I used to really like this store. Ammo and clothing have no issues, the gun counter though, another story. Plan out an hour or two just too wait to be shown any firearms (if your lucky enough). I waited around for 10 mins to look at a couple rifles, then was told I had to sign in on a digital queue, no problem. After waiting almost 40 mins another gentleman walks right up to the counter and asks to look at rifles and instead of telling him about the queue, the woman behind the counter immediately started showing him rifles completely ignoring us after we had been standing there for now 50 mins. Buy your guns elsewhere. Only plus side was they have a good selection of ammunition at decent prices. read more

I asked 2 different people for help in fishing, the second person said they would send help from ammo department. I heard her call someone over intercom to help in fishing. I waited and watched 3 people at ammo counter help one guy, including the person I asked for help in the first place. Not one of them even looked over at the fishing department, I was right there looking and waiting. I have 3 grandsons I was buying for, I was going to spend big money. If I could give this store a negative number I would. The service is horrible towards people that of color. Went to pick up a laser finder walked around for a little bit with a friend since we don't have a sportsmen's warehouse where we live. And was hassled for it we walked up to the gun counter to ask a question. Then was immediately asked what we were doing their and if we were done walking around the store in his words we were taking to long to look. Customer service in the back of the store is ridiculous. I stood in front of the back counter to buy ammo for 10 min on 12/9/25. The same person walked by me twice (they were behind the counter), said nothing to me (was a young lady). Two other gentlemen were helping guests. One finished, walked by me, said nothing and went to the back. The other guy was still helping someone. None of the three of them acknowledged me... I walked out and drove to Turners in Tulare.... I called the manager and told him my circumstance. He was very friendly. Today I came back... it's 12/19/25. I'm standing in the ammo line for 28 minutes now.... I went in earlier this week to look at getting my son's bow worked on. When I asked about it, the person I spoke to went through the schedule and identified that the Archery person would be in on Friday at 11 AM. When I showed up at 11:21 AM, I was informed that that person hasn't worked there in a while. They were polite and said I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what to believe. When I told them that the person I spoke to went through the schedule with me to find out when the person would be in, she didn't have anything to say. It makes it difficult to want to come here for any service. now I have to go home and tell my son that the thing he's been waiting for for a couple weeks is now further delayed because we were told misinformation. read more

Where to start...I've bought a bow at this location, made an appointment which apparently means nothing here as I still waiting 2 hours just to be told the expert was not working today!!! Ok, schedule mistake right, no worries. Bought a rifle and scope, was told they would mount scope free of charge. This was in October; I have been hung up on 3 times after being placed on hold 10+ minutes each time. im trying to be nice but im just furious right now. went into our local visalia store to refund a $50 purchase that i made over 10 days ago. waited 30 minutes at the gun counter watching 1 single elderly man with zero knowledge try to help 30 people. yes there were 30 because i counted all of us! yes, the man was not knowledgeable because he had to keep looking for another co worker to help him figure things out. after the 30 minute mark , i got on my phone to call the manager of the store to get some help in the gun dept. she told me that depended on who was available that had the knowledge to be in the gun dept. well it certainly wasnt that 1 elderly man with the knowledge. when they finally got extra people back there, i was finally helped only to have a hang up with the elderly gentleman that had to keep pausing and asking how to refund my $50! my complaint is not the elderly person with no knowledge trying to handle everyone himself. im wondering why in the hell a retail establishment in the business of making money during a busy holiday season has absolutely zero knowledgble staff attending the one dept that brings in the most money for the store!!?? there were 30 customers standing around waiting to spend money. are you trying to run your business into the ground because it certainly seems that way. my experience in your store today was probably the worst example of customer service ive ever seen. read more

Would have been 5 stars if not for Ethan at the gun counter. He was rude and short and the exact opposite of helpful. Even saw him being rude to other employees. This wasn't a one off as I was here 3 different times. Fortunately the other guy that helped me (Gary I think) was pleasant and helpful. And then a younger guy (Alex I believe) who was covering from the Fresno office was fantastic. Super helpful and offered service. I would expect better from Ethan considering I spent $2500. The wait in the guns & ammo department was so long and disorganized that customers started getting into arguments over placement since the ticket system wasn't being used...eventually we gave up and left with our purchasing anything. Made getting fishing licenses for us a breeze! I honestly just wanted to go get food/go home/ & ended up spending some time in there because of how Nice & welcoming the entire staff was. Zero rating. This place changes firearms requirements every time I've been in there. First time I went in was told I needed a California ID. Got that, Then I was told I needed 2 utility bills. Go back with all needed paperwork then get told I brought the wrong utility bills. I brought a SCE and Gas company bill. They needed a water bill and a trash bill and they refuse to sell me a gun. I do not get those bills as my place pays my water and trash with the rent. How about a Car Insurance and a Car Registration ? Nope. But then get told a Fishing license will work. Sorry I don't fish. Thinking of this fishing license, No ID is needed to get a fishing license, so why would a fishing license come into play here is beyond me. I also have the Handgun Safety Certificate which I showed. So I left and canceled my Company Credit Card with them and will never step foot in that place again. Just so other's know, This was on the company's ballon day. Getting there at 6am to wait in line for 2 hours. Get my coupon and another coupon for being a member. plus I had another coupon from a raffle that a local gun shooting range offered as bonus to buy said raffle. A week later I tried to contact the company at the number given and was told I would get a call back. Waited 5 days and no returned call. Called again, No return call after another 4 days. I left a email and was told to leave another email about what happen. If they were so concerned about my review then why not return my call after two attempts ? Then wanting me to type what happen in email ? I replied to them they could read my review here on yelp. All in all, it just looks like a smoke screen to show others they care about customer service when in fact they could care less. read more

To Visalia Sportsman Warehouse Guns and Ammo Department; I have to say that this is my new favorite store! I love coming here even if I don't plan on buying anything! I love the people who work here because they make you feel welcomed. I first came here back in October of 2022 looking to buy a Glock 19. I had the privilege to be helped by Ethan and couple of other employees. All I can say is wow. Ethan has to be one of the nicest persons I've ever met! He is so kind and talkative and very knowledgeable on guns and ammo. He went above and beyond to satisfy my interest. From optics, to ammo, to viewing different handguns, to helping me through my purchase, everything. Then there is Michael who is an older gentleman who is also very educated and kind. I should've wrote this review last year but I forgot so I'm making it up for yesterdays visit where Ethan once again, did an amazing job to just talking to me and giving advice and showcasing items that I had interest. Trust me, this is the store you want to stop at to get the best service and best deals in ammunition and on firearms! I will definitely be doing all my business here! Edit: So Sportsman's Customer service was good and helped me get in contact with the manager of the store, Ray. Unfortunately there was no way to get the firearm I had originally purchased, so they gave me a slight discount on a different firearm. While that was nice of them and all, to be frank, I wasn't in an urgent need or want to purchase. The only reason I had originally ordered the firearm I wanted was that it was too good of a price to pass. So I ended up giving them more money for something I didn't quite need at the time. In the end, the result really wasn't to my favor - Sportsman's doesn't really lose out much of anything as they made an even bigger profit from the sale. The staff that helped me the second time around, Ray the manager, Ken, and Parker, were all very friendly. -- Not writing on the wait times, since that's out of their control during a pandemic and election year. Tried to purchase a firearm, I've done all my change of address to my CA paperwork, had the DMV printout verifying my name, license number, and address, updated VOTER REGISTRATION CARD, multiple utilities with current residence. I came by twice. First time, they said they want my lease agreement also. Fine. I came back again two days later with it. And they still said no. Even though all proper paperwork and steps were done to show my address was properly changed. That's quite unfortunate. Most of the staff are very friendly, including the FFL i was working with, but some random other snarky FFL came by thinking he'd help and just made snide comments on why it's not valid. Even though the CA DOJ website rules on firearm transfers say otherwise. That's pretty ridiculous. read more

Even when I presented all requested documents, the employee made me drive back an forth 3 separate times, and finally said he couldn't help me anymore. I then politely requested to be reimbursed and took my business elsewhere. Great products, poor service by this employee. Well, after driving over 150 miles for 3ish hours and waited an hour in line to pick up a firearm that was 4 days late. I just got booted home and informed that I will not be helped because it is past 3PM and they want to close on-time at 6PM. So, if you are picking up a firearm here, better come early and good luck! I went in there to inquire about a rifle the man behind the counter was rude and not at all friendly. No advice was offered! Yesterday looking for a honda out board dealer and asked if they had a place to get repairs done. Was transferred and then hung up on. Why would anyone buy an outboard motor from a place that has no place to service them. I found a place in Bakersfield and took my motor there. I talked to a guy the day before and he was there when I got there. He knew what I wanted they are located Aco st or something like that. They have RVs and boats there. Been to this place twice since they opened. Don't know how much longer they will stay open with service like this. First trip was for my wife's firearm purchase and that was a whole ordeal in itself, from paperwork errors, to hours of waiting, but staff was trying, and were sympathetic and still learning the ropes I guess. Today was a different story. After waiting 20 minutes for an associate to not hang up "by accident," over the phone, I just decided to come in. Figured out why the wait was so bad on the phone, because the only 2 employees are in guns, and we literally wandered aimlessly until asking the cashier in the front of the store for help. She walked us to guns, where we would be instructed by a not so nice associate to wait. After 10 minutes, he asked if I knew exactly what I wanted. "Well, I'd like the case we're looking in unlocked to decide." His response, "It's going to be a while then." I asked if he could give me an idea, as to how long, he rudely said No. I told him nevermind, I'll go to a sporting goods store I can get help instead. Never again. read more

Worst customer service! I do not reside in Visalia and for not being local, I did not the expect the customer service I received. The cashier Stacy was rude! I was at a register and there was no one in the register's at the time so I walked up to a random register and there was another customer at another register but he saw that we were there first waiting, so Stacy proceeds to walk towards the registers to ring up the customer that got their after us and he mentions that we were there first and her responds was "well I'm not at that register" and turns around and starts scanning and the customer tells us you can go ahead in front and she did not care that he said that she continues scanning his stuff and we said no it's okay. So unprofessional of her part. so we walk over to get in line to get ring up and she just stands there no greeting or nothing! This kind of personal is not needed. Buying a gun is a slow process when it comes to the paperwork, these guys have to be painfully thorough, it not a 7-11 so be prepared to wait until its your turn. First time shopping at a sportsman warehouse. I read the reviews (which were mostly bad), but I needed some good quality gloves. Every single staff member I ran into greeted me with a warm smile and asked if I needed any assistance. I ended up buying some camping gear, which one of the sales guys recommended. I'm not an easy person to sell to, but he was able to tell me about the product, how it worked, and showed me all the parts. I was thoroughly impress with everyone. Wish I got the guys name, if you sold two difficult people a jetboil coffee maker you're great!! Even the cashier was warm, friendly, and sweet. Great place, great people! read more

Where to start. Let's start with the worker Scott who is at the gun counter. This guy literally hates his job. Being a customer is an inconvenience to his job. To get help from him comes with a long sigh and dredge expression that kills your experience. When you order a gun online, they don't tell you that the waiting period only starts after you come in to start it. Not from when you order it or from when it comes into the store.
