I was charged $289.99 for diagnosis and a calibration, and the invoice states the light and code were cleared during the test drive. I also paid for a coolant exchange and brake fluid service. When I started the car at pickup, the warning light was still on. I asked the owner, Nathan, to explain why. Instead of rechecking the car, he insisted it was because I hadn't approved all six items on his inspection list, even though his own report marked several of them as not needing work, and none of them relate to that warning light. When I pressed for an answer, he used profanity toward me, including a vulgar personal insult, and yelled at me as I left. Any shop can have a repair that doesn't hold. What matters is how they respond. Refusing to recheck a repair that failed before I left the lot, and then cursing at a customer, is not acceptable. I now have to pay another shop to diagnose the same problem. I can't recommend this business.

He makes his money from labor and his labor charge is VERY VERY reasonable. I asked him once why he doesn't upcharge and he answered, "I have been a mechanic for many many years for other people and have seen how they treat people. I wanted to open my own shop to help people feel safe and comfortable in their cars! I love the work and helping people fix their vehicles!" He was serious and he proves that to me time and time again with the repairs he does on my cars. He keeps all parts he takes off to show you He buys his parts as at cost through a distributor and does not up charge. If the best is $22 that's what he charges you. He will hardly ever say no to you He is more than willing to examine and 'take a quick look and listen' as a curtosy He was once repairing the button to close the side door of my van, he opened up the other side and noticed that one was looking a little frayed so just fixed it to save me the hassle later but didn't let it affect the labor time. I cannot day enough good about him. His is TRUSTWORTHY AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE which in my opinion are the TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU WANT IN A MECHANIC! He has me as a customer for life and he knows that. I bring my cars to him for oil changes, even though I can do them myself because I want him to have the business. Nuff said.

They QUICKLY reached back out and quoted me over a $1000 for the job, while Elk Grove Chevy quoted me just over $700. I knew this job entailed dropping the pan and working around the exhaust. Something that is really easy to do once on a lift. All in all...a 1.5 hour job, and that's a BIG stretch. I shared this dealer quote with them, and it was basically shared with me that I should go there (not in a rude way). Well, obviously I did. The moral of the story for me and for others should be, DON'T assume ind. auto mechanics will be cheaper than the dealership. I ALWAYS want to support local business, but I will not support local businesses when they can't do a job at a fair price, and I feel like the trend with specialized labor has been leaning way towards a place it never used to be.

I told him I can accept the charge and I need the receipt with the $40 additional charge to follow up with groupon about it. The owner said I am not interested in the deal anymore and asked me to leave and get a refund from groupon. I also noticed the owner increased the break fluid flush price on groupon from $160 to $240 after I left the shop today. It's a really bad experience for customers that the owner can change his mind and reject the service. Update for owner's review below "a vehicle that is directly not covered in the advertisement" , groupon adversisement doesn't mention any special vehicle price. After the owner told me to charge additional $40, I was confused and later accepted the charge while telling him to get the receipt for reference then I can follow up with groupon. After that, the owner refused to do the service. I guess the owner don't want his practice to be exposed to groupon. I was sent here to repair transmission (the reason why i started finding answers was noise while driving and breaking), but instead, diagnostic showed that transmission is ok, and they said me "we don't repair things whish are not broken". And then i returned to the place (it was Akin Autorepair) which sent me to Dale Transmission, and here began conflict: they started scare me that my transmission is bad and axle can come out while driving(what was not true, i asked in official dealer), and complain that Dale transmission is not competent(what was pretty boldly and not polite from their side), and tried to send me to another transmission autorepair (by the way it would cost me at least 3000 dollars). I had not choice and went to official dealer, full diagnostic, which costed a lot. But they said "last word" - transmission is ok, and the reason of noise is bad front right hub, which need to replace. After that i came back to Dale Transmission and they changed my front hub, like exception, because they repair transmission only.
