The Spring Valley YMCA has been a saving grace for me and my husband since we moved to the area. I am always impressed by the size, features, and amount of the equipment that this facility offers. The most important part of the Y that I utilize most often is the childcare. I have not had to purchase a punch card like another review states, but I have been a member of the Y for less than a year, so they may have since changed their policy. The director and her staff are always friendly, and I can exercise peacefully knowing that my son is well taken care of. It can get crowded during peak times (of course), but my son is an only child so it is great that he gets to interact with other kids. They also separate the children by age, so I don't have to worry about him playing with toys with parts that or too small or being shoved around (for lack of a better word) by the older kids. Since it is a newer facility, the equipment is more modern than some of the other branches of the Freedom Valley YMCA. The staff is always friendly and always willing to answer any questions that my husband and I may have. I love how family oriented that the facility is, and love that I can do parent/child classes with my son that are fairly priced (this is in addition to our membership). He began swimming lessons at 6 months old here! They also have great programs that offer a lot of volunteer opportunities to the community. Although the membership is a bit pricey there are so many programs, classes, and other opportunities that the YMCA offers that I don't see why other members would not make the best of everything that the Spring Valley Y has to offer. Overall a nice facility; a bit overcrowded sometimes but plenty of equipment and much to do. Two things, though, that my family members and I have taken issue with is the childcare facility and the staff. Childcare is sometimes crowded to the point it's a safety risk and most staff members just sit around; they don't interact or monitor with the children much. Also, a lot of the staff members are not very friendly; they'll say hi to you one day but the next day pass right by you, as if you're a stranger. read more

Springford YMCA is so awesome. Like the other reviewer said, the pool alone would make it worth it. But the gyms, classes, running track, childwatch, fitness center, etc just make it great. No wonder the parking lot is jammed :) read more

This is a great facility. Wonderful gym equipment, friendly and very helpful staff BUT something is missing; the spiritual dimension of life and exercise. I visit every year from the UK and greatly valued the prayer request box situated in the foyer of the Y. I have had many prayers answered by those who seek to help by prayer fellowship. The Y has a Christian foundation and this is what makes it strong. PLEASE Heather restore the prayer box. It is for ALL so that through blessings and hardship we can all support each other. Really nice facility complete with your own dictatorship! My husband and I often fear that our $95 monthly fee only covers the cost of the paper and ink that they print their ridiculous rules on. They are plastered all over the place. I honestly never knew that having an enjoyable day at the pool could possibly have SO MANY RULES. My husband has been to this facility a total of 3 times in the 3 months that we've had the membership and has been nagged by the staff every time. Splash pad seems like it would be a laid back experience right? Wrong. Especially if your kid dares to violate the rules such as "no standing under the buckets" and "no sitting or standing on the jets". What kid DOESN'T do that?! Interested in taking your kid to slash in the pool? That's cool, so long as you enjoy a nice swimming experience with your 2 year old in a life vest- like you had them on a boat in the middle of a lake instead of 6 inches of water... (especially if you have a kid who clings to you like a freaking gibbon.) Now don't get me wrong. Rules have their place in society and in an environment where there are loads of possibilities to get hurt. The thing about the Y that just really chaps my ass is that there is ZERO consistency from staff member to staff member about what rules they are going to enforce at any given time. (Especially in child watch, but that's like a WHOLE different review/rant entirely). We are new to the area and joined the Y first thing. After 3 months of talking to our neighbors, we have discovered that our experience is not unique. ALL of them have been members at one point or another in the past 10 years and ALL of them non longer are... Oh, and when you decided that you no longer want to be a member, they require that you pay one month past when you cancel. read more

My child attends the daycare program at the YMCA located at the Grace Luthern Church in Royersford. This is the WORST daycare on the planet. The teachers suck they don't actually teach your child anything they just run around with no real purpose. They say they are a Keystone Star certified program but that doesn't mean anything. They probably filled out all the forms on their own and sent them in. I know for a fact when I filled out my form I didn't say anything positive. This daycare is a JOKE and should be closed. As soon as I find a new daycare I will be pulling my child out. read more

The Spring Valley YMCA is a wonderful facility, especially for families. It is a great hang out with healthy benefits for your 12 and up kids and a fantastic place to take the younger ones as they have a variety of programs to offer. The indoor pools are fantastic. Also, if it wasn't for the fantastic classes and instructors that keep me motivated, I would not be working out at all I am sure!!!! It is definitely worth the membership fee!!!!!!!!!!!! We've been a member since this YMCA opened and have enjoyed this beautiful facility and staff. However, since the merger and the new management have taken over, things have gone downhill. You can have all the bells and whistles you want, but what makes people want to come back is how they are treated, and unfortunately people have taken a back seat to money. Things are moved around and changed without any regard to how it affects members, just because they want to do it their way and/or to save a few pennies, not necessarily to make it better. The directors are out of touch with the needs of the various age groups. And how can they keep up when they are constantly being rotated into different positions? Being able to do other positions in a company makes everyone flexible, but it needs to be done wisely. When you do it too frequently, it causes chaos and poor management. This reflects all the way down the chain of command and leads to poor morale and poor treatment of members, which is what I'm seeing at this YMCA. They focus on adding more and making things shiny to bring in more members to make up for the ones they are losing. However, they haven't fixed the roof that leaks over the inside track every time it rains. People with young children tend to stay, because it has a lot of programs to offer. However, once kids age out of the sports leagues and camps most realize it's not worth paying them so much money to be treated as insignificant. read more

I love the Y's child care center that is in a little church down the road form the main Y. It would be nice if they were in the same building but this center is like a best kept secret. Two of my children attended from birth through graduation from Pre K. We have the financial means to send them to any center in the area but chose here because of the Y's mission and the loving feeling we got from the staff. I have toured MANY child care centers and get such a sterile feeling when I walk through their pristine buildings. At the Y I get the sense that my children are well cared for, loved, are having fun, learning, thriving! I am the mom who has my kids artwork taped to her fridge and this is that kind of center...proud of all the children, down to earth, and real. They understand what is important for kids. My kids have since graduated on to school but they still BEG to come back here to visit! read more
