Eide's Entertainment's hallway

What a great place. Been here several times over the years. First off it's huge.....four floors in total. The shop is loaded with new Comic Books, old Comic Books , Magazines, hard to find DVDS, CDS, Rock n Roll memorabilia and lots of other goodies. I picked up a great 1/6 scale fully articulated Green Lantern figure which I had never scene before. This place has been open a long time and I highly recommend this place when you visit Pittsburgh

We were walking through the city, on our way somewhere else when we noticed Eide's. Anything entertainment-related will stop my fiancé in his tracks and bring him into the store. Even though I'm not much of a comic book/collector person, I don't mind browsing so we decided to check it out. The selection is pretty impressive. DVDs, VHS, video games, comics, figures... You want it, they probably have it. They also had vintage/antique shelves too. Everything was pretty dirt cheap too, so it seems like you're getting a pretty good deal for what it's worth. This is a cool store to check out if that's the kind of stuff you're into.

I remember coming to Eide's somewhat often when I lived in Pittsburgh. I remember it having a slight reputation for having, maybe, not the nicest of staff or the most helpful, but I still went because this place had so much to offer that, in the event that I had a bad customer service experience (which I didn't), it didn't matter because I found something amazing. On a recent trip back home I knew I wanted to stop there and see what it was like now; had they gotten things I just needed to pack in my carry-on bag ( I was praying so). Now, if you are new to Eide's, know this: it's freaking enormous. It's like a department store for pretty much everything entertainment related; from movies, books, vinyl, toys, comics, and on and on and on. You can't just rush in and out here. You've got to take your time and look. Like thrifting for that perfect retro shirt. You've got to put in time before you strike gold. The main floor where you enter has their current cd's, some vinyl and old magazines like Rolling Stone. One thing to keep in mind: each floor is separate, you'll need to leave your bag each time you enter a new floor. The way I've always done it- not sure if it's right but, if I buy something on one floor, it doesn't go to one checkout- you pay at that specific floor which I think is what they want. Only downside is that you're making a bunch of transactions instead of just one, but whatever honestly. If you have the money in your account I suppose it's not an issue? Ok, anyway... The basement floor would be where the comics are and some various toy ranging from new to retro, this also applies to the comics as well. The top floor has collectible vinyl, dvds, some VHS as well and an adult section. Below the top floor has a large selection of used CD's. Each floor I was greeted by a separate employee. Everyone was friendly, helpful and seemingly happy to wait on me. I didn't need much assistance, but I was offered by a few employees. It was nice. The vibe here was laidback and chill. I didn't feel any pressure to buy anything or like I was being pressured to leave because I didn't have anything in my hand. In the end, I found a used CD and a vinyl record- both in great condition. I left a happy customer and every time I'm back home, I'm stopping at Eide's to pick myself up a treat because I know they'll have something I need or want.

The sign on the door.

This comic book store is nothing short of mythical. I'm not joking. I've been to a LOT of comic book stores in my life. They are generally awesome places, as they are full of the best kinds of people on the whole, that being people who read comics. I would say 2% of comic book stores are even "bad" and even then... They're trying to get better. Then, 95% is "a really good comic book store". But this place. THIS PLACE. This is exactly my basement, except 2000% larger. It's the last 3% ... This place, is LEGENDARY. There might be a million comics in here. AND they have vinyl, video games, action figures, DVDs, VHS, in every cool genre and geeky niche. The people who run it are friendly, conversational, self-deprecating & funny, and they love this place. Everyone should go, even if you don't read or buy comics. Go talk to someone there, tell them what you're into, and let them pick out your perfect book. If you know me, I'm a Philadelphian through and through...I can pass on almost everything Pittsburgh. This place however, makes me actually, honestly, jealous.

Ok, so this is the "liberal" paper of Pittsburgh, eh?…read more Well you do have Tony Norman, who's a progressive and a comics fan, which is pretty cool by me even though he's also a bit of an Obamabot. Vote 3rd party and get back to me, ok Tony? Then there's Rob Rogers, one of the most incisive political cartoonists on the scene. Maureen Dowd is a mildly liberal bore. Reg Henry is milquetoast. Ruth Ann Daily is the daughter of Phyllis Schafly, Ann Coulter-lite, or an aspiring Stepford Wife. I can't figure her out. George Will. Ugh. Scott Mervis doesn't get the metal, but at least he's not Ed Masley who should be strapped to a pentagram and set ablaze for his clueless (fear-ridden?) derision of the music. Allison Romero has written a few good metal articles though, so maybe someone read my emails. Oh, Mervis' top guitarists list? A joke. Rob Owen's TV column is pretty good even though I don't always share his tastes. He reminds me somewhat of Robert Bianco who has long since moved on to USA Today. I used to love when he'd skewer popular shows I despised. "Seen" makes me want to smash an ice sculpture up with a hammer and put it chunks of it through the windows of mansions. Do we need to have sheer privilege rubbed in our noses? Who really needs to know about what fun old moneybags are having when The Great Depression has never ended? The local news articles are pretty good though. Sadie Gurman busts her ass! I met her once at a picnic. I got her card. Nice girl. Never called her though. The Post-Gazette's a decent paper, but then again I'm a socialist, so I'm hard to please when it comes to the news media.

I then called to get the problem resolved and got that ubiquitous all representatives being busy so I sent them an email stating that if this problem wasn't fixed by the end of the day, I want my canceled and my money which they ignored. The next morning I responded to an unrelated email, letting them know customer service was useless and within 10 I received four identical emails telling me what to do what I had already done with no success. The next morning I called and got a voicemail and I left a message stating that I was fed up and wanted my canceled and my money refunded. Later on that day, I received another email stating that my was canceled and no further charges would be applied to my credit card and I replied that this is what I requested, but I am not paying the charge they put on my credit card for a I could not access this whole process took two days, three phone calls and exchanges and took up over an hour of my time when it should've taken less than five minutes and if somebody would have just responded and fix the problem, I would not be writing this right now.

Burgatory-best burger...lol! The Clarks and Joe Grusheky as 1 and 2 Best Rock performance... what a joke. Who did you ask about these "Best of", your 55 year old yinzer uncle? Your Aunt Peg? On another note, Twelve Whiskey BBQ kicks the shit out of all the BBQ joints on their list.

His sexual orientation doesn't bug me (Rob Halford and Freddie Mercury are among my heroes), but it's ALL he's about. The man was for the bombing of Iraq simply because he thinks Arabs are all homophobes! He epitomizes "liberal" elitism (he censored a radical friend of mine in a Seattle newspaper he worked for called The Stranger, long story). I prefer radical populism. Put that in yer latte and sip on it. 2-They try WAY too hard to be hip and edgy. Maybe it's because hipsters annoy me since their whole existence is one long fashion statement and because you can never tell what their true interests or convictions are, not to mention that they're all spoiled, rich white kids. Please don't get me started on those people. Anyway, this magazine panders to them way too much. It's almost laughable, really. Irony is not the alpha and omega of life, ok? 3-They assume everyone reading has or is pursuing a Master's degree. 4-The back pages are pure SLEAZE! I always flip past those sex ads. Gimme a break! I don't want an escort or a massage! I couldn't care less about alternative lifestyles! On the other hand, what other Pittsburgh paper has articles about the POG/Thomas Merton Center schism, local mountaintop removal activists, Lawrenceville residents using alternative fuels that actually work, lesbian boxers, prisoners serving life terms, suburban sprawl, environmental racism in the Hill District, renewal efforts in neighborhoods like Hazelwood, and gentrification among many other issues? They don't urinate on or ignore comic books and heavy metal music either. It was through The City Paper that I discovered "Street Angel" from local comics creators Jim Rugg and Brian Maruca and Pittsburgh metal acts like Hero Destroyed, Storm King, Mantic Ritual, Lady Beast, and Magic Wolf. As someone with a minor interest in astrology (I'm an Aquarian if you didn't figure that out already), I think they have the best astrology column around. I often flip to that section first. Ok, I lied. What I actually do first is turn the paper over to the back cover to see if there's a hot chick in an American Apparel ad. Their food critic duo is pretty good as well. I especially applaud them for venturing beyond the East End. We do have good food in the South Hills. Don't be skeered to come aht 'ere. So they have a fine periodical. I'd just like to see a little bit more of a populist slant from them.

This same reporter interviewed me in 2023 when I rented an office for my hypnosis business in the Murphy Building in Tarentum . The article made the paper. The article was all about why I chose to try to do my hypnosis at the theater . It was not an advertisement. He's a good reporter and he asked the questions . It was a good interview. The theater manager who is permitting me to do these sessions was there answering questions. A photographer was there taking many photos . There was no reason to believe it would be rejected. Of course, I never saw the completed work of the reporter. I asked K.S. to tell me who made this decision . I asked him to explain how many other "articles " on other businesses were in the trib.
