounted on the wall in a way that it could be swiveled for viewing from both the living room and bed room. As other reviewers have said, the AC seems like a unit from a 1970's Motel 6. The neighborhood seemed ok to me, a few homeless people were hanging out on the street but it was no worse than other places in Memphis... read more

I'm really starting to love Marriott hotels. We're two for two for having great stays on this week long cross country trip. First off, the location is great! It is located in the middle of Main Street which the the main downtown street and the trolley route. Walking distance to Beale Street, museums such as the Rock-n-Soul museum and the Gibson Factory tour, and excellent restaurants. If you prefer to ride the trolley, you can. Valet and self parking are the same price ($12). Parking hasn't been an issue. We stayed at the Kress hotel, which is adjacent to the main hotel. It can get a little confusing because if you enter through the main entrance you have to take a couple of elevators and cross over to the the next building. However, they are great at offering alternative routes to getting to the Kress hotel. There's actually a direct entrance off Main Street. Complimentary breakfast which the whole family loved! Free Wi-Fi. Nice exercise room. Very very friendly staff and community. read more

The bad: one elevator broken our entire stay, the carpet in the room was filthy, couch looked gross and it did open but was so old and thin mattress no one could sleep on it, weird layout, room not made up until late in the day, parking lot two blocks away. About 10-12 minute walk to Beale St The shower was clean and hot with great water pressure. It's so terrible to end up with a luke warm shower with terrible water pressure. This was excellent. Free breakfast included all the basics of a continental breakfast as well as waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, turkey patties, fruit, cereal, etc. The breakfast was actually pretty good. The staff were all absolutely amazing. Everything was as the website explained it. No mess ups. My wife has a very mild case of OCD. Find a better hotel. Rooms are wore out and tired, something wrong with the plumbing (slow draining tub and toilet flushed 3 times when you engaged the handle but had no power behind it just making it clog and then risk flooding out. ) Elevators made a lot of less than reassuring noises and jostling that made me concerned of their safety. They are also impressively slow in their transit. To boot, truck got broken into as well as 2 others in their "secure vallet parking" in a nearby garage. After getting glass replaced and having to overnight it again... brought back to me AGAIN with fresh scratches on the truck! Got free parking for it but not worth it. Save yourself the trouble and pay for a better hotel. read more

We usually stay here or the Courtyard Marriott when we travel for business. We prefer this over the other because there are usually less problems when staying. Staff are friendly. Rooms are clean. We stayed 2 nights over the New Year weekend and had a great stay. I stay in Marriott properties frequently and this breakfast buffet was one of the best. Everyone was very friendly and the room was clean and quiet. The only con is the parking garage is a couple blocks away and you must pay for parking as there is no parking at all around the hotel. On the plus side is you walk out the door and can hop on the trolley or easily walk to Beale Street which we did frequently. Worth it to be near Beale Street. read more

I stayed at this hotel after reading all the excellent reviews. Unfortunantly, had a horrible experience. I will start off with the positives - the location is great. It is right next to a trolley stop and very close to Beale street and the mississippi river. It has free breakfast, a swimming pool and a very nice lounge area with a bar. The rest of the story is different. The hotel is split into two sections - a newly renovated section and something the staff calls the 'historic' section. I checked in with my husband and infant baby. I had heard about the trolley noise and asked for a nice room away from the noise. I got a room in the 'historic' building. I later found out 'historic' meant old, moldy, dirty and smelly. The room we walked in had no sun, the window was adjacent to another tall building. It smelled of smoke and as if it had been flooded. The bathroom was very dirty and I was afraid to put the baby anywhere on the bed or the couch. I called the lobby and requested a new room - they seemed a bit irked that I made this request... They provided me with another room in the same building. This room was right on top of the trolley stop and right across the elevator. We had nonstop noise in here - when the trolley wasnt moving, the big radio speaker right outside the room was playing. The lights outside from the businesses were very bright and not able to be blocked by the curtains. The window had so many spiderwebs and was disgusting (see picture). The bathroom was extremely tiny and the sink is located outside the bathroom. In fact, each time you opened the door, it touched the toilet - you literaly had to stand in the corner of the bathroom to open it and step in/out. I did not want to annoy the staff anymore, so I just stayed here. Bad idea - on the second day my baby got pink eye from the dirtiness. The staff is not very accomodating. They knew of the circumstances and did not help. Throughout my stay they ignored my presence. In fact, I called to see if they could order me a taxi. I came down 15 minutes later and found out they had still not called for a taxi. I then had to wait 15 additional minutes in the lobby for a taxi. I later called yellow taxi on my own for future rides and was able to get on a taxi within 10 minutes. I recommend staying at the residence inn right across this hotel. It is just as convenient for location, is much cleaner, and has much friendlier customer service. read more

I've gotta say that this SpringHill Suites was one of the most cozy and comfy hotels I've ever stayed in. I don't know if it was the sea of soft pillows, the soft linens, the whirring on the A/C, or how the shades completely blocked all sunlight; but I was happy. I slept 2 nights like a baby. It really felt like home. The rooms were big. We had a seperate room with a sofa-bed and it's own TV. Everything was clean and worked great. A huge reason to stay at this hotel: the convenience. It is right in the heart of downtown Memphis overlooking the Mississippi River and the bridge to Arkansas. It's only a few blocks away from Beale Street and all the surrounding jazz/blues bars. Beale Street can be a blassttttt if you're visiting. The ability to WALK to Beale street instead of driving is a terrific advantage. read more

The hotel has seen better days, but the location and staff make the stay. It will depend on your expectations and what you value. The rooms are not the most modern or kept up; there were horrible stains on the carpet of the first room we had. We requested a second room with two beds, and the same stains were evident on the carpet. We had a view of the park, which was nice, and the trolley runs right by the back door, making local transportation or just a fun ride to the Peabody or surrounds very easy. The gym is meager. There is one bike, one elliptical, and one treadmill plus free weights. On the plus side there are towels and water. On the minus side, the equipment faces a floor to ceiling window and directly across from it is a building with glass windows that reflect back the hot sun. There are no window coverings so it makes working out really challenging from both a glare and heat perspective. When I was there, the remote for the TV was missing and the staff didn't have a replacement. They said ordering one would require them to "program the TV again"--apparently above the skills of the staff. The pool and hot tub are very small, with a view of an alley. Breakfast is a plus. Big buffet with plenty of variety. Stay away from the scrambled eggs, which tasted powdered. Waffles, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, bagels, cereal, meats, biscuits, etc. A plus is coffee available 24 hours a day in the lobby. There is a small bar off the lobby with hefty prices for drinks. There is a small area off the front desk where you can purchase soft drinks (at twice the price of the coke machines on your floor), sundries, and snacks. Two computers are available free in the lobby. When I was there, neither of them would print to the printer but the staff let me use their office printer which was great. Free WiFi in rooms as well. The staff are really great. Super friendly, always greeting you. By the end of our week we felt like family, and that really makes up for a lot. There is a small fridge in the rooms along with a microwave, coffee, and safe so that's a plus if you need snacks, want to make a lunch or your early-bird partner brings up breakfast while you sleep in. You can walk to the Mississippi, riverboat rides, and Mud Island as well. You have to balance the condition of the hotel with the location and staff, then determine what's more important to you. Be aware that there is a $12/day charge for parking regardless of whether it's valet. read more

You just can't beat the location of this hotel! You can step outside and walk to the bank of the Mississippi River or head on down to Beale Street for a night out. The hotel itself was very nice as well. We stayed in the historic building, which was very charming. Loved the beds and the extra little sitting room by the door. The lobby is gorgeous, the staff is super friendly, and the included breakfast was better than most. If you're planning to visit Memphis, I highly recommend staying here! read more

I thought it might be just my room, but when I asked my co-worker if his room smelled as well, he told me he had already gotten the front desk to deliver a bottle of Febreeze. The SpringHIll suites is being renovated-but I slept at the Courtyard, two doors up, but was permitted to use the pool and enjoy the Buffet breakfast, where Felicia was amused (I hope) that I helped myself for post meal snacks. Jeanette Myers was in charge of an event promoting the Hotel for Bridal parties and she was gracious when I appeared, as I am always interested in these kinds of things. It turned out that the caterer who provides the food for all of the Marriott events, is absolutely first rate-the dessert prepared by the l8 year son of the owner was so rich and so decadent-that i am still longing for another taste. There are a few people who are also sales managers who need to relax when it comes to what they think about who might have significance but dont fit their rather old fashioned ideas about 'appearance' but this is a minor complaint-given the number of marginals who hang around outside, one would think they'd be able to discern the difference.
