Overall, I really enjoyed this stay! You can't beat the location for the price. We stayed in Room 2…read moreand it was a way nicer than I expected based on the pictures. The main building also looks a lot less creepy than the photos (lol) but here's what you NEED to know if you're going to stay here: Parking is so, so convenient. We're talking 1 free pass right in front of the building with (paid) parking literally everywhere else if you're bringing a second vehicle. Location is 5 stars!!! Very walkable!! We walked up Superior Street to Duluth Trading Co, a very cute shop called Hucklebeary, Fitgers, and Portland Malt Shoppe, then all the way back to the inn. And do not miss Duluth's Best Bread!! It's so easy to venture around Canal Park and even the aquarium is walking distance (use the Slip bridge just past Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory). I loved the layout of the room. The bed and pillows were so comfy, and there was a cute bar seating set-up looking out the windows - although could be awkward if people are on the patio. There's a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker with a pitcher-thing of water. You get two BOGO beer coupons from Fitgers as well, which is a fun treat. The only downside is that it's the last hotel/inn on the hotel row, right behind a public beach and lakefront walk, with a public bathroom adjacent to it in a small "park" (grassy area). This meant that unfortunately yes, the other reviews are true and there are some skeezy looking people specifically loitering in the bathroom area. My boyfriend and I sat on the front patio for breakfast, walked the lakefront walk during the day and evening, but felt that sticking to the inner road (Canal Park Drive) at night was best as a precaution. We kept the blinds closed in the room whenever we weren't there but never felt unsafe in the first floor room. Like any other city, just be aware of your surroundings especially at night and you'll be fine! There is a sauna (we didn't use it because it's outdoors on the side patio and just felt weird), cornhole, and a small fire pit with chairs looking out towards Superior. The building is old, so we heard our neighbors walking and talking upstairs. With the tv on it wasn't bad, plus the inn has "quiet hours" 10pm-8am that everyone surrounding us followed. You do have to be pretty self-sufficient to stay here. Everything is key code access, no physical keys or cards. There aren't staff or front desk or even common areas (besides the outdoor fun spaces) on-site so if you need help you have to call/text them between 8am-8pm. Our a/c didn't work the first night (and the windows don't open), and when I texted about the issue the following morning the issue was quickly taken up and solved within a few hours by the manager on duty. Thanks Kristin!! If it wasn't for the sweltering hot first night and the sketchy park people, definitely would have given this stay 5 stars!!

We are completely satisfied with our stay at the Oliver Inn. We knew when booking that some rooms…read morewere 'hostel' style and that the property was accessed with codes and such. Even after reading bad, outdated reviews, we decided to give it a go. So glad we did! Snively's lounge on the first floor is cute and pleasant. We enjoyed our 2 for 1 beer credits included with our room. This is a historical building, there will be noise. But, we weren't disrupted. The Rathskeller speakeasy down stairs is too cute. They weren't playing any jazz (which is common I guess) during our stay, which was fine by us. My hubby and I were celebrating our anniversary, and we loved our choices. Parking is simple enough, across the street in a secure ramp for $12 a day. If you read any reviews that there is a stinky Japanese restaurant on site.....that is outdated info. We stayed in room 3, two twin beds, lower level, shared bathrooms (2)....both have showers and we never encountered both being in use at once. Beds were comfy and the bedding was soft. We will definitely be back. Personally, I like no windows; I prefer to sleep in a cave. Lol. The elevator was a nice surprise. I need my knees replaced; stairs are not my friend. Lol.

The boutique feel really came through -- the room was well-appointed, clean, and had thoughtful touches that made it feel more personal than a chain hotel. While there wasn't staff onsite, they were easy to reach by phone if needed, which worked fine during my stay. One thing to note is the location. While it was convenient to some attractions during the day, the surrounding area didn't feel the safest in the evening. If you're looking for a cozy, comfortable stay and don't mind limited in-person staffing, this hotel is a nice choice.

General - I stayed here for a night for work while in the Duluth area…read more Location - You are right on the hill in downtown Duluth within walking distance to Canal Park and downtown's offerings. Parking is included in your stay and is found through a garage on the first floors of the hotel. So if you are staying during an popular event, this might help with parking woes. Rooms & Building - This hotel is a tower so you can get some really great views of the Lake Superior and the harbor or just downtown. Rooms are fairly spacious and include a fridge and microwave. Amenities - Crazy enough for the size of the hotel, there are two pool areas which is nice. I was staying during the week so had no issue finding a cozy spot all to myself in the hot tub on the 8th floor after work. Food - I did not eat or drink here during my stay. Breakfast is not included in your stay (boo) but there is a restaurant onsite that does offer breakfast. I was lucky that they had coffee in the lobby at least. Vibe - Easy going and super friendly staff. No complaints. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. Price & Final Verdict - If you want to be right in the heart of Duluth and not have to haggle over parking, this location is just right for you. Parking is included which is nice since they could easily charge for being downtown. I enjoyed my stay and would stay again if the price was right!

Fantastic!! This was absolutely one of the best Airbnbs we have stayed in, and we have stayed in…read moredozens across the country. Full disclosure: I think we got lucky, we definitely stayed in the best room, #11. It's a 1 bedroom suite with a king bed, TWO TVs and a full kitchen. And when I say full kitchen, I mean it had everything you could ever need to cook with or eat off of. Including wine glasses, pots and pans, even a set of casseroles in several different sizes (you might be in Wisconsin if...)! It has a full-size fridge and an eat-in kitchen. And two entrances! This probably used to be the owners suite. It's in the center of the motel, and it sticks out in the back, so you are sort of separate from the other units and surrounded by windows. Several times we actually forgot we were staying in a motel room. They have literally thought of everything here. It's a very clean feeling remodel. I loved the little touches like the dual closets in the bedroom and the heat lamp in the bathroom and the full spice rack and cookbooks. All the art and tchotchkes throughout the unit made it so homey. So often Airbnbs are lacking in decor. They had two different kinds of coffee makers PLUS an electric teakettle. And they actually had paper towels!! I can't tell you how many times I have stayed in Airbnbs and there's nothing to wipe up spills! Also, it seems like such a small thing, but Kleenex is so necessary and so often overlooked. They had REAL Kleenex in the bathroom AND the bedroom. And not that sandpaper generic crap! Actual soft Kleenex! We LOVE this motel!!
