Came to practice at the driving range after confirming hours and no special events on their website. After about 20 minutes in, the driving range was closing down for tournament players to practice. I didn't receive any prior notice from staff at check-in. A simple heads up would've allowed me to plan accordingly and go elsewhere for more practice time. I wanted to play a round of golf in Denver while traveling from Ohio. I had to book 9 holes online (you can't book via phone) and 18 holes unavailable. It's walking only Tuesday-Thursday. The staff are not super nice but not rude. The pace of play was average, with 4somes walking 9 we finished in just under 2.5 hours. With this course, you come for the links but you'll stay for the views. This course has one of the best views in the city. You can see the city skyline and mountains that are the backdrop right off the clubhouse. If you stay for a drink or meal after your round you'll want to grab a table on the newly renovated patio. They have some cool historical exhibits in the foyer. Additionally, I always appreciate a course that supports first tees! Pristine tee boxes, well kept greens and fairways. Very interesting layout, the back 9 holes are jumbled into the front 9. Concrete cart paths with curbs. Holes 3-6 and 9 all next to the road. We played on the front 9 and majority of the tee boxes are next to the street and that's a bit obnoxious because of the noise, but that just not my thing. I rented clubs and they were decent. I'd say that they could use an upgrade to newer/ less worn equipment. And not having a towel or brush on the bag was whack. I couldn't clean my clubs off in between shots. Also, I'd never rented clubs that didn't come with tees or balls. That was new to me. Overall, the facility was really nice. They have a turf driving range, really nice chipping and putting green. For many years I belonged to the Olympic Club golf courses in SF and I got spoiled playing two amazing 18 hole layouts. Alas I gave the sport up about 10 years ago when work became my sole focus. So coming to City Park is not the same experience...but for a municipal golf course it is wonderfully run. Fairways, greens, and rough are in good shape. Driving range is on mats (which is a horrible way to practice your game but oh well). Club house is very beautiful with a great restaurant. Great staff for the pro shop. I highly recommend getting the app Select Pi to easily purchase range balls etc. 4 stars because it is 10 minutes from my home read more

Staff is so rude, not just like the quiet anti social rude, like outwardly rude. You can tell they stereotype people and discriminate off of that. The pro shop is rude and short with you, just tells you off when you ask a question. Range has no possible way for you to practice with your driver when it's mats only and if you step off to put a tee in the ground you get kicked off while 3 others are doing it and there's a kid right next to you taking divots out of the grass with an iron. I keep trying to give this place a chance, but 3 outa 3 times I've been treated very poorly. They act like one of those bad country clubs who looks down on anyone who isn't a member. read more

I absolutely love golfing 18 holes at City Park! The location can't be beat- it's literally in the middle of the city with amazing views of the front range... and it's pretty technical with a good variety (sand, trees, long/short distance, & water). Some of the greens are pretty tight (hey it's in the city so you gotta expect that!) but it'll be nice once the trees mature. It isn't too hilly so it's easy to walk 9 but I like to ride 18 so I can enjoy my 4 hours :) it's really hard to get a tee time, you have to have the Denver Golf loyalty pass or be lucky to snag a cancellation. Parking can be tough bc the lots are small but I've never had an issue finding a spot :) The course is the greens are beautiful & well maintained! The tee boxes are in pretty good shape, although the tee boxes at the driving range are really beat up. There's a good combination of rough & fairway, and the green is always pretty nice. They take good care of this course! The clubhouse is gorgeous & has a restaurant with a beautiful patio overlooking the cityscape & mountains - a million dollar view indeed! Unfortunately the food leaves something to be desired & the service is really lacking.. but the patio is still nice for a post-game drink! The pro shop is small but has everything you need or want. They have tons of carts to rent & it's a great municipal course for like $65-70 to ride 18 holes- for the views & convenience, it's a steal! They get really busy & sometimes one of the old guys in the shop is a grouch, but it's no sweat bc everyone else is kind. All in all, I love living less than a mile from here & snagging a tee time when I am free... it's a great course & I love learning on it!! read more

After hearing about the million dollar renovation done to City Park Golf Course and clubhouse my parents and I were excited to stop in for a drink before playing 9 holes. In all reality, I found it to be a little overrated. Here's the breakdown: PRO: Despite being smack dab in the middle of the busy Denver epicenter, the course has its' own parking lot for golfers and club diners only! CON: The area is wicked crowded and parking lot it fills up really fast. PRO: The Pro Shop is perfectly chilled, offers a wide variety of golf attire and attendants were super friendly in getting us signed in and paid. Pricing is much less than expected for an executive course within the Denver Golf system. My husband and I paid just $65 for the two of us, plus two carts! CON: Seriously none! PRO: The club house boasts stunning views of downtown and offers traditional bar fare. Any drinks from the full service bar, include cocktails, craft brews or wine! Service is friendly and has the process down to a well-oiled machine. CON: The day we played, the "stunning" clubhouse was blocked off (maybe for a private event?), and those who chose to imbibe before golf sat in this like makeshift space with folding doors. The space was tiny, not decorated and only featured one are with windows. AWK. PRO: The course has THE MOST gorgeous view of downtown Denver. Literally the best. YAS Denver, you Queen! CON: The view is only incredible from the first few holes that face downtown, otherwise the view gives off an urban suburbs vibe. PRO: The course is large, well designed and very well groomed. CON: The course doesn't offer any challenges (literally no water or sand) and allows for very little shade. PRO: When you play on Sunday evenings, you can hear the jazz music coming from City Park! CON: It becomes a little distracting, along with the amount of cars honking in search of finding a spot to park. While this course does have quite a few pros, I honestly wasn't blown away. It costs about $71 to play 18 on the weekends which is far too much given how many people they pump on the course, poor course maintenance, and rude staff. At that price point, I'd recommend Plum Creek, Buffalo Run, Legacy Ridge, Todd Creek, etc... Good to play once. read more

I am old school, and was once a bartender back in the day for the concessionare here at City Park Golf. I wouldn't dare place a drink down without a cocktail napkin, ever! I did request one, and she never came back. I went up to the bar and grabbed two regular napkins, instead of their black cocktail. Played 10/23/22 with pretty good weather in the morning but super windy by afternoon. Easy check-in, the new clubhouse is beautiful and has amazing views. Grabbed a golf cart and we were off, we played the back 9 and it has a good variety of holes. I will say they are quite close together, we had a few other people shooting into our hole and then driving their carts over and interrupting our game...not the best etiquette. Also, didn't realize the bathrooms needed a code so when we finally got to one, I couldn't get in. Things to know for next time! read more

The facility is really modern and nice. The views from the course are amazing- there is a beautiful view of the mountains and also the city skyline. I ate at the restaurant. The restaurant was large and had ample indoor and outdoor seating. The patty melt was good, fries were alright. The Alfredo penne pasta was very tasty. There's a small little shop inside as well. If you're looking to schedule private golf lessons, I'd recommend booking with Sam M! He knows what he's doing and he is extremely patient and will never make you feel embarrassed for not being good! I recently stopped by City Park Golf Course to get in a bit of solo practice at the driving range on my way home. Here's the highlights: ++ I love that you are facing east at this range. It makes it nice for later in the day practice. Though early in the morning with the sun in your face may be a little rough. ++ The greens are in great shape and the distances are very clearly marked. ++ The pro-shop is well stocked and staff are super friendly! ++ There's no dress code. So if you forget your collared shirt you're okay! ++ Prices are very reasonable! 40 balls = $5, 80 balls = $10, and 120 = $15. -- You can't use your drivers at many of the stalls nearest the pro shop; due to safety concerns for those using the actual course. -- With your back to York Street, there can be a bit of road noise at the range. Nothing outrageous though. I did also note that, due to a lack of sidewalks along 26th Avenue, people were walking along the fairways... I look forward to spending some more time at City Park Golf Course in the future! Especially with the upcoming renovations! **Pro Tip: They are going to be doing some major updating and will be closing at the end of the 2017 golf season until 2019! I called and listened to their voicemail for updated information, I called to verify with them. They don't answer information, I show up and they have still made other changes that are not consistent with what they say online. The redesigned golf course is NOT good. WE would NOT recommend playing here. The course design has many, many, many flaws. Almost any course is much better in the Denver area and in Colorado. Too bad. The site had potential to be a very fine course. The new course turned out to be horribly designed. Play is slow, and many holes can be dangerous. Even, the Old original course was better. There are many many problems with the new design. Walks from green to tees are extremely long. Greens are severely undulating, and poorly designed. Tees are small with many divots. We could list 50 problems or more with the design of the course. read more

Management, this review is for Bruno in the Club House. I have not had a chance to play since the renovation so I called today to see if I could fly stand by and walk up/ book a tee time further out. Bruno's customer service was above and beyond with getting me the info I needed. He ended the call by asking if there was anything else he could help with; adding he was "always happy to help." It's sad to see the golf industry turn a little smug as the sport grows but Bruno is one of the good ones. read more

The pluses are the clubhouse and the food is better than average. The minuses include proximity of range to club house, and the fact you hit off mats for more than average fees per bucket. Except for the back tees, this is more like an an executive course. It retained a little of its' old charm and flavor. The fairways are way too close to each other. This was supposed to be some type of re-do based upon a flood plain. A visual assessment of that idea makes it marginal at best. City Park Golf Course is a great place to bring out of town guests. There are a few reasons: 1. Not a tough course to navigate - lots of room for the occasional errant shot. 2. Spectacular view of the city skyline with the mountains in the background from the East side of the course. 3. Friendly staff, a decent restaurant, and well maintained facilities. Play on the weekend can be a little slow, but for a municipal course, it really is a nice combination of convenience, affordability, and fun. One side note, a handful of the greens are miserably sloped, where if you miss a putt, there is about a 95% chance the ball will roll all the way to the front of the green. This problem bets progressively worse as the summer dries and hardens the course. read more

Enjoyable to play, mature trees, small greens, accommodating staff. Nice public/muni type course. Not much elevation change, most holes are relatively straight with only gentle dog-legs. Greens are all small and round with some tilt, usually from back to front. Course is in good condition. I showed up and got out in a matter of minutes. Only negatives (slight) were that the weekend rates start on Friday and the on course Marshall (the only one I saw) is not helpfull ie he yelled that one of our player's ball hit the tree and bounced forward. We looked for it for 5 minutes and did not find it, he just sat in his cart and did not come over the 50 or so yards to help. If he saw where it was, why did he not assist, it would speed up play and it is part of his job. Kind of picky but things like that can make a difference in how players like/dislike a course. Good price for a round of golf and pace of play moves right along. read more

City Park driving range was a fun middle-of-the-week activity. I haven't golfed in years, so I definitely don't pretend to know what I'm doing. My husband, on the other hands, golfs a few times a year and can carry his own weight. We got a few buckets of balls, borrowed some clubs, and went to work. Nothing fancy, just hitting balls at the driving range. Even with the heavy traffic on York Street, I found it to be peaceful and we had the buffer of a few stalls on each side. I have to say, I didn't interact with any staff members, so I can't speak to that. My husband mentioned the prices were fair and the pros in the golf shop were helpful. If I had to consider one course in Denver to be my most consistent home, City Park is it. This is not the greatest golf course around, nor is it the number one municipal track you will come across. It is, however, a terrific Denver City Course to get out with a group of golfers that span age, gender and ability level. It is also a place to take in some great views of downtown. For the price, it is a terrific place to have in your non-high end rotation. Denver City Golf has some great courses. There is a good tradition that goes back, and many of the courses are well worth playing. Wellshire is above average, Overland is comfortable, Willis Case has some good holes and Kennedy has a terrific creekside nine that is better than average for a muni track. And, there's Evergreen up in the mountains. They represent a good value. For a former Midwesterner like me, it's also great that they are open for much more of the year than the frozen north. City Park is just fun. And, while you can get away with some shots off the tee that would kill you, you will find the green complexes to present some good challenges. And, the greens get fast in the Summer. I've bombed a lot of drives and still been outscored by the old guys who knock it straight up the fairway, knock it up close to the green, then get up and down. That's City Park. So... Let's go for a tour: *1, 2, and 3 go straight up the road and you can miss right with your drive all day long. The first two are short par-4's which is followed by a long par-5. *4 is a long iron par-3 guarded by sand. I tend to start it right a draw the ball over the trap. The green is pretty deep. *5 is a short par-4 and you can hit a 3-wood or iron. The green is forgiving if you go long. *6 is a solid par-4 with water on the right and in front of the green. *7 is a weak long par-3. *8 is a great downhill par-4 which gets narrow as you approach the green. You don't want to be long on your approach. Good views of Denver, too. *9 is a rip it from an elevated tee box (Ah yes!) par-4. Distance. You will want to swing out of your shoes. If you start it right and draw it back, you will be smiling. *10 and 11 are back to back par-5's. Both are solid but long. *12 is a good par-3 if you club it right. *13 is a short par-4 which narrows in the landing area. Hit it straight or your approach is guarded by trees. *14 is a tough par-4 if you play from the tips. You also have to hit a fade to avoid a tree from the back. I can rip a fade with my driver reliably, but it takes a bit of distance and this is a long hole. *15 is a tricked up dog-leg right that you need to know how to play. And, then you'll still hit the wrong shot. Try to avoid left because you'll end up on the road or in the zoo. Still a fun hole. *16 is a good par-3 framed by a church in the background. *17 and 18 are great closing holes that run along each wide of the driving range. Both require good drives - the approach shot on 17 is uphill and can be hard to judge. 18 is another good approach shot. Avoid the parking lot. Overall, a lot of fun! read more

I like it. Cheap and good, what else can you ask for? I went to the driving range to hit balls. Putting range. Drive range. I am a beginner, so this was all new to me, and I loved it. It seemed perfect for my non-existent game. The clubhouse is decent. The pro shop was busy, but the guys were aware of every customer and hooked us up with tokens quickly. You can get a couple clubs to practice with if you don't have your own. Sale clothes. Very reasonable cart/ course rates. And balls are $10 for the BIG bucket. Brilliant. It is located right off York, and convenient to downtown and the uptown neighborhoods. Golf! right in the center of the city. I love my town! read more

City Park is sort of a lower tier muni course here in Denver. It's normally reasonably well maintained (though of course always call ahead to find out if it's been recently aerated or not so you can avoid it if it has.) As other reviewers have mentioned, the holes are short and flat -- which means it's good for higher handicap golfers. The greens add a challenge because they're pretty small, though if you can hit 'em they isn't much break so if you can stick it close you don't have to worry too much about a three-put. There aren't many trees, so don't plan on playing shade golf or keeping cool on the incredibly hot summer days. Also be careful because there a few chances to shank one into the road on the North and East sides of the course. The practice facilities are decent. Good sized putting green, well maintained but narrow driving range (not many people can fit in there, and it gets crowded super super after work) and the chipping area is decent. Staff is usually helpful and polite, but nothing to write home about. But the thing everyone needs to be aware of, is that they have possibly THE GREATEST HOT DOGS you will ever have at a golf course. I can't even explain how good it is to have a City Park dog and a shot of Jack at the turn before heading out for the back 9. It's just nice and toasted and buttery and hot doggy -- next time you hit sticks at City Park GC, definitely get yourself a dog. Aside from hitting your 5 wood instead of your three wood off the tee at the 9th, it'll be the best decision you make all day. read more

The pace of play was backed up and we were waiting on the parties in front of us. This review is to speak to the absolute sexiest attitude that happened at city park golf course today. There were multiple instances of harassment by the Rangers today. Myself and three other girls were playing nine holes with a cart. Multiple times the ranger stopped us on every hole. Telling us he was going to kick us off if we didn't speed up. He was absolutely rude when we said we would let anyone played through. He called us a liar etc. I will never give city park another dime. I would love to talk to City Park's management regarding today. It was a deterrent that we had a new golf we with us. We will absolutely never come back and we are happy to share the full story. We are not feminists but today was ridiculous. My husband and all of his friends will also be banning City Park. Shame on you. I should have hit you with a golf ball. read more

Played City Park today and ate breakfast afterwards. The new club house is beautiful. The new course design is marginal at best. Too many fairways to close together balls going everywhere. The bigger problem is the people playing. They don't understand golf etiquette if your in someone else fairway you don't get to stand there. The grounds keepers were terrible. They were mowing which we expect but 3 times when we were hitting approach shots they would not get off the greens. Samething happened with them working on traps and edging on fairways. Very unprofessional grounds staff. Greens are hard which u expect with new greens. The resturant food was ok but not as well prepared as other Denver courses. Overall I would rate the course below average for City of Denver golf courses. read more
