Before coming to this shop I was doing some research and had called John and a few other businesses to inquire about engraving services that I needed for 6 gold compact mirrors I wanted to be personalized with names for my maid of honor, bridesmaids, and myself. I visited All Star Awards last Monday where John and I spent about 10 minutes discussing specific details such as font, size, and placement of the names, and pricing. However, I ended up leaving to my car to compare my options. I have never had anything personally engraved before and had no idea that coating and material of the product can affect the quality of the engraving, but I decided to take my chance with John because he was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain the process to me. On Friday that same week, he called me back and told me my mirrors were ready to be picked up! I was surprised at the quick turnover and I told John that I wanted to pick them up right after finishing work in the city at 4:00 because I'll be proposing to my MOH this weekend regardless of whether or not I receive the mirrors. However, I'd be arriving late due to traffic (He closes at 5pm and he's closed on the weekends). He told me not to worry and that he'll wait for me. I ended up leaving at 4:20 and driving there took about an hour. When I arrived, he presented me with the finished compact mirrors and they were exactly what I had envisioned!! They were so beautiful and I am so glad I decided to get one engraved for myself too! I recommend this business to anyone that needs a personalized gift and I'll definitely be coming back in the future to have more gifts engraved! Thank you so much, John!

I arrived at 11am to find a note on the door saying that I needed to call the owner, and that he would come. I did this, and he said he would arrive in 8 minutes. He did this, but it was annoying that they didn't open when they said they did. . . . Anyway, I ordered two plaques from him at a price I found expensive, but I didn't question it because of the good experience there I had had in the past. These were plaques made from college degrees, and he asked ME to send the materials out to the plaque manufacturer; he didn't do that himself. When the plaques arrived, the manufacturer left the invoice in the box by accident, and I didn't discover this until I got home. The bill was $275 less than I had paid! I understand that All Star needs to make its money, but when I called John about this, he became defensive and yelled at me, telling me that I could bring my plaques back to him and that he would call the manufacturer about the problem. He also told me that his cost estimates were based on old financial figures, and that he didn't really know how much things cost currently. This is all too bad; the quality of the plaques is excellent - but next time, I will go somewhere else; I recommend you do the same.

I called on a Tuesday asking if two medals I already had could be engraved and ready for a middle school graduation on Thursday. I was told yes and to come by. While Yelp says they close at five, the gentleman on the phone said he would be there until 10 pm (!!). Great! I arrived same day at 3:30 pm. I wrote down what I wanted and asked again if the medals would be ready considering the short notice /turn around time. He (don't know his name) said yes. He told me they would be ready within 24 hours, but to wait for his call. Wednesday came and went. No call. I called him. No response and the call went straight to voicemail. I called again. Same thing. Well, it's Thursday and the graduation is tonight. I called and no response. I called again. No response. I decided to drive over from Redwood City. I got there at 11 or so and the door was closed. The sign said open and I was there during business hours, but nothing. I just called at 1:35 and someone picked up! Yay! I asked if the medals are ready. He said let me check. Gets back on the phone and says they will be ready after 3:30. I explained that I didn't have time to do all of that, so were the awards finished or not. He admitted he hadn't started. I said, you know what? How about this? Don't start them. I will come by to pick them up from you tomorrow. Don't worry about it. And his response: PERFECT. ?! Odd and annoying all the way around.

When I called, Stephanie answered and was very polite. She patched me through to Cliff, who explained the difference between laser etching and engraving and provided a very reasonable quote. Upon arriving at Etched Media, I met Cliff, who graciously allowed my daughter and me to watch him work. It was a fascinating experience. I am so happy. I bought three stainless steel cuff bracelets off the Internet to give to my…read moredaughters as a gift for Valentine's Day. I wanted to make them special by getting them engraved with their names on each of the bracelets. I called Laser Mark's and I spoke to Jacob who let me know that the laser is flat and they may not be able to engrave a curved bracelet. However, he agreed to let me bring the bracelet cuffs into his shop so he could look at them to determine if it would be possible. He let me know that it may not work but he was willing to try engraving them. I told him that I was willing to risk it since the bracelets were inexpensive and I could purchase them again if it didn't turn out. I am so happy that I took the risk because the bracelets look so much better with the girls' names engraved on them and it makes the gifts more personal. Jacob took special care to put a black tape over the area on the bracelet that was to be engraved to test over the tape so I could see how the name would appear and give my approval before doing the actual engraving. It was a cool process and fun to participate in.
