This is a pretty standard campground but it has the plus of being really close to downtown Duluth, so if you are in the area but not wanting to spend $100 or $200 a night for a hotel in town, it could totally be a way to do a trip to Duluth on the cheap as long as you're willing to camp. The campground is easy to access and easy to navigate. The sites are not big and you are pretty close to your neighbors with no trees or anything to divide you. It's really kind of just a big open field, rather than a campground where the sites are near each other but have a little privacy. And there are lots of people with RVs and campers, so it seems like there's a lot of activity around you. But generally people were really nice and courteous to each other. There are real bathrooms but they are communal. While part of me really enjoyed this luxury having camped in places where there were not such amenities, the bathrooms were nothing fancy and were heavily used. I don't mean to imply they were gross... but at the same time, I would recommend bringing a good pair of flip flops or shower shoes as I didn't really want to go barefoot. The people running the camp were plenty nice, and there's even a little store for things you might have forgotten. But we wound up buying ice and things off site since we found the prices to be a bit too high. Overall, a fine place to throw up a tent and sit around a campfire.

Beautiful wooded setting with views of the lake. If you walk full circle perimeter it is 0.41 mile. Nice walk for the dogs!

Great location, fantastic views, and extremely nice management. Fills up quickly over the weekend. We will definitely stay here again, loved our stay! Not well marked from the road- turn at sign for Will Munger trail and follow road straight to campground.

View from RV window. St Louis River behind the tree line.

The walk-in sites in general are all amazing, you're secluded from everyone else but still close to the amenities. Site 83 is about a 4-minute walk from where you park your car. There are two tent pads and plenty of space. It's a beautiful site--book it early! The amenities at the campground were great, plenty of places to recycle, fill up water, and throw out trash. The bathrooms are also very nice, but they are some of the busiest bathrooms I've ever seen! There are plenty of hiking trails as well, a great visitor center and gift shop, and it is an all around lovely state park.

I'm not super experienced at camping, but the campsites felt quite close together to me. Compared to other places we've been, the sites are much less private. AMENITIES: 5/5 The amount of water spickets and bathrooms around the site were great, and the showers/main bathroom facilities were nice! STATE PARK: 5/5 We loved walking a bit of the state park over the weekend! The suspension bridge is super cool, and it's really fun to walk on and explore the unique rock formations along the water.

5 STARS We just…read morespent a week at Red Pine and loved it. The club house has very nice bathrooms and the shower is very large as well. There are 3 washers and dryers. The sites were not on top of each others. We had plenty of room. It was gravel for the pad and grass everywhere else. They have a very nice campground picnic area and lots of areas to fish. The canoe and paddle boats are free to use. They have created a lot of trails/grass paths where you can walk/play. The park was quiet. But it was a nice mix of kids, seasonals and short timers. If we camped in the Duluth area we would stay here again.

However, the water in the women's shower (which there is only one of, it made it hard for our girls group of 4 to shower in a timely manner) is so hot you feel scalded on the coolest setting.... They need to turn down the water heater before someone gets seriously hurt. The spots aren't overly large, but the park is quiet! There isn't a lot of shade, but you can sit by the lake at a bench in the shade. And then, there is the elephant in the room, who puts trail cams up on all their trails? This place must be high crime that they need so many. If you need somewhere to stay in a pinch like we did, and you have an RV with a shower, this is a decent place to stay. But, it's not a destination stay.
