Ok. Not sure where even to start with Oak Gardens. Multiple bad experiences…read more First experience: Bought two trees last summer and paid extra for delivery. We were told at the time of purchase that they would place the trees into the holes that my wife and I dug. They couldn't tell us what day or time the delivery would be, so we asked that they call us prior to leaving. All of a sudden, days after purchase, my son calls me while I'm at work saying that the trees were just delivered and dropped off in our front yard. One of the trees weighed around 600 pounds. We called them back asking for their assistance moving the trees, since they told us they would place them. They were very rude and said it was our problem now. Second experience: One of the two trees died a couple of months after planting. Went back and dealt with some woman who was unbelievable RUDE. Said "I just don't have time to deal with this" and called my wife "honey" in a very rude manner numerous times. Even though we found the receipt, Oak Gardens would not give us our money back, but only store credit. Like we would want to shop there again.. There are many other options that I would recommend way before spending a dime at this place. We seriously haven't been treated this rudely by a local business ever before. DON'T GO.

While the building has small plants, terrarium set ups, some pots -- both ordinary and unusual and other miscellaneous things, it's the actual garden that's a treat. It started with the sign on the left warning visitors that the resident cats sit in the window and can't be let out because they terrorize things - probably the koi and ducks that make themselves at home near the small pond -- or perhaps they tangle with the peacocks. While it was later in the season and probably fewer plants than they might have in the spring, what Garden Barn did have was nice, appeared to be well cared for, and enough variety that you can stock your garden or landscape with different things. It isn't a cheap place, so be prepared to spend some money for a full landscape. With that said, there were some nice lower and mid-priced things left in one of the greenhouses. And, at a really reduced price because it's at the end of the season, some plants that looked all but dead, might still have some life in them with some TLC if you really want to manage your budget. What I noticed were the amazing large hanging baskets that reached nearly from the hanging bar at the ceiling down to the top of the tables. Absolutely beautiful.

From there D&D built this shop, including the greenhouse, and opened this more permanent stand. Local vegetables, meats, jars of relishes, pickled oddities (!), some salads, jams and jellies are all ready for the choosing. As expected, the vegetable inventory changes, and right now tomatoes, potatoes, onions are plentiful. Also sold here are locally raised meats (chicken, pork, duck, beef, lamb) including sausages and brats. I also noticed bison meat and duck. They were sold out of eggs - both the free-range chicken and duck eggs, though, so that must be a call-ahead-to-be-sure item. There was enough in this store to make a meal, between the proteins, the vegetables and available breads and cookies. It's a perfect spot for picking up things for a camping trip, or a day trip, to Yellowstone, or to stock up and savor later. D&D has two small greenhouses at this location with potted flowers and plants, patio planters and hanging baskets. The person working that day was very helpful when I was looking for a plant for a low light location. She spent a lot of time explaining things and even noted what I was looking at was on a two-for-one special that weekend. There's also an on-line store, but like the market itself, may only be open seasonally. Stop in, support the local community, and know what you're getting is locally grown or produced. Anything left over is donated to the local food pantries, a nice touch.
