received a shirt and socks from my brother in law in Edmonton, for my birthday. Went to South Centre location in Calgary to get a larger size sock and exchange my shirt. The man that helped me told me he would give me a gift card and then I could shop for new items. Normally if this happens I am simply told to go find replacements and bring them to the counter for exchange. He seemed to be unfamiliar with the til. (guess he did'nt want me to respond to his incompetence). Then he called first manager who told him that, in fact, he had returned the gift amount to the originators Visa card instead of the gift card! Then they called the next manager who said Sorry but nothing can be done about it. This created a difficult Family dynamic which I won't go into, but seriously...sorry was what they said as they left the counter. I have patronized Sporting Life since it opened at the mall and if this is the way they treat their customers it is very disappointing and I will be advising my friends to be careful not to give gifts using the company. The error happened through incompetence but simple response of .."sorry nothing can be done", without any recognition of the impact of this event which started as a SIMPLE EXCHANGE.. I am a retired gentleman with a history of training people for customer service and this is the worst service I have had that I can remember. A simple exchange made so much worse thru lack of basic training. Please send this to someone that actually cares and I would expect a real apology! I'm amazed at how large and how much stuff is in this store and yet it's easy to shop and move through the store. Everything is high quality from clothing brands like The North Face, Hugo Boss to Canada Goose. They carry bikes and snow skis and everything in between for outdoor sports. The decor, lighting and store layout is inviting and comfortable. Lots of woods and rocks and leather seats. The downfall of a store this size is getting efficient help. The other is the price of goods is quite up there. Other than when they have a big sale. A person could spend an hour or more in here just looking around. The other thing I wish all stores had like Sporting Life are lounge areas! When you just want to let the wife do here thing and I can take a breather. They just need a cappuccino bar. read more

Last year Sporting Life at the Southcentre Mall sold my son a pair of 170cm skiis. The problem is he is 6'2" and over 200lbs. No other ski store would recommend 170cm skiis for a person of that size. Either incompetence or pushing their inventory. read more

If I could I will rate it zero. DO NOT BUY TOP BRAND Goods from them! Because they won't follow their return policy to give you return if something come up. Ordered one coat from online, cost$500, not fit and went to the store to return, told me they can not do that because they have different return system with online purchase!!!! If I know that I won't order from them. Basically they cheat their customer to order online then tell you something different!!! Be careful with their online purchase, especially those top brand ones. just to update on this, finally the store took my return after I contacted their online customer service. They were looking for the authenticity tag, unfortunately, the style that I bought, does not have it. After they confirmed with the brand company, finally I got my coat returned. The communication with their online customer services went very smoothly, really surprised me after read so many negative reviews. read more

Much like Jean H's review on January 2021, I bought a jacket from these folks. Their salesperson guided me to the "perfect jacket". It seemed thin but I was assured it would do the job. After two weeks of ownership, it's proven itself subpar, precisely as I was concerned about (...but salesperson assured me...) and feathers are coming out through the seams from extremely gentle wear (walking and so on). I called to request a refund and the cashier that answered said yes. I then ask him to confirm it would be allowed as I live far from the store. The manager then gets on and tells me very clearly that if he can't resell it as new then I need to deal with North Face directly...after two weeks of ownership??? So as their customer, I'm paying them for the honor of protecting Sporting Life against managing manufacturer defects after 2 weeks of ownership?? No accountability or after purchase support. Will never happen again...ever. read more

I was able to get custom fit touring ski boots in three days! Warren did an amazing job, even with the store being so busy I was always looked after and got in and out of the store in time. We were in Sporting Life because their windows caught my attention. While inside, we noticed they sold bike seats that attach to the rear of bikes. Tom was really helpful in answering all my questions and providing information about the product. We ended up purchasing it a week later and came back for more supplies. It was super cool to see management working on the floor alongside staff (and helping staff). Every time I am in, there is management present. In addition, after frequenting the shop, we were instantly recognized and welcomed by management and staff. I know if I ran into any problems or had questions, they would be there to help me. Sporting Life is a premium store that makes the effort to deliver a premium experience. I have been in a few times to buy gear but returned this week to get some service work done on my Snowboard. I'm fairly particular about who works on my gear and they were recommended. I found the service department to be underwhelming. One of the floor staff retrieved my board. The service team was nowhere to be found. The board was filthy (from the service work) and the patch that was done on the base was poor quality. The floor staff member agreed, cleaned my board and offered a refund for the unacceptable work. A nice gesture but I would have preferred to just get quality work. In a city with high unemployment there is no need to retain people who don't care about the work they turn out. I doubt I will return to their service department. read more
