Just had a very filling dinner at Spoon Eastside. My boyfriend and I decided to give Spoon a try and we weren't disappointed in the least. The waitress was attentive from the time we were seated until we left. We ordered spring rolls, traditional shrimp stir fry, and jasmine rice stir fry with veggies. Everything was fresh and hot when it arrived at the table. There was no need for soy or any other sauces, as the food was very full of flavor just as it was. The serving sizes were more than enough, as I was able to bring home leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. The menu prices online are outdated, the things we went in for were over $5 more than we expected. There's also a 20% surcharge on all orders for low staff which would be fine if you actually had a server but you do not, you order at a counter. After a long walk to Piedmont Park and a bit along the Beltline with our fur babies, we needed a place to camp out and grab dinner before it got too late. The sun was going down and it was getting super cold out, with the storm coming. We called around and every place my husband called around us (with Asian/Thai food) declined us sitting outside with our fur babies (2 yorkies). Spoon was welcoming us with open arms and had beautiful outdoor seating arrangements under string lights. We didn't really like the Tom Kha (I am Lao/Thai but the Lao part of me likes ours made differently, thicker). Everyone loved the rest of the food - our dogs ate ALL but one of the chicken wing meat which was a plus. They love Asian marinades so I knew they'd eat the wings. Hehe, but they had a rough last few days due to having to move frantically due to Hurricane Irma, so they hadn't eaten much. Also, the Thai Tea martini was a HIT! We ordered the tempura calamari and lump crab fried rice. The calamari was average at best and could use a bit more flavor. The lump crab fried rice was yummy with just the right amount of spice. Tip: if you're planning on coming with a large party on the weekend. Call ahead and make reservations. Half your party has to be present before you will be seated. Does Happy hour make you happy? Call to see what the happy hour special of the day or week is. $5 Cocktails and half off bottle of wines under $50 are a couple of them. They have a lot of custom cocktails on the menu, moderately priced at $8. The vibe is nice and chill with great music and eclectic decor. Ended up here last night after a bad first impression at another restaurant. I am so glad we ended up here! It was delicious. For starters, I had the coconut soup and boyfriend had the cheese rolls. Both were so delicious! The soup was seasoned perfectly. My entree was the Pad Kee Mao with ground chicken (made mine hot - that have numerous levels for spiciness). BF had the Pad Zu with chicken. The tom kha was very nice: a solid amount of spice without being overpowering, lots of mushrooms, bursting with flavor. The pad thai was also great, lots of peanuts, sprouts and lime: perfection in my book. I was a little annoyed by the pricing on the menu: while it's listed at $8, it's actually $10 once you add any type of protein. Boo for that. Service was great, attentive without hanging. They've got free wi-fi, so I can certainly see returning here again for a working lunch. But, either way I was excited about the Khao Soi - I'm a bit of a Khao Soi connoisseur, fanatic and a fein for the stuff! So even though it was expensive, I'd have been ok with it - but, the problem was it seemed like it was Chicken Panang Curry and not Khao Soi. My Thai wife confirmed my thoughts. We did not have the best experience at Spoon despite it being a slow Thursday evening. We got there around 8 and got seated rather quickly. We ordered some cocktails ($8) and they were very week. I ordered the Atlanta Mule and it was pretty much ginger beer. If I wanted just ginger beer I would have asked for it. I ordered the Massamum curry with Chicken ($11+3). You have to add an extra. Not sure why they wouldn't have chicken as the base like all other restaurant and up charge for a different meat. I really like Spoon Eastside because it combines my favorite food genre, Thai, with a chill bar scene and creative cocktail options. A casual and delicious place for a meal. I ate solo, the couple beside me sounded to be on their first date. There were families, couples and even a large group of friends. The staff is friendly and attentive. The ambiance, decorations and atmosphere is eclectic, but in a good way. The food was delicious. I'm not sure about the overall atmosphere as a dine-in guest. I ordered using UberEats and realized I had the wrong address. They accommodated me & allowed me to pick up the food. The food portion size was decent. I do believe for the $21 I paid for the stir fry & shrimp should be larger. Otherwise, the food was tasty. On the other hand, the parking lot is quite weird.
