5 stars is subjective but coming from Chicago This Is 5 stars. Why? First I drove here 8 hours but still no airplanes meaning it's covid friendly and I save money. Second, the lift tickets are $42($65 normally) a day are you kidding?Granted we got a discount since we stayed at the best western by the entrance. Also, rentals were $30(discounted). Third, the runs are long and wide. Long enough that I have to stop half way thru. The jumps on the terrain park are humongous. Came here for a day of skiing and was pretty pleased with the actual skiing aspect. As a beginner, I appreciated that there were marked beginner runs on the map. In practice, we ended up just staying on the bunny slopes since it was a little confusing/intimidating navigating the trails and trying to get to the beginner runs. The stars being knocked off are mainly for the patrons/lax covid protocols. There were several folks just chilling indoors in the rental area with masks off, in front of staff who didn't say anything. I know anti-maskers get belligerent so I don't really fault the staff, but it was definitely an uncomfortable environment to step into. Second, as 2nd time skiers, we stayed on the bunny slopes, but there were some advanced kids jumping off the conveyer belt early, cutting folks off, and again no staff enforcement of the rules/safety. Also, due to covid, they have staggered start times for day passes, but they all cost the same. So basically we signed up for 1:30pm slot, but paid the same as folks who arrived at 9:30am. They should def reduce the price for later slots since you're really just getting a half day. Finally the bathrooms were super gross. Don't think I'd go out of my way to return here, but if you're already in the Duluth area looking for something to kill time on an afternoon this is a great option. read more

It is a fun place to go with kids. The attractions are too short for the prices they charge. When we went to buy tickets the employee at the desk told us we should buy them online because it would be $20 cheaper. We then went to do everything online and hit several obstacles with their website. We then went to the front desk and asked for help and we were able to get a little farther before hitting another obstacle. After thirty minutes we were able to get all of the tickets purchased and then still had to go back to the front desk to claim our tickets. Great option in northern Minnesota- went during the holidays which led to unbelievably slow lines to get our tickets. I would recommend going on a non peak day or evening to avoid a 1-2 hour wait to ski or snowboard. Despite this, the skiing was good with a nice mix of runs for all abilities. A great ski area and a fun all season alpine slide. Spirit Mtn has a variety of ski runs for beginner, intermediates and experts. The view from the top and the view on several runs overlooking the river, Lake Superior and Duluth are fantastic. The chair lifts are fast and get you to the runs you need to ski on. In the non snow months, there is an adventure park w our favorite, the alpine coaster ride. Other features include chair lift rides, mountain bike trails a plenty, mini golf, and much more. This place is always changing, adding new fun features to make it a complete year around fun place for families, and just for the fun of it. read more

We planned our trip, booked hotel rooms, took days off work and pulled the kids from school to take a Spirit ski vacation! The trail reports showed everything open and snow conditions great! However, after a five hour drive and a night in the hotel, we were greeted by the sign out front informing us that they had decided to close for the days we were there. Spirit Mountain is simply beautiful. Such a peaceful setting for a cherished event. We were invited to witness the nuptials of Brianna & Bryan McBride. It first takes place in the back lawn behind their main buildings. A decorated pergola serves as the altar for the vows. The lush green grounds are well landscaped as well. The reception area is hard to miss. Once you park your car you have to walk past the banquet room to attend the wedding. It's a generous size building with the main reception area, an upstairs which they had the children up there playing and a separate room for the catering. The wait staff and bartending staff were all very professional. They hosted a lovely event that will be remembered by everyone in attendance. Congrats to the bride and groom! read more

I can only review the Timber Twister coaster, but it's SO much fun! My 59 year old mom loved it, so it truly is great for all ages! I would advise you do double riders instead of single riders if possible, because you go faster (it's also cheaper)! If the driver in the back just leans all the way in to it, your combined weights will zoom you down that mountain! And that's kind of the best part: The trip down the mountain is self-propelled. You control the car to go as fast or slow as you'd like, but there is no steering to worry about obviously, the track you're secured to does that for you. You just push the levers to go, and release them to slow or stop. There are some beautiful scenic overlooks to enjoy if you're able to 'brake' your car in time to focus on the view. It's just so awesome to speed by huge trees and rocks and not die! For all you Twilight fanboys and girls out there, this coaster honestly reminds me of how the Cullen vampires must feel while running and leaping through the woods and trees at high speeds. The ride itself goes by pretty quickly, but is worth every penny! The only thing that would make it any better is if they had 2 parallel tracks and you could race your friends down! read more

Great skiing. Some of the best runs in Minnesota and you see the lake from most of the runs on a clear day. Really great staff. Rental gear is a solid deal. Lots of space for groups. Food is good. One of the cleaner places to ski. By cleaner I mean the restrooms are clean and there is not garbage all over like many of the twin cities ski places. I have been here 3 times in the last 3 years and plan on going back. Really a nice place to ski. read more

The high speed lift at the bottom of the back diamonds seemed delightfully fast over those GeNeRoUsLy long runs with a lot of fun little rollers & similar to entertain all skill levels, even Pro for sure. I would highly recommend this jem. We came to this oddball place just outside of Duluth during a trip to the area and had a blast. The Timber Twister is awesome and totally bizarre. Riding a roller coaster through the woods is a really strange feeling, and it's cool that you can just ride it with one other person and adjust your speed to your liking. I really enjoyed it, and wish it would have been longer. We also did the mini golf, which I must say was rather mundane and boring (not really all that imaginative of a setup) when compared to the alpine roller coaster. Definitely check this place out for the coaster, if nothing else. read more

We have been coming here for years and I know they have run into financial issues over the last number of years but I don't think we will be back. First off the lines to get tickets can be close to a 3 hour wait. Totally unacceptable! Being first-timers to Spirit Mountain (as we live in Hawaii), we were very excited to have a chance to play in the snow. We decided to go on Friday afternoon for the tubing experience. We have a 5 year old and he was excited to try this. We arrived earlier than 4 pm for the tubing and walked around the area. (We went to the wrong area to begin with but it was cool to see the young kids learning to ski and snowboard.) At 4 pm, we signed our waivers and got our 2 hour pass. Off we went to the tubing area. Sonce we were so early, we had the hill to ourselves for almost an hour before another group came. The employees were VERY helpful. They were super friendly and wonderful with our son. (Those who have kids or work with kids understand how important this is as parents.) From getting hooked up to sliding down the hill, they were all so helpful. It helped to make our son's first snow experience a VERY positive one. Even after the other group came they were still very helpful with our son. We wer very impressed with them and hope to return soon for a different snow experience. Thank you to all the wonderful employees for making our first experience a fantastic one! read more

I've only been skiing once at Spirit Mt- it was a high school field trip and I think I ran into a tree. So, this isn't a review of the skiing- it's a review of the Spirit Mountain Wedding facilities. I am planning my wedding for next year and just booked Spirit Mt for my reception. Here is my story, in brief: Last Friday, I booked Spirit Mt as a reception hall for next year on X date. On Monday I found out that the church I want to get married in is already taken on that date! I called Spirit Mt in a panic, wanting to switch to the next weekend. Of course, they already had people booked for the weekend I wanted to switch to. But, somehow- they were able to rearrange everything just so I could get married on the weekend I wanted. I would never have expected such supreme effort from a place which is so popular- they didn't need my business, they could have just told me "so sorry, we are booked every other weekend- and by the way you lose your deposit". But they didn't! They actually made everything work. I knew Spirit Mt was going to be a beautiful place to get married. What I didn't know was that they would actually care about me and my wedding. :) read more

Skied in early March on a bluebird day. Groomers were great and the long blues enjoyable for Midwest skiing. Just don't expect anything steep or difficult. You won't find it. Our biggest issue is that with it being such a nice day, where were the outside seating, food and beverage sales!? I would have figured that the city of Duluth would have figured out that in a pandemic that ski hills make money off of outside food and beverages. No one likes going to their car in a muddy parking lot to eat/drink out of a cooler. It was a day for grabbing a burger and a beer at the outside grill and eating it while basking in the sun. Um, duh, it's not the Alps, but I can't believe how quality it is for being basically right in town, and in the midwest to boot. It's a fun place to go for the day, but obviously it's not a destination ski spot (not that I believe anyone thinks that...). Lines aren't too bad at the lifts, it's affordable-ish. Shuttles from the parking lot to the lodge. I must, however, complain about the food. Is there anywhere to go besides the cafeteria-style burger place there?? Somebody send me a message if this is no longer the case, and I will edit my review. I have to believe that if they had a real restaurant, that people would go. Nice close to Duluth downtown . It overlooks Lake Superior. I counted four chair lifts, a rope and carpet Rowan's a tubing slope. Snack bar is ok . Looked like nuked hot sandwiches, fries and chili. Selection is limited. Pepsi products on tap. read more

The campground is a great little hidden gem overlooking Duluth. It provides RV/electrical camping, but also walk-in tent sites. We only tent camp and love to walk-in. They are quite private and you don't feel like you are right next to the other campers. Some have boulders protecting your campsite a little bit too. Often there isn't other people walking in, so it's even more secluded and wonderful. The bathroom showers are nothing to write home to mom about, but at least there is hot water. This is why I can't give the campground 5 stars. We love the close proximity to Duluth, affordable rates, easy access to day trips on the Superior Hiking trail, spectacular views of Duluth/Superior and the Great Lake Superior (during the day and at night), plus the option to check-out the amusement park rides Spirit Mountain offers. read more

The only thing I'd like to see if the mini golf area being wheelchair accessible. The course itself would allow a wheelchair to get through but there's a curb at each end of it. read more

the skiing here is good, however the people have some disrespect. there was lots of balls of ice thrown from lift and only one of the employees did anything to try and help... needless to say ice balls being thrown is dangerous to skiers. manager gretchen was rude and didn't try to help the situation. read more

I ordered some fires and while waiting in line, for 30 minutes, I continually say the people in the back of the kitchen reaching out and eating food off of the plates. Spirit Mountain has amazing views of Lake Superior you will for sure enjoy while skiing through the woods. And during non snow season the timber coaster is certain to delight! It is a great place to ski for families with beginner skiers. The terrain is rather flat yet longer runs. Love the high speed chairlift!!! My only "beef" with this place is the total complete over marketing to ski clubs on the weekends. As soon as the 3:00PM night special kicks in the place is overran with WAY, WAY too many skiers (ski clubs, church groups, Boy Scouts). The place literally has dozens of busses showing up at 2:00PM, which turns a day of skiing into crash avoidance on the slopes. So I guess ski early or on the weekdays only. read more

I went skiing on a Monday night which I figured would be a nice slow night with good conditions. It turns out based on our own conclusions that 3 runs don't have lights on them so they are closed after dark, 2 more were overrun by ski patrol training and finally a sixth run was closed for racing every Monday. I wouldn't have cared if half the runs were closed if staff had explained that or given us a reason why. Ticket counter employee wasn't the best, when we had no idea what he was telling us to do, "Oh you haven't been here before". No sorry, we haven't, why don't you make us feel like we shouldn't be here a little more? Rental guy was new and only said two things, "try these on" and "they ok". Anyways good conditions on the slopes but just disappointed in lack of service. Someone having explained to us some runs are closed tonight because of these reasons would have made the experience much more enjoyable for dropping $54/person for 6 skiable runs. The live musician in the bar was great! Too bad the bar closes at 9 when it was still packed at 8:45. read more

i drove four hours to come to spirit mountain, the day started great. there are great runs the lifts are fast all around a great time. but there was kids throwing ice off the lift at people riding, like how stupid could you be. you should have lift operators watching for that and their parents should be beaten with a stick. their manager Gretchen was a complete b**** did not try and help at all just told us to leave. if you can go to lutsen do it so much better and kids actually know how to act there. read more

The Alpine coaster was really fun, but $10 for one ride wasn't worth it. So, we elected to get all day wristbands instead. They were $40 each for unlimited rides. But, there are only three rides plus a mini golf course. It was definitely not worth it. The zip line was really disappointing and short. The chair lift was your standard chair lift. A pretty ride, but nothing special. The mini golf course was the worst I've been to. Poorly constructed. Ugly. Bad materials. Skip it. There are much better things to do in the Duluth area. If you want fun rides, save your money for an amusement park. read more

We went here in the summer for the Timber Twister roller coaster and it was AWESOME. Think of a one or two person coaster car riding all through the gorgeous trees and along Lake Superior. When have you ever ridden a roller coaster right through the trees??? We had a complete blast and I would highly recommend it. They also had a zipline, which I would not recommend at all. Short, slow, and boring. Stick to the roller coaster...you won't be disappointed. read more

I went to spirit Mountain expecting an amazing mini golf course compared to how nice the skiing is. It was one of the worst mini golf course I've ever been too. It was all black no color except for white, the only decoration was literal tape, taped into a picture, very small. Just pathetic. read more

My second year in a row here for the USSA Midwest Regional Freestyle Event. This place is so much bigger than it looks. The trails are always in great shape and the chalet is huge and family friendly. Plus they have a fantastic half pipe. If you drive at a "quick pace", only two hours from the Twin Cities. My boyfriend is from Duluth and we've had season passes for the last 2 years. The real deal is in the passes if you get up there often. Very reasonable. Plus you get $5 pitchers in the Chalet. the mountain itself isn't very wide or tall, total 700 ft approx. We stopped in here specifically to ride the alpine coaster. The goal was met and the coaster was so much fun! The overall experience wasn't the best. The road there was awful and our turn into the adventure park crossed paths with a mountain biking trail. There were about five or six bikers blocking both the road and path, just sitting there. There wasn't a sign to warn the drivers there was a trail there and some of the bikers were flying across the road without even a glance at whether or not anyone was coming. The bathrooms were disgusting. There was a mini golf course that no one was monitoring and kids had taken it over. It's a wonder it was still standing by the time we left. Speaking of that we were in line for the coaster for over and hour. It would be great if they could give a heads up to how long you will be waiting. read more

I am a fan, a definite fan of Spirit Mountain. I grew up snowboarding and skiing, and this was a hill that I've been to many times. It is pretty decent, I have definitely seen better, but for the location, the size, and the amount of people who come here all the time. It is a great hill. Great for beginners, and great for the advanced skiers who want to take day off and enjoy the slopes. The top of the hill provides an excellent view of Lake Superior. The only issue that I have ever encountered was the lack of skill in some people. You know how it is, wherever you go, you WILL run into someone who should not be skiing.. at least alone.. yet. Or those who have complete disregard for anyone on the hill. Tons of kids come here. School trips are here a lot. so sometimes it really isn't that fun. But it is the only hill in Duluth, so you should expect that. Overall, It's good! read more
