This is the most flagrantly deliberately dishonest company I have ever encountered in my lifetime. They have two sides: the side that runs sports leagues but has no customer service and couldn't care less, doesn't even care to pretend, then they have the flagrant scam side, where they string you along saying they're "sending you a refund" if you're league was cancelled, when they're not, they're just hoping that you will forget and many people do indeed forget, then they only refund the squeakiest of the wheels. If you made the unfortunate mistake of giving them your money, just call Visa or Mastercard and have the payment reversed. SportsMonster didn't even follow the health department rules during the covid pandemic. During the summer of 2020 they had Kickball teams at Goodale park playing multiple other teams on the same day, despite the Columbus Health Department explicitly saying that sports teams could play the same team twice, but cannot play more than one team in 24 hours, to reduce possible covid spread, mean-while every other sports league in Columbus followed the health department rules. Sports Monster is an absolute joke, not even worthy of one star! I find it humorous that they have employees trying to boost reviews because of how horrible they are...like "Katherine D", who I am assuming is Katy Doughty that runs the soccer league (look at the review, haha!). And Kenneth R. who is a league manager with them. Because of knowing this, I am doubting any of the positive reviews that appear. I played kickball and soccer with Sports Monster (the soccer was free so why not?). I paid for kickball and it was such a disaster! I read the reviews but took a chance because it fell within my schedule...what a mistake! The league does not work with you and will unlikely return your phone calls or emails if an issue arises. I will most like be speaking with an attorney it was THAT BAD. I heard that Play Mile High is good for kickball but I have not tried them yet. Soccer was okay but ZogSports is wayyy better! So I play in a floor hockey league through these guys that has actually been decent for the last couple years. But this review specifically deals with a volleyball league. I did a summer session that was great, no hitches. But as soon as the fall session came around everything fell apart. Week 1 was canceled because of weather, but SportsMonster failed to notify anyone until the games were actually supposed to start -- well into gametime they had not updated the so-called "weather box" they have on their front page. That's a half-strike. Week 2 rolls around, and no ref showed up. No games could be played because there were no nets, and no ref to record scores and report them back to the league. Week 3, SM insists they've fixed it, and while being very nice to me via email, were pretty rude to our team captain via phone. They didn't have much concern for our issues, and their only concern seemed to be that they were aware of the issue, and were surprised we weren't satisfied with that. Buuuuut no ref showed up, again. No games can be played. Week 4, weather issues -- they reported this cancelation with ample time, without issue. Shortly after they alerted us to the fact that they were scheduling a Sunday pair of games to make up for lost time. Normally that's okay, but we lost two weeks because of their incompetence, not just because of weather. At this point We told them that since the Sunday game was scheduled with about 5 days notice, and none of us could make it, that in light of all the other issues, we were going to be unable to play and they needed to refund our team captain the money. They outright refused, and refused to acknowledge that refs didn't show up two weeks in a row. This is not what a coed sports league should be. They are uncompromising, their service is less than adequate, and uncooperative. I understand the necessity of keeping revenue, but this is a pretty ridiculous series of events, and it's better for you and your customers to just refund them, and work something out again, rather than forcing them into something they can't even do (largely because of their own screw ups) and pretty much ensuring we'll never come back to Sportsmonster. I'm not trying to throw the individuals there under the bus, they're probably doing the best they can -- it's not like they like this or it's easy -- but someone in SM corporate needs to take responsibility and either fix their organization, or leave it to individuals who are more caring and more capable about organizing fun, coed sports leagues in our cities. read more

SPORTS MONSTER SUCKS. THEY EFFECTIVELY STEAL YOUR MONEY. You can't give negative stars but I wish you could. Let me tell you about my experiences with Sports Monster. You sign up on their website and then you hear nothing until the week before your league starts up. So whether your credit card was charged and you should look for another league is a total mystery. They never have enough players so when you sign up for a rec league you end up with a lot of competitive level players in your league, and I imagine that if you were looking for a competitive experience that the gobs of rec players playing would be an irritant as well. The locations that Sports Monster expects you to play in are some of the worst in Colorado. Their softball fields are at 6th and Federal. Not exactly the sweetest location at dusk. Their basketball court is up at 38th and Fox. If you ask to be placed on a team, you will either struggle to complete games each week because they couldn't find any, or they will stick all their free agents on one team and you will sit waiting for playing time. It's like there is no balance whatsoever. They also charge varying prices from what they show on the website and what you eventually see on your credit card statement. So be careful there. Denver has a LOT of good recreational district leagues, there is no reason to waste your money on Sports Monster when you can play at legit places near your home for half the money. read more

I played in a team (soccer/football) in a sportsmonster league for a few years at DSGP. In the end, the ineptitude of Sportsmonster was enough to drive me away. Poor organisation (I once drove out there to find the fields closed - no warning or notice from sportsmonster and no officials there to tell the confused players turning up why the place was closed), terrible officials, some of whom barely understand the game they're refereeing and a team that just doesn't care (Good luck emailing Zach at sportsmonster to ask why something went wrong, he doesn't even respond). Consider that you're paying $60-$85 per person for a 10 week season and you might wonder what they're doing with all the money. The referees are the real lowlight, I once witnessed a coed team concede due to lack of players, both teams agreed to play out a game anyway (as the pitch was booked), the referees, who are paid to referee there, refused to officiate the game. They stood beside the field and talked instead. In summary, an awful customer unfriendly organization , avoid like the plague. read more

Signed up to play in a summer softball league and at first glance, everything seemed to be okay. The organization of the league was acceptable, the field choice could have been better but that's not always within someone's direct control. When signing up in the first place, I was expressly told that my league fees were $55 (which for a 7 game softball league is already on the higher side). After the season was completed, my credit card was then charged $62 without any sort of explanation. After asking why I was charged a different amount of money that was previously agreed upon, I was simply told, "Sorry, it looks like it was a simple mistake to have told you the lower number." $7 is hardly a big deal, but to be told one thing and have another happen is extremely unprofessional. I work in retail and I'd never dream of charging one of my customers a higher priced than was previously agreed upon and then simply ignoring them when the discrepancy was brought up. Although I do suppose that $7 is an inexpensive way to save myself from dealing with them again in the future. read more

Unorganized. Overpriced. The league doesn't care about its players... only their credit cards. I've tried them twice. Once for a tennis blender league and recently for a flag football league. The tennis league would have been better if more people showed up. When I signed up, I assumed they had more than 5 players. The whole concept of a blender league gives you a chance to match up with a wide variety of competition at all skill levels. Tough to do with only 5 people. They should have canceled it before they took our money. The coed flag football league was a joke. I signed up because it was at a local park. Three days before the first game I learned that the location had changed to a park 15 miles away. My friend and I were placed on a team that didn't have enough girls to field a team. Every week we had to play at a deficit or borrow players from other teams. Several team members complained to no avail. You pay $50-80 (depending on what they decide to charge you) for flag and cone rental and a couple of refs on a field in the middle of nowhere. No shirts either. I played softball for a few completely frustrating seasons. The price you pay per team or individually for the amount of games you play is ridiculous. And when you do get to play, it's some new ridiculously disfunctional thing every time. I stopped being surprised after a while. Poor softball fields that are constantly rained out and not well maintained. There have been several occasions where the bases were not even out on the field at game time. The league administrators clearly can't be bothered to ensure the field is ready to go. Rainout notices are frequently not given until all players are already at the field and the umpire walks up 5 minutes prior to game time and sees that the fields are sopping wet. The umpire is not certified in any league, just some guy that sports monster can pay cheap for doing it, or it's an intern that gets run out there to give half effort. There are supposed to be safety rules in place for sharp comebackers at the pitcher. These rules are poorly and inconsistently administered. Lineup and fielding rules regarding males and females is like the Wild West. The umpire has no control over anything going on and continually passes the buck towards the league management, who often does nothing in the face of criticism. One incident even allowed an opposing player to charge all the way up to our dugout fence on 3 separate occasions looking to goad our team into conflict. The umpire did nothing to stop it. The league did nothing. When I contacted the league manager to address the issue, he stated in a direct quote, "You can blame us and the league all you want, but you are the only one who I received complaints from. I think that says a lot more about you than it does us." They don't like people who speak up against how poorly they run their league and will dismiss any criticism they receive. I would never recommend anyone play this league. If Bart replies to this comment as he has on other zero star comments, he'll likely try to sling mud at me for being a poorly informed or bitter participant like he did to others on this site. Really displays how dismissive their league is as a whole. This league is horrible. Avoid it. read more

If I could give this ZERO stars if I would. Please also look at its other locations (Colorado Springs - same ownership). First thing I am going to say is look at all the other reviews. There are a reason why their are so many that are negative . The owner Bart (which does reply to post) ALWAYS blames someone else and never takes accountability. I'm sure there will be a reply to this in short order. My wife and I signed up as individuals for a volleyball league at a specific location. This league never took off nor had enough teams. We were moved to another location (over 30 minutes from the original, going through downtown Pgh (traffic on early games). The day we played also changed. When we expressed our concern that we would not be able to play on the new day and location, we were blamed for not being flexible and told we could not get a refund. We were also told that we should have formed a team if we were so concerned. The company also hides behind there "terms and conditions" which you are forced to sign (check box online) which allows them to move you and change the day you signed up for. Read it carefully -- Better yet, find a different league. read more

I've played soccer in the Denver Sportsmonster adult league for 7 years. Our team did try another league for 1 winter session, but quickly found our way back to Sportsmonster because of the support staff that Sportsmonster employs... they just make things so easy! I have nothing but good things to say about the league, the facilities we play at, and staff (including the refs)! When tragedy hit our team a few years back, Bart and the staff at Sportsmonster did everything they could to help us and even sent flowers on behalf of them and the company. Katy, who now manages the league and sets the schedules is always professional and is always out at the fields herself (even in the thunderstorms!!) making it known that Sportsmonster just isn't a league that sets the schedule and hopes for the best. I think for the most part any of these recent negative reviews have to do with egos of the players themselves and you can often point those people out when you play against them. Take if from a team that's been with Sportsmonster for a long time, you'll be in good hands. read more

Sports Monster is a joke. Several times referees have been late to the games and twice they did not show up at all. Last week we were playing in the dark and in the rain at 8pm and they couldn't figure out how to turn the lights on for the field. Instead of pausing the game, they made us play through and risk injury. They rarely use their weather alert text system. I have spent hours at the fields while they decide what to do. read more

I have been in both a soccer league and flag football since moving here and have yet to play one game. They do not communicate changes in time or location to the teams, I have shown up several times (driving over 30 minutes) to a dark field with both teams waiting to play. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I would absolutely give them zero stars if possible. I can't understand how difficult it can be to do the one job you have to do - set up games, reserve the fields, and communicate with the teams who have paid you to play in said leagues. The basketball leagues are the biggest in town. They are well run as well. The league consistently has more than ten teams in it, which means that they run out of gym space. But they somehow find extra space to fit all of the teams in. We might have to travel to a different gym one week, but it's worth it if it means four more teams can be added to the league. I predict that it will get to to 20 teams in the winter. The refs are consistent. They same refs have been reffing there for years and always ref fairly. read more

I am helping my friend spread the word about her experience with this company as it resulted in her being cyber-bullied by the owner himself. She joined and after weeks of not being able to pull a team together (partly due to the company's incompetence), she gave up, cancelled her membership, and asked for a refund. Here is a snippet of one of the MANY personally aggressive e-mails she received from this 'professional': "What is shocking to me is that you have gotten through this world so long without being corrected and pointed out your lack of communication skills or understanding of what you write yourself. And I do feel sorry for you. When I read that you tried to find people to play with you and couldn't for weeks, I knew you had to be very socially difficult (being nice) and your e-mails confirm this. Most decent people I know have no problem finding a friend or co-worker to come out and have a fun night out doing whatever." In what world does/should a company personally attack a client? I hope this company sinks quickly. And it sounds like it is doing just that as he is trying his damnedest to hold onto every last cent. read more

Our soccer team WashParkChiro has been playing with Sports Monster for almost 3 years. Over the last year I've noticed a huge difference in how the league runs. Katy does a great job of maintaining the schedule (including some time requests if we ever have them). She gets the schedule out within the first week of the season which helps us with our roster. She always takes my calls and has a positive attitude. The refs are good, you can tell that the league keeps working with them to help them get better. While the league is recreational/co-ed it can get competitive enough that it makes for a very fun Wednesday night. I love that there are nearly always 15 teams in the league making it diverse and fun. I do recommend Sports Monster, the fields at Dick's are amazing, the organization is great. We'll be with them for the foreseeable future. read more

For their soccer league, they hire the lowest quality referees. Will not be playing with them again, as multiple injuries for my team have occurred simply due to referees tying their shoe or watching the clouds. They have no training, no clue, and are a liability to everyone that plays. I've played in several different amateur sports clubs across a couple of states and several cities. It's pretty rare to have a well-run communicative league. That being said, this league still under performs. Playing soccer this spring we were consistently misinformed of field location and almost always had to send people from the team out scouting for which field we were actually going to play on. We never received jerseys, shirts or anything like that despite being told they would be provided. There were supposed to be post-game watering holes but that never materialized. I never once heard anything about those locations. As a result, I'd say I had a better, cheaper, more social and consistent soccer experience playing pick-up games at Cheesman Park. Save your money and find a meet-up group. read more

This kickball league is a disaster. The "Commissioner" is a total joke. If you want to play kickball in Denver, do yourself a favor and play with any of the other great leagues (Go Kickball, Play Mile High, KIFAC, etc) Sports Monster is run so poorly that it takes the fun out of rec kickball. They have the biggest soccer leagues in Denver and do a great job running them. They get the full season schedule out by the end of week 2 and are great at communicating changes due to weather or field changes that happen the day of. I will be playing with Sports Monster for a long time. read more

SPORTSMONSTER SOFTBALL PITTSBURGH Is by far the worst league I've played in! The only reason why I played in this league is because I can use my ASA bats... First of all, they Run everything from Columbus, OH (3+hours away), they will cancel games if it is clear because of weather they see on the radar there in Columbus. They do not have no local representative here; and Ryan (The guy who runs it) is by far the worst Manager EVER! He never return anyone's phone call or email, but if you owe some type of money, he will send you many messages about it. He's very rude and ignorant! They hire umpires off the streets that don't know how to officiate a can of paint! The field(s) they have permits for are in Very bad neighborhoods (Arlington Field, the kids throw rocks at the players and is very rude and disrespectful; Chartiers Field never drains when it rains and is in HORRIBLE shape all the time). Many injuries occur because of objects in the in/outfield and not a safe place to play! I have much to say about this league, but I don't want to make a book out of it... They are highly unorganized, do not take care of their customers, and they are easily the worst run sports league I have encountered, and I have played in a lot of them. On top of that, the owner of the company is insulting and ineffective. if you have had the pleasure of not interacting with him, I am envious! Not only will they not take care of their customers, but the owner will be sarcastic and rude in his communications, even when you have a reasonable complaint and offer a fair solution. GO WITH ANY OF THEIR COMPETITORS. Even if higher priced, it will be well worth it. Here is a list of all the things that went wrong and what I communicated to the company owner. Even with all these issues, they refused to refund us $150 of the $650 we paid, and instead offered us a credit on another league, saying they had to pay for staff and fields, both of which were huge problems the whole season. No one on our team will ever support them again. 1) We were scheduled to play in City Park on Thurs starting June 19th. We didn't end up playing until over a month later on July 21st. We were also informed of the permit issue at City Park 3 days before we were supposed to play. Not only did we have to change fields all the way across town, but Citizen's Park also had an issue with permitting or something, and the league continued to be pushed back for a month. 2) Thursday was no longer available, so we had to switch to Monday. Also, the only fields available were west Denver, not convenient for many of us. We tried to be flexible because we thought were still going to get to play as planned. 3) Every single game was shortened. The first two games were 40 minutes, and the others were 50 minutes (even once we got to a field with lights). Supposed to be an hour. After the first game, the league manager said we would be playing regular timed games from there on out because there would be Jefferson High School and Citizen's Park fields available, but that did not happen. 4) You mentioned that staffing was paid. Yes, the umpire did a good job showing up. However, the first Denver league manager quit in June, then the 2nd manager was around for a few weeks trying to organize, but he quit after the 1st game. There has been no Denver league manager since the 1st game, so this was not an expense SportsMonster had to pay. 5) On the 2nd game in Jefferson High School, all the teams had to crawl through a fence to get in. The gates were all locked, so it seems like this field may not have been paid for either, or maybe the manager was supposed to unlock it but he quit after the 1st game. 6) They continued to schedule a team to play that only played in one game. After that game, no one from theat team showed up ever, but they scheduled them for at least 5 more games. I used to Play in Sportsmonster's Kickball & Softball leagues but after seasons of Sportsmonster billing us incorrectly, we switched to Play Mile High/Go Kickball. However, we decided to give Sports Monster one last try. BIG MISTAKE. The highlights from the first game include: -Partial/Impartial Refs, using "subjective rules" -Playing in a thunderstorm -Having two kickball games being played on the same field. I have played softball in Louisville through Sports Monster for five years now and I would give zero stars if that was possible. They run our Sunday softball league remotely from Ohio and for five years we have never had anyone local to service the field, we have multiple light posts at the field but are not allowed to turn them on for night games, all of our bleachers were stolen, and no one ever answers the phone or responds to questions via email. There used to be a guy named Ryan who ran the league and I thought he was piss but now this new guy named Michael Eckstein is even worse. We pay $550 per season for three seasons out of the year and we never see an ounce of return on that as far as field care, communication, sufficient umpires for championship games, or God forbid, championship t-shirts. During our Spring season, they greedily tried to run two different leagues on Sunday which worked out poorly because they didn't have enough time on a Sunday to make up rainout games so they made us play on a Saturday to complete the season. Half the rainouts they call wouldn't even be necessary if they had someone to rake the damn field. Summer season, half of all the teams quit because of their hatred for Sports Monster and so our higher competitive division only had four teams in it and we had to play the same teams over and over and over. It was not even worth our time. Now, in Fall season, we are still playing two weeks before Thanksgiving. It's impossible to even get my players to show up because they hate this league so much. And because every other one of the teams in our higher competitive division refuses to play for Sports Monster, we had to step down to the lesser competitive division and needless to say, we have an undefeated season due to the lack of competition. We could've had this season over with by now but Sports Monster doesn't know how to use common sense when running a softball league. Even though there were only five games to be played for Sunday Playoffs, they scheduled the first game to be played at 1PM and the championship game to start at 5PM. Thanks to Daylight Savings Time, our sunset was estimated to be at 5:30PM. I immediately messaged our umpire and Sports Monster asking the games to be moved up and NEVER HEARD BACK FROM ANYONE. Of course, we get there to play on Sunday and the games are running behind and we don't start the Championship game until after 5PM. Sun sets around the 2nd inning and it's dark as hell. The opposing team starts complaining about possible injuries and inquires if Sports Monster is going to pay for their injuries. Of course, then, the umpire calls the game at the top of the 4th fucking inning when we're in the lead 8-3 and says we may have to start the game over next Sunday. I went off. Not only should we not have even started to play that game, the game should never have even been SCHEDULED that late. So, sticking with status quo of not making any sense, Sports Monster has emailed us to let us know that tomorrow, with 60% chance of rain, we are playing the Championship game starting with our 8-3 score but playing all seven fucking innings to make it "worth our while". Well, Sports Monster, you've never been worth our while and I'm tired of you ruining my Sundays eight months out of the year. Give up Camp Taylor so we can have a decent company run this league because we will never play for Sports Monster again. And I assure you that not only myself or my team feels that way, all of the teams feel this way. You suck. And from looking at all of your multiple negative reviews on Yelp, BBB, and Facebook, you'll have a charming response coming my way refusing accountability and claiming my players' and my personalities are the reasons we hate your company. read more

This is quite possibly the worst run league I have ever been involved in. The only reason people keep coming back is that no one has set up another soccer league in town. Random field and time changes without any notice to teams, incompetent referees that let matches escalate into near brawls, shorting teams on duration of matches from 60 to 50 minutes almost constantly. That on top of other random acts of unkindness. You do not get remotely what you pay for with these guys. They can't keep anybody long enough to run it more than 6-8 weeks at a time because they are probably paying next to nothing while charging a really healthy league fee. My experience with Sports Monster was awful. Signed up, and they cancelled the league, but didn't actually tell me the league was cancelled. I had to call them the day the first game was supposed to be played in order to find out. The word "refund" is all you have to say in order for them to stop all communication with you. read more

For basketball leagues: Have had very good experiences from a customer service standpoint. Have always had timely and courteous responses when asking questions via email. The one complaint i have is the refereeing. One ref for a bball game is generally not enough. It's hard on the ref and it's upsetting for the players when calls are missed or unfair penalties are called. All said - the players and organizers with the league are very friendly and fun to play with. read more

this is hands down the worst league i have ever played in. if 0 stars were an option, i would give it. i'm trying to think how i can sum up what a horrible experience it's been in a succinct manner: 1) "customer service" - i put in quotes because there is no customer service. if you write or call, you will be ignored. they make it completely clear that they don't give a shit once they have your money 2) complete lack of organization - 99% of the time, your game time or location will be changed last minute. on the website. because that makes sense. i always check the website to see if there's a schedule change while i'm driving to the game. how about a call or email sports monster? oh right...see no. 1 3) the refs - i could probably deal with 1 & 2 if the refereeing was decent but it is absolutely god-awful beyond what i ever could have anticipated. i understand these schmucks have no idea what the rules are but at least look like you give a fuck and TRY to make the correct call. but no, they make it abundantly clear that they don't give a fuck and on top of it, they will actually talk shit to you from the sideline. i can only assume they don't have real jobs because they have no idea how to behave in a professional manner anyway, i am hoping to find a better league to play in even if it means traveling further but if all else fails, pickup games at the park are way more fun than this garbage league. talk to anyone who has played with these assholes and they will echo exactly what i and every other reviewer has said...with the exception of michael j. who clearly either works (or worked) for sports monster when he wrote that review ha read more

I have been asked to help ref for Sports Monster as an independent contractor. I will say it is and has been fun working with Sports Monster. Mostly because of the laid back, social atmosphere, with a little competition involved. The basketball is very competitive. I also referee Kicker Ball every once in awhile. I am from Montana, just moving to Denver, and it is a culture shock, how funny some of the people are. Often the two alpha males from each team will think about a brawl, but then they settle down. This league is perfect to socialize, have fun, meet people, laugh and enjoy the outdoors. It's just a typical league. This league is not good, if you are thinking about making the Olympic team in kicker ball, and getting a kicker ball scholarship for the highest college in America. I feel most of the negative reviews people are being a little too serious. We make the decisions the best we can with the situation at hand. And the world isn't perfect, we may make small mistakes. Not everybody can always see that that was the best decision to be made. Like if a team shows up with only 2 girls, while the other team has 7 girls, you do the best you can to make it even. I am just surprised how people don't always just let things go, and just enjoy. We fix the discrepancies to make it as fair as possible. And also make it as competitive as possible to find out the best team. The management does a good job in communicating. It's just a different culture. If you fix a discrepancy, and some people can not see that was the best option they had to fix it, no body can help that. Example if someone scoots up while pitching, and hits two foul balls, then people complain they were too close. So then you say 'fine', please scoot back, and you get one more chance, because you were sneaking up too close. Then the next kicker comes up and, now the pitcher is all the way scooted back, and kicks two fouls, but this time she's out because there was no excuse. Then complains she was out, but not the other person. It's like you make calls that are fair the best as you can, and if you don't see that, there's nobody anybody can do. This is the second time they couldn't place me in a league as a free agent, first time was basketball, this time it's soccer. Again, they didn't notify me until I called them to find out why I hadn't heard anything about the league that was supposed to start that day that I signed up for. This "Corporation" needs to understand that they aren't even tasked with selling a product. All they have to do is organize leagues for people (who approach them) to play in. This requires setting up times to play with the city and hiring officials. Seems pretty simple. Somehow this has proved impossible for Sportsmonster. If they are actually able to organize a league, they ofter fail to inform teams when a game has been cancled or the forget to remind the city that there is a night game and the lights need to be on at the field. If I worked for Sportsmonster and wasn't awful at my job (hard to imagine with their current crew), I would immediately start a new company to compete. It wouldn't be hard to surpass this inept "Corporation." read more

I wish I could give them 0 stars. The owner Bart is the worst of the bunch of slimy horrible people that just happen to own a business. They won't follow through with what you pay for and have no customer service skills. So do not waste your money. Try denver sport and social club. SPORTS MONSTER is an awful awful awful company. Do not waste your time or money. Basically our season got rained out and instead of giving us the choice between moving the season to summer or giving us our money back they chose to MAKE US play on days we didn't sign up for and also make us play double headers so they could "stay on schedule" which hasn't happened yet. Bart then goes on to say that if we don't want to play the double headers to go home and don't play, even though we paid for the games and won't be receiving anything back for them.
