BEWARE of tip scamming! We ordered takeout from this place, and the host attempted to sneak in an extra 20% charge to our order while still expecting a tip beyond that amount. When my mom questioned the charge, she initially claimed it was a "takeout service charge" but quickly retracted and had her manager remove it. Afterward, the staff was unfriendly, and the manager even made her wait outside the restaurant for our order. To make matters worse, the food was subpar. I'm devastated to hear of their closing! I had quite a few friends working at this restaurant over the years and it's always a go-to spot to bring visiting family and friends. Even when I didn't know someone working there, the staff treats everyone well and it's a big reason why the community loves this place so much. I only have gotten to eat here one time and I was sad to hear they are closing like too many other placed due to crazy property tax increases. I usually like to eat at places a few times to give a better review but I won't be back to Nashville before they close. I'm used to awesome service in NOLA and Burger Up had really good service for a burger joint which I quickly learned this spot is a lot more than just a basic burger spot! I found the burger here to be one of the better burgers I've found in Nashville. My favorite burger is the thick burger patty style like we have in New Orleans and most Nashville burger spots have dissappointed me. Burger Up does have thicker burger patties just not quite as thick as the NOLA ones. The fries were cooked exactly like I want my fries to be! Overall this is a cool spot and they offer a lot of other nice looking food options besides burgers which sadly I won't get to sample any of that now. The ambiance of this spot and the 12 South neighborhood might get another place in this spot but with all the crazy taxes they might have to charge more than many people can pay to stay in business. I enjoy the 12 South area but it is so sad places that make 12 South the great neighborhood it has been seem to be getting driven out by the crazy taxes. We love burger up! It's right in the heart of 12 south and their food is tasty. We love the mini nuggets appetizer. Their baked potato soup is great and they usually have good specials coordinating with the season. We have sat on the patio which is nice & intimate but we also love sitting inside for the ambiance. read more

I was told I could and then was completely ignored passive aggressively when I said thank you to the girl. When I came out of the bathroom, both employees were talking about me and the guy actually yelled "you're not even gonna say thank you!" As I left, even though I had said thank you prior to using the bathroom. Blondie was sure to glare at me as I left. If it was an issue to use the bathroom, they could've said so instead of talking about me behind my back like children and telling me it was fine. Hospitality is not the industry for them. It takes communication skills and maturity neither one of them possessed. I've been to Burger Up a few times now over the years, and I feel pretty consistently about their food. It's me. You pay a lot for some really good items and others make you scratch your head. For example, I've had some really awesome soup and burgers from here. Then, the one time I decided to order a salad, it was an entire of what felt like a package of arugula and zero content for beets and pistachios. I asked for more substance, and the server was more than kind to get me more. However, for a $17 salad (my cousin bought us lunch), why was there none of this in there to begin with? The salad menu item touted being a winter salad, but I guess it was a mistake from the kitchen. Understanding this is 12South, pricing is a lot steeper than I'd care to pay for certain items. What is worth their costly mark up? Their sweet potato fries. Don't skip out on these. They're hands down delicious and worth every single penny paid. Burger Up used to be so good!!! But my visit with a friend this week has completely tainted my fond memories from years past. A friend and I went to Burger Up for lunch this past week and we split the fry flight, Woodstock Burger and a Cesar salad. The fry flight was the only redeemable thing about our meal unfortunately. The burger bun was soggy and the patty was so dry we ended up both taking the patty off and eating it with a fork. The Cesar salad was also so bad? How do you mess up a Cesar salad?? It's insanely expensive considering you get no protein and barely any cheese. The sun dried tomatoes are gross and something is off with whatever dressing they are using. It's supposed to come with bacon but we found quite literally two tiny specs of it in the entire salad.
