Streets…read moresurrounding the park were closed and utilized for entry security check points, food trucks, picnic tables with umbrellas, potty areas and general walkways for the expected crowds. The park itself is nice but small. A nice patch of green inside the city center. It's on a sloped hillside so there are steps to navigate. There is a sloped path on one side to roll up a stroller or wheelchair. Fountain water feature had kids playing in it. Grassy area for a blanket to sit and relax. Today there were two stages setup for the live music. Great sounding sound system and plenty of room to get up and dance. A little warm today so they had large portable fans with water misters strategically placed did what they could to cool some visitors. Quite a few food trucks and some food vendors in the park plaza as well. Great selection of hot foods. Since we arrived early there weren't too many people yet so no lines to wait for food. We had to leave early so we had to miss the July 4th drone show. I assume it was fantastic given the festive ambiance and clear skies.

Times have changed and that epicenter looks different now than it once did. Grittier, for certain, but inside, this booming food hall is vibrant and compelling. I walked over from my place of lodging twice during a 4-night stay and had I stayed longer I'd no doubt have returned a third time. Grand Central market is a great and historic food hall. At least two separate locals expressed their opinion that there's much better food to be found. Of course; LA is huge. But that doesn't discount the fact that pretty much everything one could desire is under this roof. "Wonder Market" indeed. As difficult as it is to resist temptation, should you find yourself here with no appetite for food or drink, know that the people-watching is equally a draw. Park yourself at a table and watch the goings-on. Grand Central Market is a real draw. If you're anywhere near downtown LA, I'd consider it a must-do and frankly, I can't wait to return.

I was told the reason the park is called Five Points is because 5 streets used to intersect there,…read morebut since Costco was built, it rendered the namesake mute. However, the monument on top of the hill has triangle shaped plaques naming Burbank's sister cities, so in a way the name still works. The park itself is tiny, basically a small grassy delta at a busy intersection. Its crowning point is a hill with a statue on top of Burbank's namesake, David Burbank, who was a dentist and real estate investor. The statue is posed in a way that makes it look like he's overseeing the city he built, but most likely he never imagined what it would become since he died in 1895 and Burbank didn't become "The Media Capital of the World" until around the early 1900's. The pillar on which he and the American flag sits is carved with images recognizing important figures and eras in Burbank, like Amelia Earhart, who once lived and flew here, and the railroad and film industries that helped the city grow. At the base, including the aforementioned plaques for the sister cities, is a time capsule set to be opened in 2060. For such a small park and monument, it tries to encapsulate as much of the city's history as it can. I actually ended up staying at this park for a couple of hours while waiting for my car to be fixed since the surrounding area is full of tire stores as well as restaurants. Instead of waiting in a crowded lobby full of impatient people wanting their car back, I sat on the grass, admired the trees in full bloom, most of whose flowers had fallen and carpeted the grass, and I also got to enjoy the view of the mountains which the statue also seemed to be doing. Parking is free on the main road and side streets, or if you're like me your car is being held hostage by the tire store. If you live in Burbank, are just in the area, a history buff, or just looking for something to do, this is a nice quick stop.

The most annoying people are the ones trying to hustle CDs or get you to go to their weed shop.

The board walk is along side the beach and you can either pay for parking at any of the lots and help support the maintenance of the beach or you can do metered parking or free street parking, you just have to pay attention to the signs and be okay with walking. Lots of things to see and it's super bustling and lively on the board walk, especially on the weekends. They recommend people to walk their bikes here, so you can easily just walk it. Gift shops, novelty stores, cannabis and magic mushrooms stores, cafe's, quick service food restaurants, art displays, street performers and vendors, people walking their dogs, and much more. Be wary of the drop shipping resellers or the boot leg items, but there's lots of original artwork and crafts being vended by people. I hate all of the AI advertisements thought, none of it makes the food look good and makes my skin crawl so I'm wishing vendors would take note of this. Very innovative to see some of the designs of shirts, Snoop Dog's ice cream parlor (sadly not opened), and people selling shaved ice on the go and much more. Also keep your hands busy so people don't try to push something in your hands and make you purchase it. Tourist trap prices for certain things, but then there are people making an honest living selling ice cold water bottles for $1 which is pretty fair if you think about it. I don't think I'll go out of my way to be here, but interesting to be at at least once.

This tidal salt marsh is the last piece of open space along Via Marina. You cannot enter the wetland itself but can view it from behind a low fence. We walk here from our condo and enjoy seeing the seasonal and daily changes. There is no parking here, but spaces are available at the nearby Courtyard ... as are restrooms.
