I've been golfing Deer Valley for many years, and I love it there - it's my "go to" course,…read moreespecially when I can't find a great deal on something else. First, Deer Valley is an affordable course. I love to golf, but can't afford to shell out top-shelf prices for a round. HOWEVER, Deer Valley isn't exactly a cheap "hacker's course". There's a wide variety of hole styles to keep your attention, highlighted by their signature par-3 #5 that takes you 120 yards out, but straight down to a soft green. The view is intimidating, but it's a hole you could shoot at for hours. Immediately after #5, you're challenged to drive over the rocky, steep face that you just came down. There are holes with blind tee shots over hills, hard dog-leg turns, and plenty of terrain to navigate. I haven't even mentioned hole #1 - a long par 5 up a big hill (and almost always into the wind). Once you get past that hole, the rest doesn't feel too bad. Deer Valley is extremely scenic with tee boxes overlooking vast valleys. In the fall, the colors are breathtaking. Being removed from the big city, it's one of the most peaceful courses I've been on. Keep an eye on your ball, but don't forget to take in the scenic views and watch for wildlife! It's beautiful there! The new "Valley" nine is nice, but I still like the Ridge and Prairie best. Valley is a little tighter and most of the holes run in, you guessed it, the valley... Definitely a course worth hitting. If you're a prude and want to be addressed as "Mister", have your clubs cleaned by some high school boy working for tips, go somewhere else. If you're looking for a course that is great bang for the buck, to hang out with some friends and have a great time - hit Deer Valley.

I was a bit concerned about playing on Labor Day getting behind holiday golfers, but that doesn't seem to be the case at this course. Our foursome played in four hours and 15 minutes. The quality of golfer there seems to be at the very least above average players. I think the layout of the course is fantastic, challenging and the course condition is very well kept. There are plenty of tee boxes and I would suggest you play from the yardage that is within your abilities. Get your sand game in order because even the better golfers may find a couple of traps. It was good to see Rangers patrolling the course and making sure their presence was known when they drove by They always said hello. If I lived in the area, this course would be near or at the top of my list.

Look no further, west-siders, here's a hidden gem! Westbrook Hills is found just a chuck west of Madison and is a great place to hit a quick round. No clubhouse, no staff, no tee times - you just show up, stuff your $10 in the "honor box" and away you go. Is it a perfect course? Nah - few are, really. It's a mix of par 3 and par 4 holes, so you can bash a few drivers during your round while tuning your irons. Being shorter (par 33), a round doesn't take all that long. WHY IS THIS COURSE GOOD? - great for new golfers - par 4s allow you to let the big dog eat a few times - no pressure, not complicated. Show up, pay, hit - easy to walk. (no carts available at the course) WHAT THIS COURSE ISN'T: - swanky or uptight - horribly complicated - expensive I like to hit a formal round of golf, usually. But sometimes you just want to get in a quick round before spending the rest of the day on yard work or something. This fills that need, and I'll be hitting this more often.

Dealing with the staff was easy (via phone or in person) - super friendly folks with all the answers to our questions. They have a nice little practice green, and a great driving range. The whole facility is well kept. The course is in really good shape. Probably the fastest greens I've played all season. We didn't notice many (any?) weeds. The greens were clean, and the immediate rough around greens and fairway were pretty decent. The layout is fairly basic - just par 3s and 4s (for the primary 9 at least - we didn't hit holes 10, 11 or 12). The most "character" you'll find is a picturesque tee shot over a mid-fairway fountain. No dog-legs are bends on this course - all straight shots. Along with straight shots - accuracy is required as most holes are pretty tight. There's not a lot of forgiveness if you're not in the fairway. You'll be in the woods, prairie grass or, on the more "open" holes, punching out from under a tree. I'd consider playing here again. Would I pay rack rate? Probably not when I could find a round at a full par-72 course for a couple more bucks. But getting a deal helps (see various golf deal websites) If I lived close, I'd consider a membership as it's fairly affordable for what you get.

Now as for the pizza apparently it takes the longest to finish. Which is crazy, but hey it looked good if you are willing to wait a hour. As for the service the waitress bless her heart needs to go to school and learn hospitality for real. I mean it was us and one other table and three college kids running the joint. Put nicely they need experience. Golfers moved in and out mostly drinking pretty average. The course looks well kept they definitely have a good grounds keeper. Needless to say come for the golf stay for the golf don't come for food. It's a golf course not a restaurant. ‍

There are a variety of holes, hazards, elevation changes, and slopes that makes for challenging golf for any level. The ratings for the restaurant should be separate from those for the course itself, with the latter likely being under-rated. For a smaller, and somewhat shorter, 9 hole course it offers up a nice outing!

The course is relatively flat, which makes it great for walking - except for the distance between some holes. Even while carting it can feel like a long haul from one green to the next tee box. I'm not sure if that could be rearranged or if they're just stuck with that layout. Either way, I tend to cart there. There is plenty of water on this course, and always where my ball wants to go! This is a very challenging course if you're not the straightest hitter. Most of the holes require some sort of control, so if your driver is erratic, you might want to put it in time-out and tee off with an iron. I've always found the greens and fairways in very good shape - the greens can run fast, so be prepared - try to stay below the hole if you have that kind of control. For some reason, it always seems to be windy when I'm golfing here. Perhaps that is because the course is so flat and in an open part of the county. Of course, the wind *always* wants to blow my shots into the water! LOL I've scored okay here, but generally feel like I'm struggling through the round. A lot of thought goes into which club you will hit. If the yardage says "7-iron", the wind might require you to hit a 6-iron so you don't fall short into water. This course really makes you think. The Meadows is a good test - if you feel like you're hitting well, come here to see if you really are. You won't find a lot of woods getting in your way, but the water makes up for that... I love the location in Waunakee - very convenient for many parts of the Madison area. I'd like to see them run some more deals. For the money, I'd rather play elsewhere, but I ccould be lured in with a nice weekday deal.

In my opinion this course is better than Trump National in Palos Verdes, California and Pelican Hills. There is not one negative comment from me. Greens were a little difficult, but I like the challenge, fairways are in excellent condition. Not a yellow spot or wet spot on the course. This course is a must play and needs to be on your bucket list to play. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Members; there should be no complaints. I hope you all know you have one of the best golf courses in the country.

They made sure our special day went smooth, they coordinated with the vendors and were there if anything went wrong. Aside from the wonderful coordinators at The Oaks, the venue itself is great! The tent is spacious enough yet still feels cozy and has a great relaxed atmosphere. Bathrooms are located inside the clubhouse, but not too far of a walk from the venue space. I would 100% recommend The Oaks as a place to have your wedding.
