Perhaps even more noticeable is is persistent laughter. It is contagious. Every time the trains go by he runs up to the bordering fence (there's a lot of distance, a road and trees and another fence) to wave hello and goodbye. He plays well in the sandbox and loves walking around the perimeter. But enough about my child. This place is spacious! Plenty of parking. There's tennis and hockey courts, the playground, sandbox, fountain. There's plenty of benches to sit and spectate. Also there are some baseball and soccer fields and bleachers. Now, where's the restroom?

The only thing that would make the rec. better is if it still had the basketball court. North Haledon is a baseball town and it shows. The park has 5 basketball fields. #1 is major league size located by the Brookside entrance. You will also find the kids jungle gym, or kids American Ninja Warrior training facility as well as the entrance to High Mountain School. There is also a trail accessible from Dawn Ave. for the locals. Field #5 is a great field for a homer in derby. It is located by the overlook entrance by then police department and Library. There is a beautiful stream that goes along the border of the park. You may find children in the water, but I wouldn't recommend it. There is a bike trail that goes behind #1 and also a garden. They have batting cages, but are only accessible by the ref commission or coaches. There's a refreshment stand and pavilion area. There are plenty of soccer fields and tennis courts as well. The tennis court is locked, the code is 421, the police assured me that anybody can play. They also have a wall for "pickle ball." I'm not sure what that is, but when I was a kid we used to play "butt's up" outside the gym by the middle school. I suspect they didn't want kids playing there, created a wall and renamed this game. (You if you dropped the ball after it was bounced against the wall, you had to run and touch the wall before someone would throw it against the wall, if the ball got there first, you would have to allow the thrower to throw the tennis ball at your butt).

Plenty of parking and open fields for you to walk or picnic. There's a a lot of picnic tables, a picnic table and a few grills. There is a memorial, soccer fields, baseball fields, basketball courts, and a playground. The best part of the lake is probably the lake. I didn't go in but there were a lot of people in the water and on the beech. There were lifeguards and a few docks. Check out their website for specifics on hours, membership or permits.

It's a nice little park that has all the amenities you would like expect; basketball courts, tennis courts, pavilion, jungle gym, bathrooms, and baseball fields. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the park and the trail. The trail has a few options to walk around a lake, go to "DuPont land" (DuPont used to be in this area, contaminated the land and water years ago), and the top of then mountain. Following the trail to the top of the mountain was easy enough. The view of the reservoir was beautiful! I couldn't help but explore the woods and found some very strange things. I found an abandoned bus, car and a few large appliances. There were a few spots where I could see that people go to drink. I cleaned up their trash. Beer cans are lighter on the way out, I have no respect for anybody who would leave trash in the woods like that. If you are like me and take a hike so you can relax, but then are pissed when you see litter, than this beautiful trail will surely piss you off. This is easily the worst dog park in Passaic County, entirely due to the ground surface. Who came up with this idea? It's a nice park. It's conveniently located. It has tremendous potential! There are nice facilities, umbrellas for sun shelter, a doggie water fountain, etc. But the dogs just cannot run around comfortably on gravel. This is just parks planning gone wrong, likely conceived by someone who doesn't have dogs.

*Playground review!*…read more This one is a good one, y'all. It's definitely on the newer side and is a decent size for a bunch of kids to run & play. The brightly colored slides, tunnels, swings can be seen from Black Oak Ridge Rd. so it's hard to avoid when cruising the nighborhood -- I speak from experience! :-P There's a couple different structures -- one for smaller kids (1-3yo, I think) and one for older/bigger kids. My son has a blast climbing up the tunnels and down the slides every time we visit this playground. Note: the parking lot is a good size... but fills up quickly as it shares the lot w/ the dog park... and there's really no street parking along the park as it's a pretty active intersection.

Truth be told the majority of the playground structure is just slides.. but if your kid loves slides then this is the playground to try! There's a bunch of fun ways to get up to the slides too -- a couple ladders, a "rock wall", steps, etc. Rumana is definitely on the newer side with rubber mulch and brightly colored heavy duty plastic parts/pieces. The playground has a good sized yard so great for kids running around too. It is enclosed by a fence but it's not lockable... so if you have littles then you'll want to keep a eye on them a bit more closely so they don't wander off. The small basketball court, merry go round and swings are all a bonus. The swings are designed for older kids though... no baby or toddler seats. Parking is easy -- there's no parking lot but the street in front of the playground indents a little bit so there's plenty of room for a line of cars to the playground and for other cars to drive down the street.
