We tried to ask some questions regarding the skis available, what to look for, sizing, etc, as we were beginners. Staff literally told us that we should be shopping at Sport Chek instead and left us alone. I believe they took one look at my wife and I decided we were not worth their time. Funny thing is friends recommended this store as they purchased from here as beginners and had received good customer service but we were not afforded the same treatment. Avoid this entitled and snobby shop at all cost and save yourself the humiliation. Edit: We went to Sport Chek, great customer service but inventory was low. Proceeded to go to Sporting Life and we got fully kitted for our next ski trip. Too bad, this was a sure sale for SkiWest. The level of service we received were miles different between them and others.

We had been all over the city and had searched to no avail. But can you believe that of all the places we searched, Sport Chek is the one that actually delivered?!?!? Sport Chek stores now have a GNC nutrition store inside of them (most Sport Chek stores that is) and this one happened to be one of them. I found the prized protein powder I had been looking for and ended up buying two huge bins because they had a 'buy 1, get 1 50% off' promotion running. Plus I went ahead and bought a GNC Gold card from this location and I ended up getting two huge bins of the protein powder for less than the cost of what one would normally cost me!!! The service was a little flaky however, so the store loses 1 star. That aside, a very happy and productive shopping experience!

Two…read moreseasons ago my ski season was ruined after my toenails fell off when I was skiing in ski boots I bought from there that were too big. I brought them back only to be fitted into boots that were too small and much to my big piggie's dismay, this season the same thing happened. I have been told by two different stores that the second pair of boots that I got from Sport Chek were too small, and when I called the store manager at Market Mall I was asked if I had cut my toenails. I'm not an expert on ski equipment, but when I go to a retailer that is probably one of the biggest stores in Canada for this kind of stuff and am told after two attemtps at getting fitted into the right sized boot that I should keep up on my foot hygiene, I'm ready to declaire to the internet world that the customer service at this retailer is a joke. Take your business to a mom and pop store that actually knows what they're talking about. I know I will in the future.

I googled "where to buy wakeboards in Calgary" and Shuswap Ski & Board popped up. I wasn't sure what to expect but...you have to trust the Google, right? I'm glad I did! I arrived and was immediately greeted and asked if they could help. I said I was looking for a wakeboard for my husband. They guided me through the selection process by asking questions about his skill level, weight, shoe size, etc. I mentioned that I liked a certain brand (b/c I'd heard him mention it) so they showed me the best option in that line for his skill level....even though it wasn't the most expensive one. When I asked about that one, they said "Nope, this one is the one he needs!" I love it when the most expensive thing isn't the "right answer" because of the price! The store is quite small but there is a LOT of gear there including paddle boards, PFDs, skis and ropes. I am planning a trip back to talk about buying a paddle board!

We were very "surprised" with my family when after an hour wait, we were told that because we didn't buy his HEAD boots from his store they can't do anything for us... When i mentioned that I'm not trying to get anything for free, and not here to complain but just want a proper boot fitting job done on my new boots (High End ATOMIC 130 flex boots) and of course willing to pay for fitting, he said "If you would buy from me I could help, but as you purchased elswhere, we won't touch other store's boots". They were very patient in answering our questions and recommended how to maintain and care for the new equipment. When there was some harness fraying a couple of months later, they didn't hesitate to fix the problem. Not only did I receive excellent customer service, but I could see other customers being treated the same way. This isn't a place to go if you are looking for the cheapest equipment on the market. This is where you go if you want to speak with people who know what they are selling, will take the time to answer your questions, and will stand behind their products. They are relocating next door to a larger space and are still open while relocating. I will for sure be visiting again soon.

One guy snaps at ever person who enters the door. Openly complaining about how busy it is and giving every excuse in the book to treat people poorly. Yes you are busy, but people want to purchase from you and make you money dude! The least you can do is be kind and considerate. If you want to be treated poorly, go there and try to ask a question or two, you'll be shut down like the back gate. I'll find somewhere else to purchase my outdoor equipment in the future, buy local my ass.
