Amazing staff and care. We have a dog with severe anxiety and a recently adopted a 10 year old Maine coon mix w medical issues. They are all being treated with the upmost care. I decided to try out this vet clinic after having a couple of bad experiences with a different vet clinic. I went with a friend a year ago when their dog needed annual shots and was impressed with the staff because the dog is quite temperamental and is extremely difficult with new people. So I booked Fritz's annual appointment and we were on our way. The lobby is quite large which I like because it makes check in and filling out paperwork easier especially if there are multiple animals waiting on rooms or to be seen. Check in was easy and they were super prompt in getting us into a room. The room was also spotless. Everything was very clean in the facility. The Tech and the Vet who saw Fritz were both very patient and friendly. Fritz is a bit nervous around new people but they fed him plenty of treats and he thawed a bit. The staff was in no rush and were attentive, receptive to any questions or concerns, and most importantly to me-patient with the animal they were tending to. My other doggo Sam will be needing shots in the next month or so and I will definitely be returning. read more

We have stopped going to this clinic after the staff changed. I called with an emergency an hour before they were to close. The receptionist told me they didn't have time and to go to a pet emergency. Didn't even take a minute to see if they could squeeze me in or if they had a cancellation. Called a vet in Gardner and they made the time to see us. Even though they were closing in 20 minutes. They took the time and fit us into their schedule. I booked a reservation two months prior for my dog to be boarded there for my dog while I was on vacation. Once I figure out my flight times I called to add another day onto the boarding for my dog because I wouldn't be back in time to pick my dog up before they closed. So when I called to have extra day for my dog boarding, the front desk receptionist named Kayla let me know that they don't have a reservation for my dog to be boarded. I go on vacation in May. I set this reservation for my dog to be boarded in December. Now they're telling me they're all booked up and that my dog can't be boarded there I don't know who made the mistake, but they made a mistake. I had made a reservation for my dog in December 2025?for my dog to be boarded the very end of May 2026. They pretty much just let me know that there's nothing they can do that. The boarding is already booked however, I have proof that I did make a boarding reservation in December by calling them and my dog was all set to be boarded with them. Kayla, the Front Desk receptionist was completely rude. She was no help at all and pretty much told me there's nothing they could do even though it was their fault that somehow someone didn't get down on the books that I had called in December and made a reservation for my dog to be boarded. Looks like that's their problem and their mistake on their employees. So, I will never go there again and I was not suggest anyone that wants a reliable place to board their animals while they're on vacation to take their animals there to be boarded. They're very unprofessional. Kayla is completely rude to me refusing to give me the groomers name that I talked to when I made the reservation and after asking for about five minutes, she finally gave me her bosses name, Jen Grimes so I could call and complain. It's not my fault you guys lost my reservation that I made in December for my dog to be boarded in May. I've boarded my dog there at least two different times no problems. However, the staff that they have running now clearly has problems because they lost my reservation or they don't have one entirely even though I have proof that I did make a reservation in December for my dog to stay in may. Kayla, the front desk receptionist, is very unprofessional and just flat out rude. I will never use it this location ever again for any services for my dog, especially not boarding and my dog, and I will be telling everyone I know and write every other view that I know of and posted on every social media that I have that doesn't have too many followers, but at least 3000 followers. Buyer beware. You don't know what you'll get with them how you lose someone's reservation that they made in December 2025 for May 2026 is absurd and absolutely unprofessional and the Front Desk staff she was probably the rudest person I've ever spoke to she didn't care at all about the whole situation and was condescending and rude the entire time. Not a good look considering that's the first people they see when they walk into your business. Is someone unprofessional and rude almost like they don't like their job. I would reconsider her being the face of your company, considering she doesn't know what she's talking about. She's not helpful and completely a rude person. I also am gonna be reaching out to a lawyer because I have proof that I did make this reservation in December 2025 so for you guys to just lose, it is absurd. Very unprofessional and pathetic. Maybe take some business courses on how to deal with customers because Kayla you don't have it and I will be talking to your manager Jen Grims to let her know exactly how you treated me when I approved that I made the reservation. someone messed up in your company and now I don't have a place to order my dog. It's OK. I don't think you would take good care of my animal anyways from the way that you spoke to me the customer without me and other customers you wouldn't have a job so I doubt you would take good care of my animal. Do better as a company have some integrity and as an employee as the receptionist so essentially the very first face, the customer sees they're not gonna want to be encountered by someone that is rude, lack of any empathy, condescending, and extremely unprofessional. If you want your company, to continue to be successful I would rethink having Kayla as the first people person the customer sees and experiences when walking in the front doors and who the customers have to interact with. read more

Took the cat to the vet for vaccination. Receptionist was rude. Went into the exam room, Veterinarian walked in, no hello no introduction examined the cat for all of 45 seconds and administered a rabies vaccination. $86. Was paying the rude girl at the receptionist counter and she asked me for the records I had on my phone. I said I would email them when I got home. She rolls her eyes and looks at her co worker which was a nice young lady. Terrible overall experience. They are rude which tells me they care not about my business. read more

Don't let the negative reviews taint your perception of SHVC. The clinic has undergone a complete change in ownership, staffing, and practicing veterinarians, and I have had the best care for my 1.5 year old labradoodle, Phoebe. My parents took two of their pets to SHVC during the time of the previous owners/veterinarians managing of the practice, and were far from impressed. I have not received care from the other doctor, but Dr. Austin Whitmon is truly a gift from the veterinarian gods. I had one appointment with a different veterinarian prior to him, and the difference is all too evident. My family now takes two dogs to SHVC, and have been clients since 2015 for our various pets. My dog has EXTREME separation anxiety and behavioral issues, and Dr. Whitmon has worked with me on multiple treatment plans, options, and coping strategies. This is not just COVID-19 puppy syndrome... she jumps on top of my kitchen counters, turns on the stove, has explosive diarrhea, howls until she loses her voice/bark, and hurts herself any time I leave her alone. One of the previous veterinarians was extremely dismissive and told me that my dog was a lost cause, that I wasn't training her enough. I was so frustrated because I had spent thousands on behavioral therapy and interventions for this dog... all to be told there were no other options! Dr. Whitmon listened, observed, and validated my concerns... both as a frustrated pet parent and human being just trying to live a normal life. I cannot speak highly enough of his attentiveness and care for my pet, myself, and others. I know that the clinic is a bit understaffed and has been going through a transitionary period with the departure of its previous owners; I truly believe that this was for the best, and recommend SHVC to all of my friends with puppies, senior dogs, cats, cattle, etc. You will not find a better veterinary clinic for your individualized needs! Do not let these negative past reviews fool you. I have a dog with VERY special needs, unlike any other I have ever raised, and have received nothing but exceptional, quality care... at a reasonable price! My grandma recently passed away so I took in her cat (Peanut) because I didn't want him getting placed in a shelter. I made an appointment here for October 3rd at 4:40pm because was already a patient at this clinic. Peanut really needs his back nails trimmed and I want to get him microchipped in case he ever runs away. When I called to make the appointment I asked multiple times if he would need to be put under general anesthesia because on his chart it says "difficult nail trim." I was reassured that he would just need multiple people to help hold him down, and that he would not need to be sedated. I took PTO in order to get to the appointment on time (I live 25 minutes away from Spring Hill). While in the waiting room, I was told that in the past they had a difficult time trimming his nails. They did agree to try to trim them, but once I got into a separate room a different lady came in to talk to me. She told me that he's difficult to deal with, and they would have to wrap him in a towel in order to trim his nails. They didn't even let me take him out of the cat carrier before I was turned away. I asked the lady why I came here, and she said "I don't know". No explanation, no apologies, no advice on what to do with my cat. I was told to schedule another appointment so that I could drop him off and leave him at the vet all day. I'm frustrated that I wasted my time, and put my cat through the unnecessary stress of being in the cat carrier and in the car for 25 minutes. I also called this clinic on October 1st at 8:50am because Peanut was throwing up clear liquid. The lady who answered the phone was nice and helpful. She told me she needed to ask the vet if he/she could squeeze us in, and she mentioned there was a slot open at 10:40am. She said she would call me back if they could fit us in. Flash forward to 10:20am, and she never called me back. I called the vet back and once I got ahold of the same lady I am told they won't be able to fit peanut in. Which is fine, I totally get it. BUT what gets me is that they couldn't even give me any advice or a call back to let me know they can't help him. I was told the vet doesn't have the correct supplies which they told me was an IV. I called to ask for a checkup because my cat was throwing up his food and water. Why would he need an IV when going in for a checkup? The only advice this clinic could give me was to take him to the ER. That would've costed me $400-$600 when I already had an appointment set up to bring him here on Monday October 3rd. I just don't get it. How can you get into a career that is mainly helping cats and dogs and then give up when my cat is "too difficult" to deal with? Very disappointing. They do a good job and are very reasonably priced compared to the other vet clinics in Overland Park. The only downside is if you go in on a Saturday morning it is walkins only and you have to wait. I thank God often for this practice as I have used them often over the years even as I moved around the Overland Park/desoto/Prairie Village etc. areas. We always had dogs. One star as they used to have a solid practice with solid staff. Today I called in to ask about a neuter for my pedigreed animal. I told the staff that this animal specifically cannot be given Ketamine at all under no circumstances. The staff said were not sure what the doctor is going to use but thats a breeder telling you that, not a vet who went to school for this. What?! whoa. Stay away! Listen to the review from the former employee. We've utilized Spring Hill Veterinarian clinic for a few years. Our 15 year old dog was slowly fading. His health was failing and on his last checkup we discussed euthanasia with the veterinarian. He instructed us that "we'd know when it was time" and to call in and schedule a visit when we thought it was time. Several months later, it was clear that our dog was in constant pain. As instructed, we called to schedule a euthanasia visit. They gave us options on cremation, burial, etc as well as pricing. As you can imagine, we were in emotional shambles with the impending death of our longtime pet. We brought our sick dog in for the procedure. A tech escorted us into an examine room. We placed our dog on the table and the tech inserted a thermometer into his rectum. We were confused why but, at the time, we were deep in sadness and shock with the circumstances. Shortly thereafter, the vet came in the room. She quickly lifted our dog's lips and briefly looked at his teeth. Again, we were confused but still in shock. She gave him shot of sedative and said she'd be back in 15 minutes. At this time, the tech took my credit card and brought back a paid receipt for $60 more than we had been quoted for the euthanasia visit. I asked about the amount and she said the extra was for "the examination". I was confused but focused on the impending death of our longtime pet. The vet returned and started an IV to administer the lethal dose of sedatives. She missed the vein but injected the dose anyway. For the next 15 minutes we had the agony of watching our pet struggle to breath while the vet tried to find another vein. It was horrible. They finally found a vein and were able to complete the procedure. Several hours later, the reality of what they did to us set in. We called and objected to the "examination charge" . They refused to adjust the bill or apologize for the botched euthanasia process. These are people who are more concerned with stripping your wallet than caring for your pet. Stay away. read more

I boarded my two dogs here because we use them as our vet. My dog has diabetes so I felt it was best to have her boarded here. She is also blind in one eye and has a terrible discharge in both of her eyes. I was sooooo wrong. When I picked up my dogs, the dog with diabetes was lethargic. She would not eat or drink. Her eyes were crusted shut. My other pet now has an eye infection as well. $300.00 later I refused to have her stay overnight to monitor her blood glucose. I have a meter at home so the dr. showed me how to check her numbers. Her blood sugar was 621 when they checked it in their office. She now has returned to her old self but it was touch and go for a while. I will not board here ever again. read more

I took my German Shepards here years ago and had good service. fast forward to this weekend when I needed boarding in a pinch for my new German Shepherd. O had weight concerns with my baby. Dr. Whitaker called me and we had a 30 minute conversation. Rather than have me run an expensive blood panel, she gave me practical suggestions for my baby. The staff is awesome and I can see they love my baby. We've seen 2 of their vets and they both were fantastic with Rip. We've brought our dogs here over the years, under the old ownership and the new. We've never had any issues and our experiences have been positive. Under the former owners we had to put one of our beloved dogs down due to age and cancer. I don't remember the vet's name because this was about 8 years ago; but I do remember how compassionate he was and we were impressed with the sympathy and service we received. Under the new owners we've taken our pets there for their shots and wellness checkups for the last couple of years. The staff has always been friendly and helpful in person AND over the phone. Around the first of the year, the previous practitioner of the Spring Hill Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Sheller, sold his practice to a husband and wife veterinary duo in order to retire. Under Dr. Sheller, we have been bringing our pets to the Spring Hill Vet Clinic since the mid 2000s. We do not live near Spring Hill, but went out of way to bring our pets to this clinic because of Dr. Sheller's outstanding service. I cannot emphasize enough how disappointed we are in the new practitioners. Without going into incredible detail and naming names, one of the new practitioners misdiagnosed our 10 yr old dog with terminal cancer without any sort of examination. This person recommended we not investigate further, i.e., perform an examination to determine if the dog did indeed have cancer, b/c in this person's words "If it were my dog I would just make him comfortable." Fast forward to my wife and I bringing the dog to a specialist who very quickly determined the dog did not have cancer, but rather a manageable, common ailment called "Cushing's Disease." Needless to say, as soon we received the specialist's second opinion, we indicated to the new Spring Hill vet practitioners we will never be bringing our pets to see them again. read more

Dr. Sholer hands down the best vet ever! We have been going since they opened. Since the new doctors took over we have gone back hoping it will be the same. The up front staff are great and wonderful people who I was happy to see on each visit. I am sad to say not 1 but 2 of our cats passed within a hour of bringing them home. After 2 visits each. Our last boy had a bad upper respiratory infection. He couldn't breath, the guy just gave him another shot of antibiotics and sent him home. He past within a hour of being home. Kerrie the receptionist is the rudest person I have ever dealt with at this vet office. You call to ask a question or to make an appointment and Kerrie hangs up on you before you even finish asking what you need or she'll get rude and tell you that she cant make your appointment cause you're calling the same day that you need to get in. You'll call again and get another receptionist and they are usually way better and can get you in. We went in to get shots for my dogs and as we were in line waiting to check out my dogs got excited to see another dog and humans so they started barking and Kerrie started yelling at us to get out of the building. Instead of asking nicely if we could step outside she's yelling at us from behind the counter and giving us dirty looks, that's no way to treat people coming into your business. After these experiences with Kerrie, you are losing a loyal customer that's been coming to your vet office for years. read more

I took my cat in once and the vet told me that he could order a prescription that would cost over $50.00 But he recommended I use an over the counter alternative that cost around me $2.00. We recently started using the Spring Hill Veterinary clinic. My husband and I felt that Rebecca(hope I remember correctly)the vet tech and Dr. Batchelder were very friendly and efficient. Our dog gets pretty squirmy for shots and they were very prepared for that. Rebecca held on and kept a cool head while Dr. Batchelder administered the vaccines. Rebecca was also very quick and practiced with the nail clipping. I was happy about the visit and the cost. I read the reviews and feel sad for people who have lost pets. Some day we will have to face that again but right now we have a healthy pet and we were pleased with the visit. read more

We have gone to Dr. Shelor for 30+ years, so the transition to a new Vet is something I was apprehensive about. We met Dr. Jon Batchelder when my pup was having allergy issues. He was very nice, helpful and gave me choices. He was kind to Molly (she's 10 years old and very nervous at the Vet) and very patient. We discussed the issues, he gave me choices and explained each one, answered questions from me and was so nice. Although there will never be another Dr. Shelor, I believe I'm going to be happy with Dr. Batchelder. The office staff is absolutely wonderful! Love those girls! read more

I have gone to this vet since 2002. I have taken 4 dogs there over the years. One was put down there after no other options to save her life were available. One was saved there and had a major surgery and had a 50/50 chance of survival and survived. All were under Dr Sheller. The BEST vet I had ever seen. He went through a lot with my pets and myself. Very difficult times. I had been referred there from friends and I have referred friends there. I would drive 48 miles one way just to get the wonderful treatment there. NOW since it has been sold I have been treated rude and rushed. The front desk staff (a lady that has been there one year) treated me terrible when I questioned the prices on annual shots. Got mouthy and rude with me and proceeded to tell me that when I was in in 2014 it was the same price. I have been a loyal customer of Spring Hill Veterinary and after that phone call I will never go back.I told her I will be switching Vets and she said "sorry to hear that" with nothing other than a rude tone and she could have cared less. I will make sure I tell all my friends that take their animals there to follow me and they most certainly will. Come to recall the last time I took my dog in for shots the new owner who is female ( I cannot remember her name) was rude and rushed with me.
