I LOVE this salon. I saw Kaitlyn before and she was amazing. This time she wasn't available and I was desperate so at the receptionist recommendation I opted for Shelby. So glad I did!! Shelby is a master at color and blending and I highly recommend her and let me tell you- that's a lot coming from me! Since she did my color I have been loving my hair and been getting a ton of compliments on it. The color is so perfect!! And my hair has NO CRAZY DAMAGE!! It actually feels healthier than it was before! No idea how this girl managed to do that! Extra points for the Salon being an all Aveda salon, everything smells so good and natural and you don't have to rewatch your hair when you get home! They are expensive but worth it. Sean Levahn is a colorist & stylist extraordinaire! He has an organic artistic flair that is simply fun to watch unfold! When my medium-length hair began to thin, I decided to transition to a super-short cut. Sean asked appropriate questions, really listened, and took my hair in a new sassy chic direction that just felt right! It's amazing how a super cut & creative color can totally change a person's mood! I am so grateful to have found Sean. I have been regular customer for a few years. I totally trust him with my hair and appreciate his expertise! Spoke SLO Salon is clean and carries a wide variety of quality products. Although I will be following Sean on his new venture to Jagged Salon, I will likely be back to Spoke SLO to stock up on my favorite Color Conserve shampoo & conditioner as well as Aveda tea. She offered me tea Really took the time to diagnose my hair issues and found a way to get through the mess that it was and tone it down a bit! Mind you I have thick and fluffy hair so it wasn't an easy task! The lead stylist was also very awesome to work with and made me feel comfortable about what was going on! Lindsay Gates is an amazing stylist. For most of my life, I had THE most basic haircut ever. I just wore it long and straight, and parted it right down the middle, or pulled it up in a messy bun. In 2008 I crashed my bike, and didn't walk for a year. I wasn't wearing a helmet, and my injuries necessitated a dramatically short haircut... which was traumatic, and also not that cute. I had bandages on my head so I just wore hats for a while, and I didn't let anyone touch my hair for a long time after that, but Lindsay gave me one of my first haircuts after I had let it grow back out. She was so patient and understanding, and really put me at ease, cleaned up my split ends, and helped me to feel fresh again. Every haircut with her feels like a fresh start. As a full time Flower Farmer and Floral Designer, I find myself constantly needing to walk between two worlds. I don't have a lot of time to get ready before I leave the farm, and I'm often going straight from the field to some situation in town where I need to look presentable. I'm pretty averse to change, but my old hairdo wasn't cutting it, and Lindsay, who is a total artist, has been able to ease me into a dramatically different haircut, that perfectly suits my lifestyle. My hair stays out of my way while I'm working outside, and when it's time to leave the farm, I can literally throw my head under the sink, hop in my truck and let my hair dry on the way to something fancy. It's like some kind of miracle or something, and I really have Lindsay to thank for that! read more

I had a great time at this salon about a month ago. It cost a little bit more than I wanted to spend, but I trusted Maggie when she told me what to expect and what prices my services would entail. It's the first time I've gotten a professional hair cut outside of Supercuts. Ultimately I altered my original ideas because of the honesty that was shared with me. For Maggie, it was about giving me a great cut and highlights that still resonated with my my desired look. I wanted something that wouldn't require a lot of styling on a daily basis, but I will say that the bangs definitely need a little assistance in the morning. But overall it turned out to be a very minimal adjustment to my morning routine. Maggie took amazing care of me, and I'll definitely be going back to her. A little pricey, but worth the experience and the final outcome... Free bang trims are a plus! read more

I was shook by how friendly the staff was. All of the employees were friends, and welcomed me into conversations, making me very comfortable. They really foster a community. I had Kristine R., and it turns out we are from the same town in Minnesota! They needed a model who wanted to go blonde from dark hair, so I was the subject who was taught from. They are very knowledgeable about specific colors, tones, cuts, and treatments. The Aveda products smell so good and helped me relax. They really care about not damaging your hair, even if it takes more time, which I appreciate. This was the best experience I've ever had getting hair done. There are two professionals I am totally anal about--my eye doctor and my hair stylist. I'm lucky to have had great optometrists and hair stylists over the years but I usually do a lot of research ahead of time. Usually, but not this time... I responded to a FB post offering a free haircut. I haven't had my hair done in over 4.5 years and thought it might be time to have something done with my long icky hair. After ANGELA ROMERO offered me the haircut, I immediately looked her up and if you've read any of these reviews, I don't need to reiterate all of her great qualities--I found them all to be true! . She did a wonderful job, has a great eye for what would look great on me and it was over an awesome experience. GOOD haircuts are expensive (honestly, it's why I stopped getting it cut). Even though I didn't pay for my haircut (this time), I will come back for another--I love that Angela is willing to pay it forward and with such a great "product." Very nice environment, Angela was amazing! The broad street location is very homey, there is even a dog roaming around! Very well kept salon, and very hospitable. I got a hair coloring and trim, and Angela was very helpful in asking me what I wanted. She was also extremely personable, and we connected on our music taste and concerts! Ugh ~ I fear writing this review in that Sean's schedule may never be open again but I believe in sharing the love when warranted and so here goes. Let it be known to all who are fortunate and lucky enough to read this that you needn't ever look any further for a beauty-maker other than here with Sean. Did I mention that he's the most amazing hair artist I've ever had; well, he is!! He majorally had to 'fix' my hair colored botch job from another local Aveda salon which will go unnamed because I'm too tickled pink to hold onto any grudge now that Sean saved the day!! Sean comes though like a true master and commander that he is and what a job it was; never once did I question his ability, he instantly gives that "you're in good hands now and I know exactly what to do", type-vibe and lived up to all my expectations (and that's a lot, trust me!!). He is fussier than me; beyond perfectionism which I relish and you will reap all the benefits of his labour of love too. Sean told me before I left, "Get ready for all your compliments", and boy he must have a crystal ball or something b/c a handful of even mere strangers ask me where I had my hair done, and it is still less than a week's time!! I have had Maggie at Spoke do my hair for a couple of years now and I absolutely love the colors she does. I have never received so many compliments from others about my choices of highlights since I started going to Maggie. She really listens to what you would like to do and where you would like to end up with your hair. She also changes the color based on the season going lighter in the summer a little darker in the fall. I love love it. It's so hard to find a good hair stylist who actually looks out for their client. I am so glad I found Megan Rae! I had been going to a bother hair stylist and told her how I hate leaving with color on my face she would put the color blocker on but would not clean it up in time so I would leave the salon and not want to go out because the stain. Megan has totally changed that for me. Any time I get my hair done I am able to go out and enjoy clear of any color stain. Since this was her fist time coloring my hair she took the time to find a good color and bring out some of my natural tones out as well instead of just going with a dark color and calling it a day. She even did highlights which I was very unsure of but I love them. The vibe of the salon is very warm and inviting. Everyone is so nice including Sean who is in the back room. While I was getting my hair washed he engaging us with some very fun conversation. This is my new salon even though it's way far from Orange County its defiantly worth the trip! read more

This review is for Natalie, who took my super last minute request for a haircut on a Thursday afternoon. I tried to trim my own hair (will I ever learn?!) and came in to have it fixed. I had a ballpark idea of what I wanted, and Natalie was a great listener and took what I said and articulated what she was going to do to achieve what I wanted. She cuts hair dry, so she flat ironed it flawlessly and then set to work. It came out great!!! She is so detail oriented! She spent a lot of time on the front, adding texture, then examining it, then more snipping, then looking again. She is very skilled and did such a great job! I feel so great in this cut. Pros: stylist was nice. Cons: I went to Salon Lux because I had a coupon for a free brow wax and my roommate gets her haircut here. Apparently, both Salon Lux's have the same phone number, so when I showed up, I was told my appt was at the salon on Court St. I didn't have time to go down there, so they did wax my brows and lip at this one. I was quite disappointed. I have never had anything waxed where I was sitting. i have always laid down which I would think makes it easier and a better job is typically done. I was told that the spa with the lay down table is at the court st. location, so maybe they are able to do a better job? I knew almost right away that this was not going to be worth it because the it did not hurt at all when the wax was ripped off. I don't know what kind of wax they use, but it does not get all the hair out. After being waxed, I had to go home and pluck everything that was missed (she missed a bunch on my lip also, but that hurts way too bad to pluck). Not only did she miss a ton of hairs and hardly trimmed the eyebrow hair, she got wax in my bangs, which she had clipped back! I don't know how in the heck that could happen.... Oh yea....and it's quite expensive...$35 for a brow and lip...$20 for brows, $15 and just for the lip which took less than five minutes (which is what I paid). should have gone to Tigerlily... read more

Well I'm all about orignality and this is the original spot; however both are Aces in my book! Shoot I'll get my hair did in their parking lot as long as Heather Johnson is on the job! She is my religeon when it comes to hair. And it pretty much is a religeous experience (I mean this in a good way)! From the soothing scalp massages, hip cuts and color jobs to things as simple as the decor, tunes playing in the background and unique locally made accesories sold as well. CAn't forget all the AVEDA products they sell as well. Makeup, hair care and skin care to name a few... Always service with a smile from start to finish. I was only in the chair for 20 minutes and when I got home to wash and see how it came out, it was terrible. My hair is uneven. I went in for a haircut in the middle of my trip to SLO. I've been to Aveda Salons before so I felt comfortable going to Salon Lux. I made an appointment the day before (pleasant phone call). When I arrived for my appointment I was instantly pleased with the environment (the hair dryers in the ceiling are so cool!) and went to check in. I went to the restroom, put on my robe (the button is in the front, don't mess up and put it on backwards like me) and then met Natalie, my stylist. Natalie was fantastic. She really took her time, I've never had a stylist be so thorough on my hair. I was just getting a simple cut - some layers and a lot of thinning - but she treated it like a truly important project. My only problem is that I don't live here! If I did, I'd see Natalie regularly in the Salon! read more

I had not seen a pair of shears in over 5 months, and before that even longer. She took a look at my long flat locks like a sculptor judges a block of marble. I am so glad I let her have free reign to give me anything but short bangs (at my fiance's request). She said she loved me with long hair and got to work meticulously layering what was once a darker looking Cousin It on my head. Now I'm sporting a healthy head of hair without any pesky split ends. When I say no split ends, I mean, she was even able to trim the breakage that would always annoy me because it was not "surface" hair, as Angela educated me. I have gotten my hair cut by her several times and she is the sweetest person and genuinely cares about her clients. I can't say enough good things about this shop and the fabulous cut and color I walked out with. I have very fine hair with numerous cowlicks. The back grows in the direction of a tornado. Katelin gave me the best cut I have ever had. I was nervous as we all are when trying a new stylist. Katelin took time to teach me how to maintain the look. Today I washed and styled it on my own and my hair behaved for the first time ever without much effort on my part. Amazing what a good haircut will do for unruly hair. I hired this Salon to do my hair for my wedding and they NEVER SHOWED UP! I went to this Salon all the time when I lived in SLO and trusted them completely. I emailed the salon manager and stylist personally with pictures of how I wanted my hair to look, very simple down & curly was all I was going for, and she seemed so nice and helpful and said she would be there at 2pm on my wedding day and never showed!! after calling the salon over a dozen times, emailing her, she just completely failed and luckily I have great bridesmaids who were able to rally and probably did a better job than this Salon would have. If you have anything important pending, do NOT go here, they will drop the ball. Hey at least I saved a couple hundred bucks I suppose.
