8 million dollars for this small *** park hunny! Boy bye. But it's nice n cozy, not for no 8M project though ^_^

I was in the area recently and it was nice to see a small park in the middle of the urban jungle. Spring Street Park is very small, though, not enough shade, an area for kids to play. Not a lot of seating. I am happy to see it, but hopefully the vegetation will grow more or they will plant more to create more shade and shield from cars passing by, etc. A good idea, could use more parks in the area, although they're hard to maintain and create spaces for! read more

A somewhat up kept small walk-through park for all. While there are plenty of places to kick back, read a book, stroll your pets, play with your kids and enjoy some greenery in the DTLA jungle... the entire park smells of so many things that aren't always pleasing to the pallet... mainly an abundance of dogs and various liquids from the human body (urine). I haven't had the joy to encountered much security here when the park is open... which mainly seems to be weekends and a small portion of the day during week days... but definitely sounds like no one would want to greet them/him... enter with nose caution. read more

Spring Street Park is a DTLA dog caregivers Dream space It's is a perfect place for fellow dog caregivers to connect and our four footed friends to socialize. Be mindful some people do not keep their dogs on a leash there. read more

We have worked hard to bring parks to DTLA. Too bad the wrong neighbors are enjoying it more than the immediate neighbors next door. I have to be careful where I sit and stand because of the humans that do not pick up after their dogs. The smells of dogs is not very appealing. Cool place to hang out sometimes but some of the undesirables make it less than perfect to visit all the time. read more

Wow! I'm really surprised to see all the negative reviews! What's wrong with you people?! Maybe every time I've been there I've been lucky but it's a cute small park. There are concrete "seats" on the side and yes, there are some homeless people, but it's DTLA! There are homeless people everywhere and it's something you have to contend with if you want to live or hang around down here! Aside from that, I love the combination of a little grassy area and the beautiful vintage buildings all around you! So pretty! Maybe I'm just much more an animal person than a human person, but I love that there are plenty of dogs mingling together and just having lots of fun! The times that I've been here - all the dogs were supervised! and obviously the dogs don't come here alone - I've also seen their humans mingling as well! There is a also a designated play place type area for little kids - although I've never seen any here (and actually very few if any in DTLA in general). In a suburban city of any size, you're always going to have to live with homeless people. I don't get people complaining about this - yes, it's annoying but go hang out in the 'burbs somewhere if you can't deal! read more

This really isn't an update, but for people that just don't like the fact that dogs are allowed, walk your happy butt over to Grand Hope Park near Ralphs & FIDM! If it makes you happy, I was kicked out of the park for SITTING on a bench (that wasn't even located inside the park it was near the entrance) with my 10 lb dog, who was on a leash, that I pick up after! read more

After walking by this place all the time for the last 6 months, it is finally open! It is a small, welcoming park that has lots to offer. There are open grass areas, perfect for laying down, clean walkways, and an new playground with low toys. The surrounding taller buildings provide shade as the hours dictate, what a smart plan. There are lots of pet owners who come here so I would be careful where you lay down. This park is welcomed to this developing area of downtown, just treat it with respect! read more

Here we go AGAIN! A guard in the park is waving his schlong around again, bossing visitors to the park with the latest "rule changes." I have heard rumors, from a number of people, that if you live in one of the buildings on either end of the park, you are "more equal than others." I'm trying to verify this, but if true, it would not surprise me. I have seen evidence, repeated evidence, that prevailing attitudes are that the park is private property, established exclusively for the enjoyment of people in the Rowan or El Dorado. Nothing could be further from the truth, but facts don't seem to have an effect on some people. Again, the park is managed, overall, by Los Angeles Recreation and Parks. This indicates that the park is funded, at least in part, by the City of Los Angeles, and paid for, at least in part, by Los Angeles tax-payers. I have heard people with dogs complain that one guard in particular treats people from one of these two buildings like special guests while barking commands at anyone else. I hope this isn't true. I have heard rumors that the manager of the El Dorado doesn't like dogs and doesn't want them in the park. I have heard that the guards who patrol the park also serve as guards at the El Dorado and the Rowan. If this is true, isn't that a conflict of interest? I have heard rumors that a member of the "Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council" doesn't like dogs in the park due to canine excrement issues. Is it possible that the attitudes of these two individuals impact how the guard(s) treat visitors? Visitors, I might add, whose taxes made this park possible. Would it be possible that dog owner's attitudes toward cleaning up waste would improve if security personnel weren't constantly changing the rules or treating some unfairly while "red carpeting" others? Again, if rumors turn out to be true. As it stands, taxpayer money is being wasted on this so called park. Touted as additional green-space, the largest expanse of grass is often off-limits, and every other botanical thing is behind fencing. Most of the park is paved with concrete; very un-park-like. There are two other expanses of grass, or enclosed canine space, in a five block radius, that are always open, never have complaints (or rarely at most), and most certainly do not have guards or a guard who seems to take special delight in playing boss. The most notable of these is the "dog run" across from City Hall, that is open even during major events such as New Years and the Fourth of July. Put it out of our collective misery. Turn it back into a parking lot so it can at least generate some much needed revenue for the city. As it stands now, it's a drain on taxpayer resources and no one wants to use the park because they never know what they'll be required to do the next time they visit it. read more

Eek, uck, blech, methinks not, indeed. The park is pretty (a bit overdeveloped though) and the green space looks good. BUT, owners are allowing their dogs to poop on the grassy knoll. If "picking up" poop actually picks all traces of poop, this might be okay, but it doesn't! Without having to be a rocket scientist, I'm going to guess that owners allow their dogs to pee all over the grassy knoll too. Are the other parts of the park people-friendly? If you don't mind sipping on your coffee, chatting with your friend or biting into a sandwich as someone's dog is pooping in front of you, then perhaps, yes. For me, not. read more

The park has only been open a couple days and it is now turned into a dog toilet.

Ok. So so we have this awesome neighborhood park where people, dogs and children alike can enjoy some fresh air in the middle of downtown LA. They built a park in the back JUST for dogs! Imagine that! Now, when I go back there, there is one guard that enforces that my dog is on a leash (apparently people complain when dogs are off the leash in the DOG park), except there are other guards that do not enforce this rule and tell me she's fine off the leash as long as everyone else is okay with it in the dog park area. What's the point of having a dog park if I have to have her on the leash? This park is having an identity crisis and it is quite annoying. The lack of good dog parks in DTLA is crazy, but having weird rules makes it even worse. read more

Spring Street Park - Parks Near Me - Los Angeles, California

This place had a lot of potential, given the location it's in, and the design. Three and a half years ago, the only park that existed in downtown, was Pershing Square, and it was definitely not a place you would go to. Except for the ice skating ring during the Winter Holiday season, or the summer concerts When this park first opened, everyone had high hopes that it would be a wonderful addition to the DTLA community. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Too many dog owners have brought their canines to defecate and urine there, and now even walking by, not even going INSIDE the park, the stench is entirely unbearable. This offensive odor, could also be caused by the many homeless people who have ended up there. The city needs to solve a few problems, before little projects like this succeed. Skid Row, is a complicated issue, but because of the lack of political support, it has only gotten worse. As a result, what could have been a great park, is ruined. Grand Park has security guards there, for the right reasons. If this park had also been given a security guard, this could have ended up better. This park needs to have someone who enforces, a no defecation and no urine by animals and humans. This park is too small to accommodate the hundreds and hundred of dogs in downtown, and it should not be used as a public restroom. Also, dog owners, it is worth mentioning that there is a dog park close to the Arts District, about a block away from Urth Cafe. I recommend going there instead, or to the lawn in front of the LAPD station on Main and 2nd. Writing this review makes me incredibly sad, but it is necessary. :( read more

Wonderful park filled with people and their beautiful dogs all running around and playing together! People are very respectful here and pick up after their pets, I don't quite understand the hate in the reviews! For those that worry about dog poop on the grass, it may help you feel better that any park you go to will have been shit and peed on at some point, whether it's by a dog, or birds, squirrels, and/or homeless or drunk people. Only dog owners are considerate enough to pick up their pup's poop. So I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I loved the openness of this park right smack in the middle of all these tall skyscrapers. It's like a little haven to sit and relax in, and leisurely pass the time watching dogs have the time of their lives. It's great and so refreshing! Definitely a lovely place to walk around in dtla. read more

Only been here once but I went in the morning and first noticed it was a pretty small park. It's not flat, it's like a very small hill and that's where the grass is. There's quite a bit of homeless people but that's la. I've been reading some reviews and yes, the dog area you have to have a leash on. There's a sign that says so before you enter. It's just dirt there anyways but I would understand why you'd need a leash on for safety. The gate isn't a double gate like most dog parks are. If someone else comes in while your dog is off leash, your pup could run out if not trained. Not gonna lie, I wanted to remove the leash too because it was early in the morning with no other dogs but yeah there's security and they'll probably tell you that you need a leash on read more

Small dog parents beware--the dog park at the back is not fully enclosed and small pups can escape into the busy back alley. I don't know why in the world they didn't fence it into the ground all the way around, but there is a sliding door that leaves a large gap that any dog under 15 pounds can easily pass through. It isn't safe, and hopefully the rest of the community can help us get a fully enclosed dog area. read more

And I'm wandering between still shining aluminum (probably) fencing, almost afraid to step on discolored stone but looking up to see blush-faced girl in quite short shorts fixed gear cruising along strip of pavement, perhaps a rehearsal for Downtown Los Angeles Community Players present "Call The Midwife". But in this context an analogy for the conflict in Syria. Or maybe she just lives around here and the heat radiating between stone and concrete and the sliver of noon shadow along the rows of what I eventually recognize to be seats is calming and merely luke-warm. Realizing I've been sitting for nearly a clock minute and haven't been approached with hustled story culminating toward a need for spare change, I allow my shoulders to untense and hips slump. The only cool near my person is the plastic bottle of vitamin-infused water I'm hesitant to finish, no clearly demarcated recycling receptacles are placed at convenient intervals but that's not stopping the leashed golden retriever from jabbing his nose into the grassed and moist actual "park" area. Why it would even occur to an animal is beyond my reasoning at this point, leaning back into (or would it be"onto") one of many obelisk headrests it's less like a bench with individual backings and arm rests and more like vaguely smoothed gravestones or slightly rough operating room chairs. Children might scamper into one and pretend it's a medieval throne, if children were permitted inside the municipal boundaries of The Old Bank District. And even if they did residents of nearby lofts would and should be appalled at their lack of historical understanding, as carpentry and metal smithing was in full swing during what we commonly refer to as the "middle ages". But my mind wanders although it's not lost. I know where I am, I'm in a newly constructed "parklet" between artisan coffee brewers and one-room art galleries and rising-priced loft buildings. "But the main thing I'm maintaining is positivity because all those people who are pitching projects, know what I'm saying, they got their screenplays and I'm not all about that, I'm just developing my own thing and when you're an entertainer I see all kinds of people making all kinds of what I would say to them is you've got to keep the positivity and love because in the ultimate love is..." Reverberating from the paint-worn brick and in tones nearly impossible not to overhear. The jingle of choke chains and the light of noon is creeping less slowly up my legs and sunscreen-sweating hands. Against the soothing comfort of stone the nausea and sudden sweats are fading into a satisfying calm of electrolyte buzzing, spreading gently across face and chest and it's that sudden moment where the morning's hangover just ends and a new afternoon begins. I'm spending my carefree afternoon at the park. read more

Good local park to take my dog to when I'm short on time. Very classy look with the fountain/ water feature! The grass is muddy so that's annoying but besides that come on ppl! Y'all will complain and bitch about anything! A park in my dtla neighborhood, all good by me! read more

EDITED 3/11/2017-The security has improved dramatically in the last 4 to 5 months. They are much more friendly to dogs and people!

Haven't been here in a while. walked by, thought I'd stop in. Two guys arguing in the kid play area about dogs not being allowed in that area. Guy with dog says his dog is well trained. Guy with dog continues 'training' his dog to run up and down the slide. I kid you not; the dog than takes off, out the park, makes a right on Spring and disappears around the building. The guy chasing it, screaming its name the whole way. I don't know what happened don't care. The park smells like toilet and so does the play area. Good riddance. read more

I'm giving this a middle-of-the-Road review. The place is nice and laid out well, but the homeless who congregate there are a minus. The big problem though is the lack of consistency in hours of operation as the change at the daily whim of the security guard on duty. Also, what is so hard about figuring out that the grass that is planted is wrong for that park? It needs a much heartier grass to live with the excessive dog usage. read more

I'm a dog owner, and even I think that the park is overwhelmed with dogs. Have gone there twice now (dog in tow), and left immediately after realizing that there's already too many damn dogs present. And yes, dogs urinate on that beautiful, small mound of grass, so there's no way I'd let any kids play on it. read more

I am so glad a park had opened in this downtown community. A lot of people complaint about the dogs and not able to have their children play on the grass. However, there are more dogs downtown than children and I haven't seen a dog owner who did not pick up after their dogs at the park. It's grass, no one complaints about dogs at other parks, i.e. Echo Park Lake, Griffith Park, Elysian Park... so why so much complaint about this one? Over half of the people living downtown have dogs, but only a very very very small percentage are raising their kids downtown. I'd say Downtown LA is more of a dog friendly city than kids friendly. A lot of people move downtown is because all the lofts here allow dogs. I think the people who are complaining need to just accept the fact that Downtown LA is a dog friendly city and if you chose to raise your children here, you have to accept that there will be lots of dogs around, on the streets and in the parks. read more

As I'm writing this I am locked in the Spring St Park. It's Now 9:03pm on Sunday night and whoever is responsible for locking the park did it without checking first to see If anyone(namely me)was in it before they locked it. I've been trying to get out for an hour now. There are 6 police officers on the other side of the gate trying to get me out. A lot of phone calls are being made but no one seems to have a key so we're waiting for someone with a bolt cutter. What a cluster f*ck! 6 cops who should be on patrol are not. What if I was having a medical emergency? The cops just saved the day by cutting the lock. Thank you LAPD! This is a serious disconnect, parks dept! Someone clearly didn't think this through. The park has no stated hours of operation, just a nebulous "Dawn to Dusk" on the sign at the entrance. When the cops called general services looking for a key they suggested they just let me stay locked in the park over night. Really? Someone else asked the cops if they could detain me. Really? Whoever locked the park without checking it first should be reevaluated as an employee. When you add to that the fact that the only area with grass is essentially a giant toilet for hundreds of neighborhood dogs even though there is a DEDICATED DOG PARK 2 BLOCKS AWAY this park is a FAIL! Take your dogs 2 more blocks to the dog park, hipsters. Fido can use the exercise and SO CAN YOU! I can't believe people are letting their infants, toddlers and children play in that grass! read more
