All the restaurants were closed (as of 1pm, we later found out--due to a water/frozen pipes issue.) Town of Germantown ordered them to close-every restaurant--except for Waffle House!! Where we chose to get take out food & eat it back at our hotel room. If you are coming off I-40 and are just wanting a place to stay, you can purchase a microwave meal in the hotel lobby & eat it here. There are microwave ovens and mini-refrigerators in the hotel rooms. There is a limited amount of microwave food available in the lobby. The city was under a boil water notice due to a brutal winter ice & snowstorm. After an easy & quick check-in at the front desk, our clerk brought us up, two bottled waters to the room. Very friendly & efficient staff. Lobby provided hot coffee in the morning. They provided "Grab & Go" breakfast bags from 7am-9am on the weekends. Typically contained: a granola bar, a Pop Tart/ Pillsbury Bagel treat, a bottle of water, & fresh fruit, usually an apple or orange. All the basics in one convenient take away bag. COVID mitigation's fully in place. Including plenty of hand sanitizer stations. The room was spotless, pillows comfortable and the beds were great. Only slight negative was that the Heating/AC unit was a tad noisy. But it acted like white noise to me, so all in all, a pretty comfortable stay. Sure did the "trick" for my wife & I. Great front desk clerk, comfortable beds, good sized television, warm shower, great location, equal an easy five stars!

We had some items to pick up at Walmart, then got some food, and headed to a hotel. Oakland only has one hotel and we stayed at it in 2017 without problems. So I thought it would be good to stay at this time. I WAS SO WRONG!!! When you walk into the front door, the lobby door is cover in foil and you have to use a phone to call someone to come to the window. He told me he was upstairs and would be down in about 10 mins. I stated feeling off about it but honestly I was so tired I thought it was that and I didn't want to risk driving back into Memphis or anywhere. The man finally got there and I asked if he had a room for 3 people. He let me into the lobby, I made small talk with him about my trip and being so tired. The "lobby" was not even a guest area! It was so dim in there. After paying and getting a room card. He tells me to park on the side of the building and go through the side door. As I go to the side of the building there is three thug looking guys sitting right by the door with music playing and smoking/drinking. From the moment I got out of my car I could feel their eyes on me and my 16 year old daughter! One of the men were nice and even used his key to let us into the building twice. However, it also made me uncomfortable because his eyes were going up and down my body. As we walk into the hall it is SUPER dim almost dark like. Our room was 113 in the middle of the ground floor. It took a minute to get the door open and when we got in the room at first glance it smelled and looked clean for a $84 room. However, the closer you look the worse it got. There was a huge hole in the shower area (looks like there use to be a rod there) the ceiling had rust one all the metal, the shower curtain was from another hotel, the fridge smelled moldy, the phone in the room was a phone from room 114, and worst of all the doors inside lock didn't have a latch so I could secure the door from the inside. All of the events that happened from the time we checked in to that point make me feel so uncomfortable and I no long felt like me or my children were safe. When I say unsafe like I felt as if her and I were being eyed and that someone was going to tried to do something to us. (I wish I could really put into words the emotions from last night. It was one of the scariest and MOST uncomfortable experiences in my life.) I am a small woman and my daughter is not much bigger than me and there is not much my 12 year old son would have been able to be to protect us either because he to the small. So because of how I was feeling we loaded all our things back up as fast as we could and started walking out. There was a woman in the hall and I asked if I could use the door that said lobby to return our key, she said no you have to go to the side door and walk around. She was nice and even opened the door for us to walk out because our hands were full. I told her thank you and said we were rushing so fast because of a family emergency. Two of the guys were still outside and I didn't want them to say anything to us so I said that loud so they would hopefully leave us alone as we walked to the truck. They did but as we were loading our things (trust me super fast) my daughter and I had to lift one of the bags together because it is big and huge for just one of us. As we bent down the guys made it very clear that they were looking. She jumped into the truck super fast and I was right behind her. I had her drive to the front so I could return the key. Also I wanted them to be safe in the locked car and her be able to drive away if something bad happened (yes it really was that kind of situation I felt) I walked into the small area and pick up the phone to get the guy to the front but he was already there. He used my name when he opened the foil door, I told him we had family call and had an emergency. The first thing he says is we don't do refunds. Then as I handed him the room key he looks my body up and down twice in a sexual way which made me feel even more uncomfortable. I told him as sweet as and not freaking out as I could, "it's okay I understand" honestly I wanted my money back (we were there for a whole 10mins) but I also did not want to be in the situation any longer. So I just got in my car as fast as I could and took off to the closest place I had family at. There is so much human trafficking out in the world today and I honestly feel like that place is a place they get people from. Someone needs to do something about this place!!!! I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING AT THE OAKLAND INN in Oakland, TN

I immediately brought this to the attention of the front desk and was advised that no other rooms were available. The following morning, before leaving for work, I again reminded the front desk staff that my room needed to be properly cleaned. Due to the condition of the bathroom, I did not shower that morning as it was filthy and unsanitary. When I returned to the hotel after work, I was extremely disappointed to find hair in the shower that did not belong to me, indicating the room had still not been properly cleaned. Once again, I was told that there was no staff available and that the hotel was sold out. At this point, the situation had gone well beyond an inconvenience. A clean and sanitary room is a basic expectation, and unfortunately, that standard was not met at any point during my stay. I do have photos as well should you need them. Given these circumstances, I believe it is reasonable to request a full refund for my one-night stay. I hope this matter can be resolved promptly and professionally.

Ive been driving across country, so unfortunately my arrival was later than ideal (about 10:30PM). My navigation brought me to what was labeled as Homewood Suites on my phone, but the physical sign for the building was Poplar Inn. There is a "security buzzer" for guests to utilize after hours (10PM until 6AM). I buzzed the door and on the intercom a woman said "its open". Upon entering the lobby, I had asked the front desk if she knew where Homewood Suites was. She looked confused and unsure what I was asking. A few minutes of her typing on her keyboard (Im assuming she was trying to Google where Homewood was), I had asked if my name was in her system, since this was the specific address provided by HotelTonight. She found my name and looked as if she had a lightbulb moment. She hit me with an "oh yeah" then explained how the current conoany took over thr Homewood. I asked what time breakfast was, and she pointed to a closed sliding door and said they arent offering breakfast. Really disappointed with my check in process from waiting till the end of our conversation to explain the company change and the breakfast thing... I picked this hotel for the suite rooms and the breakfast so I can "grab and go" the next morning to head out of my next stretch of driving. I was provided my room keys and given a map to show where my room was. I was in room 318. Plenty of parking infront of my building and the hallways were inside (not exposed to the weather) which was really nice, and had a functioning elevator, also nice so I didnt have to lug my stuff up 3 flights of stairs. When I got to my room (now about 11PM) I saw the Homewood Suites bird logo thing above the room number, but it was spray painted over. Just a little irritating this was literally the Homewood Suites I had booked but the front desk pretended to not know what I was talking about. Anyways... I got into my room with some of my food. Wanted to "eat in" cause Ive had enough of eating on the road. I searched the drawers for the silverware in the kitchen along with plates and cups. The cabinets and drawers were bare. I opened the dishwasher and found an entire load of dishes. Maybe the housecleaning team ran the washer but didnt put them away? Fine, as long as they were clean! I pulled a cup out and it was visibly dirty. I tried to search the cabinets again and under the sink in hopes there was just a sponge so I can clean the dishes myself so I can cook dinner, and there was nothing. I was exhausted and decided to give up, and just get ready for bed. I put my stuff down in the bedroom (bedroom is separated from the living room with two doors). The bed was comfortable and pillows were so soft! Probably the only saving grace this entire experience because the bathroom was TERRIBLE! There was legit blood smeared on the door, the bathroom tub looked like there was mold. Bathroom was disgusting to say the least. I quickly went to bed because I had just been driving for 10 hours, and had an early morning the next day. When I woke up, I packed my stuff and headed to the front desk. This was now after 6AM, when the security buzzer should be disabled. Both doors were locked, my key card wouldnt work (there is a slot to use your room key to open the door - for hotel guests only), and nobody answered my buzzer (I hit the button maybe 4 times?). I wanted to speak with someone regarding the filthy status my room was given to me, but didnt have the opportunity. I would stay away from this property. Homewood Suites/Poplar Inn/Whatever its new name is, stay away. The rooms are disgusting and customer service is nonexistent. Im SOL because I booked through a 3rd Party

*6 month late post*…read more Overall an all right, down the middle 3-3.5 star experience. Typically I check in the day before on the app and generally get access to my room around 1 p.m. I was able to check in and select my room, however, it wasnt ready upon arrival. I had arrived at 2 p.m. and my digital key wasn't ready. The front desk checked and my pre selected room wasn't ready. I was offered another room but decided to wait. I left and returned just after 3pm. I ended up waiting in the Lobby until just after 4 p.m. before getting my room. I was in the room maybe 10 min and the Front Desk called to confirm if everything was satisfactory. It was. I noticed that most of the time there was no one at the front desk, they had run out of bottle waters that they gave out to guests, perhaps it was just me but the lobby coffee tasted off - not good at all. I resorted to the nearby Starbucks. The self serve breakfasts seems to be subpar even for a continental style menu. The Fitness area was not stocked with towels but a few times I was able to get towels from the front desk. They seemed to have an issue with being understaffed. That said, whenever I did interact with some one they were all cordial, friendly and helpful. At check in, the did manage to have the "treat bags" ready for Hilton Honors members, which was nice. Perhaps, things were better on the adjoining hotel's side, however, I didn't spend any time over there so I don't know. There is on-site laundry available in both hotels. The location seems pretty good. It's not far from the highway, shopping, grocery stores (e.g. Whole Foods, Kroger), restaurants and gas stations. The area was fairly quiet during my time there. The amount of parking seemed reasonable - only a few Diamond Member spaces on the side that I frequented. I believe there was also a parking garage, however, I didn't use it so I don't know if it is free to use. I guess it wasn't bad. Whether I'd stay here again would depend on why I was in the area
