Only 2 classes in and I'm pretty much sold in this place. Only thing it's missing are showers. as…read moreyou need them after taking a class, especially hot yoga, I left that class as a sloppy wet rag . Exhausted but in a good way. Last night I took a yin style restorative class for an hour. I'm recovering from a pulled right hip muscle and needed some relief. I had a massage 2 days ago a week after I really tweaked it. And last night's session was just what I needed. As I was getting stiffer over the weekend from just sitting down. Only so much one can do with a pulled muscle. Long story short, I limped into the studio and walked out happy and relaxed. Such a great session!

I took many classes here from 2024-25: regular (non-heated) vinyasa, slow flow vinyasa, hot…read morePilates, and restorative yoga. Overall, my experience has been good and I would recommend the studio. However, a few things you should know before you go: - Classes can get very crowded (I don't believe there's a cap on students) so sometimes there will be very little space for you to put down your mat and stretch. - There are a lot of heated classes here, and if a non-heated class follows a heated class, the studio will still be warm. If you don't mind warm rooms it won't be an issue, but as someone who really can't tolerate exercising in rooms that are not cool/borderline cold, this was a big reason that I eventually stopped coming here. - Parking in downtown Palo Alto is difficult during peak hours (after 5 PM on weekdays and especially on weekends between 10 AM to 7 PM), so you should budget parking time accordingly. With all that said, here are more detailed impressions of each type of class: - Vinyasa: Nice flow sequence. Lots of attention to breath work, mindfulness, form. Plenty of modifications offered. Soothing environment. - Slow flow vinyasa: Same as above, but at a slower pace, with somewhat less challenging movements. - Hot Pilates: This class is incredibly popular and gets very crowded on weekends. It is more of a Pilates-inspired aerobics class than classical slow-flow Pilates: the music is loud and upbeat, there is a lot of squeezing and pulsing done to the beat, cardio (jumps, mountain climbers, etc.), and light resistance work with 1-3 pound weights and resistance bands. The class is too fast-paced for teachers to offer individual corrections, but they do provide modifications. I think the room is heated above 100 degrees but I'm not sure; either way, you will sweat buckets. If you like heated workouts, you will love this, but as someone who struggles even with warm rooms I simply couldn't cope with the heat. To each their own though. - Restorative yoga: The poses are relaxing but the teacher talks a lot for a restorative class. Most of the time, she is giving Buddhist-inflected encouragements to self-reflection, which I think I would appreciate if I was more interested in Buddhism but sometimes I just want to rest.

As sad as it was to lose my local Ananda community, I had the chance to move to the Ananda Community in Mountain View and become part of the most dynamic, centered, compassionate, self-aware group of people I have ever known. I love the opportunities to be of service to others as they find their spiritual path. The Ananda Temple is not really the physical structure on the corner of El Camino and College. The congregation of Truth seekers who come together to serve, meditate, practice yoga, and have fun...those people are the true Ananda Temple. I love the diversity. I love Sunday Services. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a combination of smoke (maybe incense or sage that has gone bad?), BO, and other grossness. I also happened to be in a space near another classmate who seemingly wasn't wearing deodorant, and it was making my nose and eyes burn throughout the entire class. I know places like SoulCycle post a reminder on the wall to practice good hygiene, so it might be a good idea to have a similar reminder posted here. Even with the overpowering, awful smell aside- the studio just seems really, really dirty. There are scuff marks all over the studio wall, it doesn't seem like they sweep/mop/swiffer (and since everyone is barefoot and the studio is heated, it seems like a breeding ground for bacteria). I usually go to pilates classes, SoulCycle, and Barry's where they're pretty diligent about keeping the studios clean, and after taking this class here I realized that a clean studio is something I'm willing to pay extra for. I kept my belongings with me instead of putting them into a locker, so I cannot speak to the cleanliness of the lockers. After just one class, I cancelled the rest of my free week. I've been to one other Corepower studio previously, I believe in either Emeryville or Oakland, and had a wonderful experience at that location, so it seems like Corepower locations are just hit or miss (and this one is a gigantic miss).

I was initially on a 4 pack, but enjoyed my workout so much I decided to get an unlimited membership. I've taken Slow Flow, Mobility, Restore, and Sculpt & Flow and all of them are amazing for the body. Since I've written about my experience on Google Maps already, I'll write about my new one today when I took a Sculpt & Flow class with Mary recently and she was so nice! She saw me and recognized that I haven't taken a class with her yet, and she spent a lot of time before class to talk to me about what to expect and also encouraged me a lot, since I was really nervous. She even checked in on me after class too! Her attention to her students and knowing them by name makes it feel so much like a community. Also shoutout to the front desk who I approached and asked about Sculpt & Flow before the class too. Before class while waiting for the studio to be cleaned she also spoke with me about what weight to choose, and even went to the back with me and helped me find what I need. I haven't done yoga in years much less in a class format, but the community and everyone makes it so much easier to get into it :)

Classes are in-studio, online, and hybrid, usually well-populated but not overcrowded. Class pricing is in line with this area but a better deal with a bigger package. By now I especially enjoy the morning 2-3s with Naomi and Miri's 3-4 on Monday nights. I do recommend the 3-4, but know that the teacher brakes for nobody and expects you to try. Don't be daunted--the teachers have a variety of perspectives but are all extremely experienced and encouraging. They are able to attend to every student without disruption to the class flow, which is tricky. I've gone through rough patches with yoga--but overall, with the guidance of this studio, I have evolved successfully into a regular inversions practice and more advanced backbends. I started out too weak to open a door without getting shoved away, so it's a dramatic improvement. (Still working with tight hamstrings...) However, a lot of folks are here to improve or maintain good health or simply to relax during the week, and you don't need to develop an athletic practice. It's a great environment to find what works for you. I recommend the intro deal for trying out different teachers. Also they offer workshops around many topics and host senior teachers from around the country. The original owners retired this year so they do have new owners, but they came from within and are well-known to longstanding students. And the transition has been easy aside from a little drama with the new online class reg system. Start/continue your yoga journey here--you won't regret giving CYC a try.
