Steer clear. Awful place. Rude staff. Food is stale. Cleanliness absent in shower areas.

I and my missus were using this gym for more than a year and this is the best gym I've been to…read more Equipment, infrastructure, crowd and price wise, best I could name in Dublin. Westwood gym asks (approximately) €600 per year + membership joining fee of €100 (used to be back in 2011). Where Northwood was €250 per year + 2 or 4 months for free. Northwood gave us small towels and their branded sports bags. Isn't that grate? Yes it is (I should stop talking to myself) :) ! This gym is quite newly built. Very spacious. Guess what? No kids, well, very little if none. We were in Total Fitness once and my missus was shocked... Loads of kids of six seven years old with bloody mommies in the ladies changing rooms... Kill me now :) Gyms has lots of stuff: more than basic equipment, various classes, men and women have separate "warm up" areas with different equipment, two saunas, two steam rooms, 25 meter pool, jacuzzis (lying and sitting). I'll be going there when possible!

Having been at the Jervis St branch of Ben Dunne's gyms I find these one to be way better…read more The staff are the same type, and the equipment may be a little older but the selection of equipment you have to choose your torture from far out weighs Jervis. Yes there are all the same weight lifting stuff if you are in to that sort of thing, but there are more types of cross trainers, muscle builders and the likes. There are classes in Aerobics, Abs, Pilates, etc held in there 2 studios.... And they are all FREE! And for the best part, after you have killed all your muscles you can then proceed to the Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and swimming pool. I don't go near swimming pools but it looks pretty ordered if you want to swim in lanes or just random paddling. Jervis has all you need for a gym workout but Northwood is far superior with the added bonuses.

Well whats not to like a 24 hour gym. No excuses now as its open and ready all the time. Great…read moreselection of machines on offer and huge weights area. I myself love the place. Treadmills are great as u can charge any phone off them as u run. Same with spin bikes. The price well 29.99 and 25 euro regiatration fee i tink its a no brainer. I go 5 days a week and a lot of classes are.included which u can view online and book at anytime. Also rewards for sigining up ur mates tshirts bags etc. Does not hav a pool.or sauna but hey its got everything else . The locker rooms are big and clean and the staff are good help. Critisims i have some. Firstly i joined up online and went the next day however it did not say ur card wud take 24 hours to activate. Also u do need to ask to be shown all.the machines. Also the lockers do close from 11 til 5:30 am and u can use the disabled toillets and showers. Biggest issue with this gym is u have to pick the best time.between 5 and 8 pm i wudnt dare go near it spin class excercise.boxercise trx u cant move in the place and theres not enough free weights or machines on the first floor. Early.morning or late night is best after 9 the place empties. Their online team are very quick to respond and any machines that are broke are usually fixed the nxt day any worn leathers on machines are also replaced quickly. But biggest problem.is not the gyms problem but people leaving weights all over the place so please if u join put ur weights back after u. Having an elevator is also great for leg day haha.

Caution, only PULL review…read more This is my Go-To swimming pool with my 3 year old. The good: * Changing area (cabins) has been fully rebuilt * Staff is great, they let children play and have fun (not like in Fantasia where my 16 year old bother had been asked to leave the small six people jacuzzi (how stupid is that?) * They have slides open every 45 minutes or so (during weekends only) * Very warm showers, almost like Japanese baths * There's sauna * Toddler's pull area * The price €7 per adult and kids under 3 years are for free then it's €4 * Plenty of lockers that are at the pull area, so if you need anything to grab, it's right there (just have your own padlock) * Underground car park (€1 token, unlimited stay) * Vending machines with swimming gear * Spectator area that is accessible without paying for the entrance The bad: * Slides are open only during weekend This is how good it is. Pull is clean, kids and parents are all friendly.

This pool is quite good in that they do lessons for children and are not atrociously over-priced…read morebut often there will be up to 5 or 6 different lessons going on at the same time so can be a bit mayhem at times! Also if you're coming along for a private swim try to come after the lessons are over because although there is a lane for private swimming it is often full up of other children and mums and dads so no lane swimming is possible at that time. The sauna and steamroom are ok but again can be quite busy and full of people waiting for the children to leave. But on a day when you go with no lessons its quite a nice pool and much better than the old dark pongy pool that used to be the Ballymun swimming pool by the old shopping center. The changing room is all unisex and smells quite badly whenever I'm there and the toilets need cleaning more regularly.

The only issue I would have is that the jacussi is never hot enough and chlorine smelling. Other than that I love that the gym is never overrun with kids, too many bodies and has welcoming decor.

Was told today that the towel service is being withdrawn as of tomorrow. Such a very disappointing…read moreservice. The staff and management within the gym itself remain exceptional. Hotel/hotel group management practice the most awful customer service. I raised these issues with senior management by e-mail weeks ago and was told he would take my comments on board. I doubt he even read what I sent. I think that it shows a complete lack of respect for the customer to not deal with complaints adequately and not to listen. I had an issue with Virgin Atlantic once regarding a flight and the response was speedy and apologetic. I would fly with them again in an instant and recommend them to friends. The Regency hotel group management obviously don't care and really don't deserve your money or my recommendation. The thing that makes it a difficult review is that the staff and management within the gym are really excellent and so friendly (they learn your name!). They deserve to keep their jobs so hopefully the gym membership will remain large enough. The hotel management could learn from them.

What can I say? They grew on me! The first time I went in I met someone no longer working there…read morewho gave a bad impression. The experience I had with David was in stark contrast and absolutely fantastic. My consultation was unhurried and in depth. He picked up on a few weaknesses and gave great nutritional and lifestyle advice. My training session a week later was fun! The programme I was given was entirely personalised to me. It was the opposite to a "cookie cutter" programme that you see handed out in many gyms or in books. I was given exercises that specifically addressed my personal issues and were part physical therapy, part training. They were adapted to suit me as we went along and modifications suggested. I left feeling enthusiastic and with a new confidence in my abilities! I love it that they are so contactable-I was able to email David afterwards with questions and they are very active on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dublin-Ireland/The-Edge-Clontarf/114810641871232) and Twitter (@TheEdgeClontarf) where they post videos and give advice. They really do care about their clients and get genuinely excited when they achieve goals. They're like the ultimate cheer squad! People who put the personal into personal training and actually care about their clients. Win! P.S: Forgot to mention: they're annoyingly accurate in their body fat testing too. I've had a couple of body composition Dexa scans at different levels so I kind of have a vague idea what level I'm at myself. I'd estimate that Dave was pretty much bang on. Dexa is increasingly seen as the gold standard (i.e. best) test these days so they probably get to add "gold standard fingers" to their list of attributes. Has a certain ring to it I think!
