From the hilltop we walked down the stairs, grabbed a matcha at Alfred Coffee, climbed up the Music Box Steps, and explored a few more staircases around Silverlake before heading back up to the car up the Micheltorena Stairs. Such a fun way to get 7-10k steps in while getting to know the neighborhood.

I was totally drawn to the adorable heart painted stairs on Sunset and Micheltorena. The stairs…read moreinclude 177 steps with 40 of the steps painted with hearts. The history of the stairs in Silverlake is actually quite interesting. Apparently, back in the day, the stairs made it easier in the hilly section of the city to access stops along the Red Car Electric Railway. The stairs were unofficially painted in 2015 and in 2019, it became an official public arts project. We took the steps beyond the painted hearts and you're essentially just walking through a neighborhood. It's a great spot for pics and a shortcut through the neighborhood.

The event allowed us to check out the new cultural complex in Atwater Village. It was truly an impressive warehouse full of artsy businesses including a business for writing workshops, a yoga place, art galleries and many more. Right when you walk in, they give you several choices of designs that you could put on your shirt. If you brought a shirt, they printed cool designs on it with their screen printing equipment. This was provided by the Eagle Rock Yacht Club. CRASH Space held a craft center where you could craft, make electronic projects with soldering and sew some cool stuff. It was definitely interesting to watch people make electronic do it yourself projects. This included a DIY battery operated ipod or Mp3 charger with a usb. The Brazilian Yoga center was absolutely amazing. The ambience of the studio with its chinese lanterns, candles and meditation music made the experience unique and really helped you get into a meditative spirit. Afterwards Slate magazine held a live reading of their publication by the writers. This event was interesting and was held in a nice courtyard. Overall, this event shows that the arts, crafts, and creative spirit of L.A. is getting bigger and better every year.

It's…read moreconsidered a cultural landmark that I've had the pleasure of passing several times since moving the LA's San Fernando Valley nearly 13 years ago. It's actually in LA County believe it or not, especially since it's before cities like Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Malibu and has grown and evolved with time and been super well preserved. Purchased by local resident Rick Denman in the late 90s and blossoming ever since... The GW of Topanga is about half walf up from a starting point at Ventura Blvd/ Topanga Cyn in Woodland Hills up the adventurous cruise up. Rick has filled this wall not with just his own work but other locals as well. It's a collection of so many abstract pieces, trinkets, toys, statues, tools and surprising yet fun items, because as we all know... Art is everywhere and whatever you make it. Most people take Topanga on their way to the Pacific Coast Highway from the valley side, as well as various destinations like Inn at the Seventh Ray (a personal fav other than the coastline or Malibu or Santa Monica) and get to take in this wall of local flavor which is most visible during the day and with light. Definitely gotta pull over next time I'm up. Last picture I took I was in the passenger side and we were going to quick.
