This laundromat is very old-school and fully coin-operated. There is no card or tap-to-pay option…read moreon the machines. An ATM is available on-site so you can withdraw cash and exchange it for coins. The photos online show older white machines where you can still open the lid after starting the wash. The machines currently in use here are different--once the door is closed and the cycle starts, it cannot be reopened until the wash is finished, so be sure everything is inside before starting. Most standard washers cost $5, the larger washer I used was $6.75, and there is an extra-large washer that costs $13. Drying is not free. Dryers cost $2.25 for one hour. All laundry essentials needed to clean your clothes--detergent, fabric softener, and related supplies--are available for purchase. They also sell small snacks, such as chips and candy (Snickers were $1.75). There is a bathroom on-site, and the space appears to be a long-established laundromat that handles a lot of wash-and-fold orders. Customer service was brief and not very upbeat when I arrived. The staff member seemed busy and may have been working alone with a large volume of laundry, which could explain the interaction, but the greeting came across as a bit abrupt. Overall, the laundromat is functional and gets the job done if you're prepared for a cash-only, coin-operated setup, but the experience is very no-frills.

The laundromat has snack and drink machines and there's a bakery next door, plus everything you need at Chicago Produce if you're famished! Very clean inside! The service person helped me figure out how to get a card as a first time customer and how to use the machines. It was a little bit daunting at first but after you get your card it's easy. I don't mind getting a card if it means I don't have to mess with getting quarters and can just get set up with a credit card. So use your credit card to buy a laundry card. They occasionally have a special where the laundry card will get charged with an extra $5 free if you load it with $25. So that's what I did. The card itself is free for new customers. If you lose it and have a bunch of money on it you can get a replacement for $2. Once you have your laundry card, pick the machine you want to use and yplace it on the card reader on the card holder above the green screen. Wait for the red screen to say "push" and you can choose the temperature for the dryer you want or start the washing machine. It sounds complicated but once you test the card on the little ledge above the green screen you can push one of the buttons to start either the upper or lower dryer and that's how you tell it which one to add time to. One touch of the card is 10 minutes. On the red screen "FILL" means go ahead and put your wet laundry in it. That's just so you don't waste time. Then put your card on the reader. The dryers run pretty hot on "high" so I set them to "low" half way through. They sell large and small bottles of laundry soap and fabric softener dryer sheets. They have All Free & Clear which is hypoallergenic too.

I made sure to use the dryers that had very smooth drums and my clothes were perfect. This place is very clean. Well, sickening clean. I hate excess use of cleaning supplies. Can't stand the smell, to it was like I fell into a tub of pine-sol. Whatever, I'd rather they be clean than the opposite like some of the places I typically use. My boyfriend likes that they have coffee and snacks and free wifi. The cost to do a load varies and you have to wait a bit to use the smaller machines (being single means smaller loads). We didn't mind. We just chilled, people watched, caught some Pokemon and got clean clothes. It works.
