My husband and I shopped at this particular Michael's in the Waterfront shopping center. No employees greeted or assisted us as we walked around the store, but we found what we wanted. The shelves were stocked full with merchandise, and the prices were reasonable. This store had a good selection of small paint brushes for my husband's hobby, and I liked the selection of Christmas decorations.

The first time I noticed this, I was using self checkout. She was pretending to clean a machine but also very obviously side eyeing me and looking over my personal cards? I get that theft might be something that happens here and Im sorry if It is, but her behavior makes me feel bad. The second time I went to pay, I ended up being short and I asked an employee to take an Item off. Shortly after the same lady busts out of the back room and stares daggers at me like Im trying to steal or something. Very weird woman. Other than that, good store.

THIS IS FOR SPIRIT CHRISTMAS!…read more it overwhelming smelled of cinnamon pine cones. There were a ton of interactive displays which my kids loved. They also got to mail a letter to Santa. I'm not sure what I was expecting but this was like a Christmas store and Spencer's had a child. The ugly sweaters were awesome!

But Spirit is not my first choice for Halloween costume shopping by any means. I do give the chain props for being able to put together so many functioning pop-up stores so quickly every year. But the products they offer just don't impress me that much. In my opinion, things tend to be unnecessarily overpriced given the quality of the products being sold. There isn't a ton of originality to be found, either, so if you're the creative type you may be disappointed by Spirit's offerings. Another big problem with Spirit - well, this Spirit - is the lack of organization. There wasn't any overhead labeling that I or my partner could see, so we literally walked through the entire store to figure out what was available. Not only is this inconvenient, but considering how some people like to include sex(y) elements in their Halloween costume, this could be bothersome at best for some people. Case in point: there was a costume entitled "Skeleboner" (which I am NOT posting the picture for) hanging in a row of other ridiculous "sexy" themed costumes. No labels, no warnings, no nothing to let shoppers know "hey the risqué costumes are hanging up here". And this is in a store full of kids costumes, so it's not unreasonable to imagine a kid running down that aisle without supervision. Just, ew. So again, meh. Spirit Halloween will get the job done in a pinch, but their store layout needs some work to make shopping easier. Plus their merchandise is pretty average at best (and frankly, offensive at worst). It's worth taking the time to find alternative purchases if you can.

They set up makeshift shops and lure you in with their above department stores assortments. I usually don't buy things from these places since they are so overpriced but sometimes you just need something for your costume that you can't make or buy second hand. This year we were in need of masks. Since we were portraying specific characters not just any mask would do. I found what we needed here, and though overpriced they were comparable to what I found online and more convenient to just pick up. Some interesting facts. They do not accept returns past a certain date. And when they do accept returns I am pretty sure the receipt said for store credit only. If you do stop in during the haunting season and want to buy more than one item I have a helpful hint. I purchased two masks and a fake machete. Upon checkout the clerk asks for my email to send me coupons. Within minutes I had coupons for 25% off next purchase. I was consistently emailed over the following weeks promoting different deals. So for next year, buy that one item. Then get that coupon and return to buy the other at the nicely discounted rate. Depending on what you buy that could add up to a decent savings.
