The mall is currently under reconstruction so right now there isn't much to see or do. There are a few open stores or you can hit up the DSW or Bed, Bath and Beyond across the street. It has a Macy's so I do stop by maybe 2-3 times/year. It is fairly conveniently located off the highway and the Franconia-Springfield metro. And it offers plenty of free parking. I'm looking forward to see what good things will appear once the reconstruction is complete. read more

To be clear there are pros and cons about this mall. Pros: Nice, clean and convenient. All of the people here are very kind and the mall is well maintained. Cons: There's one security guard that doesn't seem to care about his job or the safety of children. The indoor playground is NOT supervised. And it seems that people don't read the rules which are posted by the entrance. I'm not sure they clean it either, if they do they don't do a good job. I came with my son once when the mall first opened and it looked like they hadn't vacuumed or wiped down the "fruit". The playground used to be well maintained and now it's horrible. read more

This review is just for the concierge desk. You know, the mall is still pretty empty. It shouldn't be THAT hard to learn what stores you do and and do not have. I went in yesterday looking for a specific jewelry repair shop but I couldn't remember the name. I couldn't find it and stopped at the concierge desk to ask if they had a store directory for me to see if I could find it that way, and neither of the two men working the desk had any idea what I was talking about. I don't expect them to be able to read my mind and know the name of the business that I'd forgotten, but they insisted the only jewelry repair shop in the mall was Jewel Box, which is not true. The one i was looking for - One Hour- is located right next to Target on the lower level. That said they were very nice, but they really should know the layout of the mall better- especially now when it's still so empty. read more

I miss the days when there were stores in this mall. Another Universe, Chameleon Lounge, Verizon Fios Lounge, A&W, Bennigans, Wet Seal, Anime FX, Up Against the Wall, Wilson's Leather, a second food court, and more than 5 places to eat in the big food court. This place used to be booming I know the economy is bad but this was really all preventable had the owners of this place took time out of their day to take initiative in keeping stores in the mall open and putting new ones in where old ones left like they used to. I'm so sad because like many other people I grew up going to this mall when it was crowded and had neat stores to go to and plenty of restaurants. It's a disgrace now and smells like urine. I call it the Post Apocalyptic Mall now because it looks like it survived through an apocalypse with it's lack of life inside and gloomy interior. The only good thing about this mall now is the ample parking, and the fact that you never have to wait in line for ANYTHING unless you are going to Sarku Japan. If they can keep a place like Tysons Corner Center open and Tysons Galleria open with their stores being relatively expensive (especially Galleria) then they could have easily kept Springfield Mall open. Granted they are different owners but they could have worked something out. read more

I will be interested to see how the next phases of this project affect the area especially in terms of movable traffic. The space is beautiful and a definite improvement from the former mall. Traffic on Fridays and the weekend have increased by leaps and bounds which can be hectic just getting around this particular area of Springfield. read more

Nice mall, that looks pretty new. All the standard stores you would expect and some nice restaurant.

This may not be the biggest mall, but it has a good amount of options in terms of food, clothes, and other goods. It is known as a town center and has a comfortable atmosphere. Two of the best things the mall has to offer is the movie theater and Dave and Busters. The movie theater offers all the big hits and you can enjoy them in recliner chairs. There are not many Dave and Busters, so they are a gem wherever they can be found. All of the stores are laid out in an organized manner, so it is easy to move your way throughout the mall. The place is kept very clean with a nice modern look. Overall, this is a good mall with a number of stores to purchase things and have a good time. read more

I really enjoy this mall. For starters the children's play area is nice and fairly spacious. They also have security at the entrance-the nice security officer caught my 2 year old as she was trying to escape. He promptly turned her back around. He was also there to make sure the play area rules were being followed:no shoes and no kids over a certain height. The mall itself isn't terribly large but I like the selection of stores and dining they do have. Minus one star due to the lack of seating around the mall and for bathroom cleanliness-both of which could be improved. read more

Typical mall. For the most part, it is pretty clean. Some of the seating areas are fabric that that is stained from spilled drinks. That is kind of disgusting. the seating areas in the mall, some have plugs and some don't. Food court could be better, lots of seating. There are electric outlets at the 2 high tables. Wow...where to begin? Springfield Mall was the largest mall in Northern Virginia, but that was before it began its slow and steady decline. It's not yet as bad as Landmark Mall, just up the Shirley Highway in Alexandria, but's it's getting there. Macy's is still very good (JC Penney is good, as well), and the Target that replaced the now-defunct Montgomery Ward is okay, but the rest of the mall is hurtin'. The movie theater has closed, and the food court has seen better days. The mall was going to be redeveloped before the real estate bubble popped. Maybe this will still happen, someday. read more

The only things that kept this mall alive was the Target, Forever21, Victoria's Secret and Macys. Now that the Forever21 is gone, there is NOWHERE to turn when I need a quick inexpensive last minute outfit! If anything, a rinky dink mall like Springfield Mall would KEEP a low-end-cute clothing store in it's empty dead space. Now I see absolutely no reason to head inside the mall, just hit the Target and the Macys and keep trucking! NO FOREVER 21, really, it nearly broke my heart. I don't know which one is worst Landmark Mall or Springfield Mall? Well, I witnessed a robbery in Springfield's Vickie's Secret, therefore, do not feel comfortable there anyways so I guess they are tied. After a two-year much needed renovation, Springfield Mall reopened as Springfield Town Center on 10/17/14. The Mall was THE place to go in the 1980s and early 1990s but began a pretty steep decline in terms of shabbiness and attracting unsavory elements (some people were knifed several years ago in the parking lot - probably gang-related). I've lived in Northern VA for over 30 years so have witnessed all the changes at the Mall. The anchor stores, Macy's, JCPenney, and Target, stayed open during the renovation, but you could only access them from the outside. Most of the smaller stores relocated to the many strip malls in the Springfield area. I toured the Town Center on 10/19/14 and was a little disappointed. Even though it has all new flooring, skylights, and very nice lighting and chandeliers, it is still basically the same old mall. A few of the stores open to the outside, so there is some glass and steel to break up the monotony of the concrete, but the vast majority of the stores are inside. Many new, more upscale stores occupy the spaces, but they are much smaller than before. It appears that the stores that moved are staying in their strip mall locations. The Food Court is really nice and modern looking, but only a couple of eating places were open. Funny, there were long lines at these places and the Starbucks. People could have gone across the street for much better food and a Starbucks without a line! Sit-down restaurants are still lacking. There's a Maggiano's, but the prices there are outrageous. I'd rather go to a local mom-and-pop Italian place. They got rid of the carousel (very 1980s!), and there's no longer a DMV. I found the DMV in Springfield Mall to be very convenient, and there was a cart that sold fancy coffee drinks and pastries outside so you could enjoy a snack while waiting in line. I guess the floorspace price in the newly renovated Town Center was way out of the State of Virginia's price range. Thank goodness there's a movie theater again (a Regal 12) - the previous one closed a couple of years before the rest of the Mall. I hated having to go to Kingstowne for movies so just didn't go. As others have noted, there were crowds of people, but no one seemed to be buying anything, based on the absence of shopping bags. With the smaller size of the stores, they didn't have a lot of selection, and nothing jumped out at me even at Clarks. Interesting that there are a 2-story H&M AND a 2-story Forever 21, plus a small Charlotte Russe. Seems overly redundant in the cheap clothing department. We'll have to see if all survive. I did spot a sweater that I liked at H&M, but the quality was so poor that I passed. I'll stick to buying clothing at Macy's and JCPenney, which weren't even part of the renovation. Maybe things will get better when more of the storefronts, restaurants, and Food Court options open - a lot of spaces are drywalled over with "Coming Soon" signs. I hope so. Right now, the Town Center is just A-OK. read more

Decided to come to this mall for a quieter experience. It was a nice mall with a variety of department stores. The mall wasn't too busy for a Saturday and we found parking as we pulled in. Also, the mall is very clean. We did some window shopping and please to find some of our favorite stores - H&M, Claire's, Journeys, Macy's, Target, Children's Place, to name a few. Wish the food court had more variety in restaurants. I also liked that there was a Yard House (another favorite). We will be coming back for the quieter experience. Compared to the Tyson Center, we preferred this place because it's less stressful. read more

I live near by and only come here to go to Target or the DMV. I have heard all the ghetto stories that have come out of this mall but thankfully, i have never witnessed anything or become a victim! I try not to go alone because I definitely feel unsafe here. Other than that, the selection of stores are OK. Too bad more than half the mall is shut down! Target seems like a safe place though and it isn't ghetto like the rest of the mall, which is awesome because I love Target! The food court is pretty crappy too. Too bad though; if it weren't for the hood rat infestation, with good renovation this place could have great potential. read more

This mall or town center or mall/town center hybrid is still a work in progress. There are still store spots waiting for new tenants. The food court is getting close to being completed with new restaurants as also the front of the mall . However, all the new renovations have provided a much needed refresh to keep it competitive vs other malls like Fair Oaks and Tysons Corner. This center is occupied by 2 major department stores (Macy's and JCpenney) and then a Target. Yes the Target may be strange, but remember back in the days that location use to be Montgomery Ward (for those history trivia lovers out there), so there were originally 3 real department stores. Parking is abundant, but it seems many folks still stay away from the parking garages currently. The department stores Macy's and JCpenney haven't gotten renovated, so if you enter the mall through those stores, you probably would get the wrong impression in terms of the improvements. Big changes done with this town center vs the old mall: -1 new larger theater vs the 2 smaller theaters -1 smaller food court vs 2 food courts (but the food options have been improved with many great mall front restaurants such as Maggiano's, Chuy's, Yard House, and more... -the Sports Authority is gone to make way for the new grand entrance, but there is now a Dick's -there is a free kids play area (like all malls) vs arcade (remember Time-Out anybody?); but a Dave and Buster just opened! Hope to provide a future follow up review once the mall gets full tenant occupancy. read more

We just moved tot he area and haven't found many indoor shopping centers. This one was perfect to walk around and get some Christmas shopping done. The mall is very clean and the bathroom by the food court has a nursing room and designated baby changing area. It was very convenient that the Target and Dick's Sporting Goods we're accessible from within the mall as well. We'll definitely be visiting this mall again! read more

See that pic? Yup, this mall is FULL of dry-wall covering the empty facades of had-been stores. Still, I gotta give this mall a little love after reading those horror stories other Yelpers have reported upon. I guess I have been to a lot of malls in my life because honestly, this is not the worst. It does verge on the early 90's side, but I am a female in my mid-20's and I don't feel my life is threatened here. If I want to have that feeling, I would go back to Orlando and walk around the West Oaks Mall in Ocoee...you OCers, you know what I'm sayin... The Target here is pretty nice (two floors!) and is even being expanded now to include grocery items, plus I found great deals at the New York & Co here. Yes, it is pretty sparse in choices, but that also ushers in a less hectic feeling in general. read more

It was nice and new. The layout is a bit funky and hopefully will be even better once they get more shops. They could use an old navy or something. My son enjoyed the toddler play area. There are strict rules for the area so please know even if you decide to drink some water you might get a warning by a circling security guard. Follow the rules I guess! read more

I never saw the old mall but I really like the new one. Haven't felt unsafe in the parking lot like some people; I usually park on the Nordstrom Rack/Men's Warehouse side of Target. Writing this review to complain about the kids play area. Seems like all the security guard cares about is if the adults have also taken off their shoes. And with all that concern over shoes, you'd think it would be clean in there but it isn't at all. It's getting gross actually. A vacuum with a crevice tool would really help this place out. Makes me question if they even ever take a Clorox wipe to the surfaces of the play structures. When it feels like the surface of the sun outside, it's nice to have somewhere cool indoors to play, but be aware it's probably at the risk of norovirus and pulling someone else's hair off your kid's socks. read more

I visited the town center 5x already. The huge construction team who worked long and hard the past few years did a great job in renovating the mall. The ones who gave the town center low reviews have to keep in mind that this is just phase 1 of renovations. There is still more development to come which is supposed to include a hotel, apartments, offices, and more retail. A lot of the stores were still awaiting their openings which include Nando's, Chipotle, Hard Times Cafe, and Dave & Buster's. As far as I know there isn't a closer D&B's in the area. Right now the majority of the town center is leased with leasings expected to increase in the coming months so we have yet to see what is in store. I feel people are judging too quickly. Give the hard working construction team a break! they've been working hard nonstop for years! I do love the indoor town center because who wants to shop outside in the DC snow and rain? The new regal theater is distinct in that it offers more luxury seating (overall better) than the theatre in kingstowne. I do feel they rushed the grand opening a bit since there were only 2 eateries in the food court officially open on the first day but others are coming soon so there is more to wait and see. People, it's the grand opening of a mall and of course traffic will be heavy. I mean there hasn't been this much excitement in the surrounding areas for a long time. I wouldn't make any quick judgements yet. Remember that the town center's surrounding areas (well in reality ALL of NoVa!) have very mixed demographics not just "immigrants" as 2 posters just stereotyped. Kingtowne, Alexandria, Annandale, Franconia, Lorton, Arlington are minutes away. I am a true shopaholic and every mall that I have visited in NoVa, MD, and DC has been diverse. Since there are more new stores opening there will definitely be more people from different areas coming to visit. read more

Visited the Springfield Town Center for the first and last time today. Two important points to make -- 1.Only the first phase has been completed and... 2. Many of the anticipated shops have not opened as of yet. For now, only the mall has been completed and walking into it was definitely a sense of deja vu. Been there, done that, and remember it. The layout is largely the same -- two levels, with cutouts in some parts of the upper floor so you can see shoppers below. The mall definitely looks cleaner and more modern, but beyond that it isn't very different than what it once was. As for the shops? It's the usual suspects -- one chain store after another. Frederick's of Hollywood is gone and replaced in a different location by Victoria's Secret. Big surprise there, right? Forever 21 is in place, as is a Champs, Chico's, Chocolate, White House/Black Market, Michael Kors, and other shops that you would expect to see at any mall across America. In fact, I am hard pressed to to understand why the mall was even maintained given that malls across the country are suffering and we still have Fair Oaks, Tysons, and Potomac Mills not too far away. If Springfield truly needed a mall, this is as good as any. But, original, creative, or interesting it is not. A shopper can visit any mall in the area and pretty much find the same shops. Visit Fair Oaks during a weekday afternoon and the mall is completely empty, except for the Apple Store, which hosts shoppers and clients at the genius bar throughout the day. There is a food court as well and once again what one would expect -- Panda Express, Sarku, a Japanese fast food place, Chipotle, and a Pholicious (presumably Vietnamese Pho) will be in place among others. Given the proliferation of gourmet food trucks in the District and in cities across the country it is surprising that there doesn't appear to be very much in the way of creativity opening at the good court. In the center of the mall, on the first level, there is also a Starbucks -- again no surprise. Ironically, an Auntie Anne's is open again -- in the exact same location on the second level, I believe. How funny is that? Maggiano's and Chuys, two upscale chain restaurants are among the places that are opening or have opened. A Yard House is also scheduled to open soon at the town center - another chain restaurant. Perhaps, most fascinating of all is that a new Regal Theatre complex has opened. It will be interesting to see how this draws patrons from the Regal Cinemas at Kingstown Town Center, only a few miles away. While the mall is only the first phase of this large project it reminds me of a tired, old Hollywood movie. If you're content to see remake after remake of Batman and Superman, sequel after sequel of the Avengers, Transformers, or Ironman, then this first phase element will suit you. But, if you're looking for something that differentiates the mall from any other location across the country and you are hoping for something a bit more creative, you'll have to go somewhere else. In the end, will the new mall change anything for Springfield? Not in its present form. The surrounding neighborhood remains the same and the troubles that plagued the old mall haven't likely disappeared. One former shop owner in Springfield (not in the old mall) who relocated his business recently explained to me that he moved because there was too much gang activity and riff raft in the area. For my part, I hope the next phase offers greater promise than what I've seen on my initial visit, but I don't see myself parking my car and walking a long way into the mall, just to pick up something quickly. The mall element of the town center will be for those who are looking for a shopping experience with the standard chain stores, but it's questionable as to how many are interested in that kind of effort these days. read more

In Memorium. Also not a review. There was once an incredible utopia that was greater than Tysons and Reston town Center combined while I was growing up in the late 80s. Someone's parent would drop you off at the food court entrance 'Spring Fest' under the guise that you would be gorging down Bourbon chicken for the next five hours while they went to shop at the likes of Montgomery Ward, JC Penny or Linens & Things. The moment they left, you would either run up the nonworking escalators to the theater to catch a rated R movie (saw the original Total Recall there). Or you would pretty much run the entire distance of the mall and head to the arcade sanctuary known as TimeOut. After burning through about 50 quarters and three hours of your time well spent you would walk over to the comic book store right around the corner. At that point you actually are hungry so you go to this little pizza joint right there get a nice greasy slice for $0.75, grab an Orange Julius and call it a day. You always would remember to keep that last quarter to use it for the payphones because cell phones "gasp" didn't even exist yet, so 25 cents and the threat of getting gonorrhea of the ear from that nasty public payphone and someone was on the way to pick me up. Day well spent. Mind you, I was like 10, so that's about as much fun as you will have living in the suburbs. I never once encountered pedophiles or a hit squad out to steal my quarters, but this mall eventually went to shit... very quickly. I blame the Springfield Metro stop for this and complete lack of any law enforcement. RIP old mall! Now I'm off to do some holiday shopping at the boring labyrinth that is Fair Oaks.... A very low tier of a mall in this area there's nothing here for me to shop at Topshop went out of business J crew is also gone so not much for me here. They need to put brands that are staples like an Aldos or a Zara even a MAC store Also there's abercrombie kids but no regular Abercrombie...and if there's anything I hate is seeing all those Target shopping carts littered in this mall and parking space. In the summer parents drop their kids off with no supervision. They congregate around the theater with no intention of seeing a movie. Its incredibly unappealing with no good restaurants, shopping or entertainment. It is apparently a great place to drop your kids so they can babysit each other. read more

The only redeeming factors of this mall is the Target and the DMV, and you are still not garanteed a pleasant experience at either. The DMV is not as bad as the DMV in manassas, but it's still not particularly pleasant. Expect the employees to be rude, and say "DO U MINDS" when they called you to the window. teenagers in groups of three or more are not allowed in the mall because of the afformentioned gang problems (although, i am not sure if this applies to loitering outside of the mall at the entrances). the movie theater(s) are horrible, and, well, I'm not sure if it's still there or not, but it may have one of the few remaining cinnabons in the NoVA area, but is going there really worth getting shanked? eh... read more

They seem to be losing a lot of stores (JCrew, Michael Kors) recently and the remaining ones are a little underwhelming, common to most malls. A little worried about the future here after a nice start post-remodel. read more

Plenty of comfortable chairs and benches throughout the mall which is great. Big parking lot which is free (unlike pentagon city mall). Tysons corner mall is probably the nicest in the D.C. Metro area, but I usually go to pentagon city since that is in my neighborhood. read more

I've lived in Springfield for close to 14 years. I remember the "mall" when it was dull & drab and then they announced they were going to renovate. Oh yay! I even had the mom's club group I belonged to to help petition the owners to add a children's play area when they finished the renovation (yes, I'm taking credit, thank you). Friday was the grand opening. I took my (now 11 year old) daughter to see the new transformation. She LOVES the place! We even did a mall-crawl for her birthday with some friends this past Saturday. I have never seen the mall this packed with people. The 4 and not 5 stars are there for several reasons, but I know growing pains exist, and I'm down with that. First, they need to add crosswalks between the far parking areas that are separated from the main ones on Loisdale Road. There were people jogging across traffic and there were no crosswalks designated. Second-they better add to the food court and do it with some vendors who are "standard" fare; They need to fill in the food court with more seating. There is a LOT of wasted space. Speaking of food court, the 2 days I was there, I saw no employees clearing off tables, sweeping, cleaning of any sort. That's gotta change. Finally the seating throughout the mall (whether planned this way or not) has got to improve. There was one area that had 4 chairs and like 60 yards of space around it with nothing. OK let's add some more seating!! Aside, I love the new look. It still has the same basic layout of the old mall, but updated fixtures (oh-and I noticed the lack of any fountains around anywhere) and nicer looking storefronts..in general I'm pleased. Don't overprice yourself out of the basic mall budget-meaning don't put in a 100 upscale stores and then have Target as your only budget shopping destination. But fix the few little things, and you'll be great, Town Center!!!! read more
