While at Spring Mill State Park, Tony and I stopped at the Spring Mill Inn. It's absolutely gorgeous and I wish we had spent the night there. We parked and walked around the Inn enjoying the Grounds and the gardens. If we ever go back to the area we will definitely stay at this gorgeous historical Inn.

Worn out and dirty rooms. Hardly any electrical outlets and zero by the desk in the room. For the love of god DO NOT pull the bed back to find an outlet - no one wants to see that. Place is basically old with no modern amenities. Think an old Motel 6. Hey, at least it didn't smell and the the thermostat worked.

This past weekend we were able to attend a marriage retreat at Spring Mill inn and we were very content and satisfied with our stay. The customer service was very accommodating and helpful and the wait staff were extremely nice as well. It was a huge group of us and it's the perfect place to get away from the world and focus on your significant other and or family members. We were able to check in easily and check out no problem. They have a pool, which was nice and a full blown restaurant inside. The restaurant was nice, my least favorite was breakfast. I wish they offered some sort of turkey sausage or turkey bacon but it's all good. I also realized the cereal was generic but lunch and dinner were fairly good! Pros Customer service Decent clean rooms DVD player and can rent movies Cons Breakfast food It cost $50 if you lose your room key Very limited access to WiFi, which was a healthy thing for all of us. We would be back if the opportunity arises as we live in Indianapolis.

Sometimes things like spas, gourmet cooking and cell phone service aren't as important as sitting by the fire playing a board game and living a simpler life surrounded by nature. For these times, Spring Mill State Park Inn is a great place to visit! I visit Spring Mill State Park every March as the overnight stop on a wine trail in Southern Indiana. Located about an hour south of Bloomington, it's a cute, no frills state park inn. Walking in the main doors into the lobby, you immediately see a lot of sitting areas with a fireplace, and usually a lot of people reading and relaxing in front of the fire. The basement has an indoor pool that is typically overrun with kids, but also another fireplace with plenty of places to sit and chat, board games, and an arcade with air hockey, ping pong tables, and some limited vending machines. If you get hungry late at night, I suggest bringing your own food as the cafeteria closes early, and the only options are vending machines that don't take credit cards (or if they do, it never seems to work). I wouldn't call the kitchen and dining room a restaurant. I think cafeteria is much more fitting. I had Sunday brunch there recently, which was a $7 buffet that had all of the staples on it: eggs, meats, fruits, yogurt and granola, pancakes, juices, etc. For $7 a person, you couldn't beat it. A few notes: Wireless internet is available for free in the rooms and common areas. Parking is free (and half of the structure is covered), but there is NO CELL SERVICE!

What a beautiful Inn! Nestled in the heart of the Hoosier National Forest, Spring Mill Inn boasts incredible views at a very affordable price. We stopped here for lunch while taking a photography tour. The buffet only cost $8.99 and is full of great homestyle choices. The best part is the wide array of pies. They had over 10! The park is gorgeous, has a lake, several caves where you can take guided tours for $3, and the historic Pioneer Village. I love Turkey Run and Clifty Falls, but this park might be sliding it's way to number 1.

How we found the shower, leftover soap and shampoo from the previous guest. Clearly not cleaned.

I wanted to love Spring Mill Inn, I truly did but the stay didn't even come close to wowing me or my husband. I booked a King size room. Upon check-in, my husband was given a key to our room (I was visiting with a friend at the time and not present for the check-in) where he found we were given two queen beds. He then went back to the front desk to see what was going on. Apparently, there was only one king room left and the air conditioning wasn't working. My husband asked if there was a price difference and was told there was not a manager on duty (this was about 7pm on a Saturday) but to check back in the morning to see about adjusting the price. So, after visiting with friends, we returned to the hotel later that night. My husband was going to hop in the shower and saw that the shower had clearly not been cleaned since the previous guest-there was a partially used bottle of shampoo and broken bars of soap in corner. Gross!!! After waking in the morning, I got ready and went to the front desk. I was told that my cc would be credited $22.30 upon check-out. I also voiced concern about the condition of the shower and was told they were sorry and would bring it to the attention of the housekeeping staff. Additionally and oddly, our room was equipped with freestanding dehumidifier. If not ever seen that in a hotel. The place desperately needs updating. Two stars given because the grounds were beautiful and an adequate supply of comfy pillows were available.

And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

For a property seeming to target the upper middle market, I think there is a lot of value. They have many free amenities that most no longer do - no resort fee, no parking fee, free shuttle to the sister hotel and downtown. I also feel the pricing at restaurants is somewhat reasonable, particularly at happy hour. Add in amenities closer to a luxury property - evening music, nice indoor pool almost always open, and obviously just being in the unique dome... This is a winner. We found the service to be consistently friendly. We had no issues with getting help for our large amount of stuff at check in or check out. Very nice to our dog and he got a lot of treats for the pet fee. Dining service was on the slower side but seemed to fit the vibe. We stayed in a suite with two queens. It was large. The furniture was on the worn side but well maintained. Nice to see unique furnishings vs generic all white everywhere. Plenty for the kids to do. We enjoyed the newly restored bowling alley and found it nicer than the same priced one at French Lick Hotel. We did like going to French Lick for the shopping and to read about the history. There is a lot about the history everywhere, including the small museum (a large room) in the hotel. We were very happy and would like to return.

I called down to the front desk to have them deliver me a fitted sheet at 11:30pm. The room also doesn't have curtains. There are blinds with slatts but it lets in so much light. It's a terrible design. There are parts of the hotel and resort that have signs to help you navigate but other areas of the hotel (and the parking/dricing area) have absolutely 0 signs. The hotel overall is somewhat dated and is in need of a facelift. The room was the standard Hampton Inn room: bed / bath, TV and a refrigerator and a desk area to work at, if needed. Room was in good shape. Bed was comfy enough and the heat worked. Hot water took a little bit of time to get going and on the last day, the water suddenly lost pressure and dribbled out of the shower - thankfully I was just finished or I would have not been a happy camper. Bath sink was draining extremely slow so I mentioned it to the front desk and by the time I returned to the room that afternoon the problem was completely solved. Very good response on that. They have a free breakfast bar in the mornings and although it is nothing gourmet, it will get you up and going without adding to the cost of your trip. Our third person stayed on the hideaway bed, but we also found a nice twin mattress set upstairs. The house was clean, cozy and really nice! We were within walking distance of everything in town. There was only one potential snag in the whole experience....our GPS's had us all turned around (we were on 5 motorcycles), so we ended up asking some police officers that were parked at the gas station where the house was. We would never have found it, had we not gotten an escort from the nice police officer! He knew the house and said, "Follow me--it's tricky." The street sign had two names on it, with the one we needed to see, all covered up by tree branches. Note to the lovely Vesta: Please warn people of this, because it would be nearly impossible to find in the dark. Be sure to bring TP, paper towels, a sponge and dish soap. We'll stay there again. It was a wonderful house and a great deal!
