I was in the Phoenix Center on New Year's Eve and spent $6 on a mixed drink and a shot for my sister. Although it was my mistake, I had forgotten to pick up my $14 in change. My sister left them a tip and I got distracted. When I left there, I realized there was only $3 in my wallet. I rarely go out, as I am a single mother and don't especially enjoy wasting money in the bar. I returned and explained this to the bartender who was the same guy that served me. He had reddish, short hair and facial hair. He was very rude, and I explained that I have worked as a server in the same type of establishment and that I know it was my fault. That being said, he still did not do as one is commonly encouraged to do in the hospitality industry, which is to follow the motto "the customer is always right" and to make them happy if you want them to return. I spoke with a very sweet bartender who was also working and she returned my money. I then saw her with her hands up, defensively, while they yelled at her. She said they were making her pay it out of her tip money. Appalled, I gave it to her and told her I appreciated her understanding and that she did the right thing. I cannot believe that they could be so rude to both her and I. I can recall countless occasions as a server where management would put that faith in the customer and make it right simply because that is what it's all about. I will not be returning, as my mixed drink was mostly ice anyway and the environment was just plain unfriendly and inconsiderate. Props to the nice lady behind the bar who displayed what a good server constitutes. ADIOS! read more
