At night, there's no venue I'd rather choose for a concert! There's practically no bad seat in the house; unfortunately, there are a few seats directly behind pillars that do get sold as viable seats. Other than that, any seat in this rather intimate venue is worthwhile. I've had the privilege of seeing numerous shows here (Opry tapings, Carly Pearce, Brandon Lake, Vance Joy, etc.) and would recommend both ground and balcony level seating! Tonight, I saw the fifth annual Breland & Friends concert benefitting Oasis from balcony section 13, row A, seats 1-2 - and dare I say that's the best view I've had yet. Front row of the balcony seating, center stage, room to stretch legs - unbeatable! Service is solid at the Ryman - from ushers to guide you to your seats to bartenders serving food and drinks. Security tonight seemed patient and friendly, too, setting the stage for a great night ahead!

It's a decent Taxi/Uber ride out here (and back), with drop off and finding one to go back pretty easy. There are snacks and a gift shop here, but if you want to make it a dinner and a show, there are places nearby. Gayle and I, along with Erin and Jim attended the April 30 performance of Opry Country Classics. The Larry Gatlin (and Brothers) were the MCs, with the Opry band handling the backup music, and Charlie Mattos doing the folksy "Play by Play", all live on WSM (We Shield Millions) Radio. Performers were Janie Fricke, Hanna Dasher, Moe Bandy, and Daily and Vincent as the featured artist. It was a great show! We had a nice 4 seat pew near the front, the sight lines (direct and via screens) were clear, and the sound quality/mix was excellent. Daily and Vincent (with the guest banjo player) were fantastic and I've already preordered their next album. The only minor irritation was Hanna Dasher shamelessly promoting her cook book (Stand by Your Pan), but even that added to the high quality entertainment value of this show. The Grand Ole Opry has operated out of several venues, and since 1974, performances have been in the Grand Ole Opry House; previously, it was the Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville between 1943 to 1974. This year (2026) is a special year, as the Grand Ole Opry turns 100, and on February 28, 2026, there was a performance to celebrate 25 year anniversary of the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou?" The movie is well known for its soundtrack, and it introduced bluegrass music to a new generation. Performing were several artists from the soundtrack, such as Alison Krauss (my fifth time seeing her!), Emmylou Harris, Dan Tyminski, The Whites, The Fairfield Four, and the actor Tim Blake Nelson. There were also numerous other artists performing songs from the soundtrack such as Old Crow Medicine Show, Billy Strings, Sarah Jarosz, Molly Tuttle, Jerry Douglas, Stuart Duncan, and many, many more. Even though I didn't know most of the performers, I really enjoyed the show. After the performance, there was a Q&A with Tim Blake Nelson, Dan Tyminski, and Chris Thomas King. My boss flew in from Finland last night, and my two colleagues came in from ATL and Milwaukee today. So we walked back here for lunch. I decided to go to Steam Boys. Kathy was manning the front of the house today, so I looked over the menu and decided to order one beef bao, a bottle of Coke Zero, and the dry zha jang noodles. Big portions! Cucumbers, cilantro, got a medium spice, the noodles were overdone but with the sauce and amount of meat it was not the end of my world. Kathy helped me get situated with the food. I found a table on the bridge in between food halls. I ate almost the entire bowl, but stopped. The bao was simply perfect. Great texture, chewy but held up to the meat and sauce. Great place to go if you have many people with you, and nobody wants to choose one cuisine. Support the people working hard here!

Need less to say we continued inside. I'm no sure if this is handicap assessible as we walkeeld up a lil incline to steps. When entering we were looked at in a way that was not warming. The tasting started and it out of 5, only one did not have a nasty and strong hoppy/bitter after taste. The select were Passion fruit, Hippies and Cowboy, Southern Wit, Urban Hiker, and Wildwood. As we spent our time no one seem to as if we needed anything or if our selection were ok. We got some "why are you in here type" looks. I was not impressed by this brewery. I was struck by 4 things in particular: 1. The whole "Man in Black" prison theme. In particular there was the fact that future country music star Merle Haggard was an inmate at San Quentin State Prison when he watched Johnny Cash perform on New Year's Day, 1959. The concert inspired the 20-year-old Haggard to turn his life around, abandon his criminal path, and pursue a country music career upon his release in 1960. 2. The friendship and creative bond between Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan that bridged the worlds of country and folk music. Hence my purchase of Dylan's "Nashville Skyline" CD, including the "Girl from the North Country" Duet and Cash's linear notes on the Album. 3. "I Walk the Line" (the song) and the subsequent Vivian Liberto/June Carter-related dynamics. And of course, I would remain faithful despite the temptations of "fame" and life on the road (whenever that occurs). The movie was good too. 4. The "Hurt" Video. A "heartbeat-slow goodbye" touching on mortality, legacy, and regret. Wow!
