I keep coming back and forth with this place after the first awful experience I should have stayed away.. however I came back with family a few times even updated my review and it was ok but once again this place has been a nightmare. The employee working before closing she was awful to deal with. We walked in about 45 mins before closing and she had already started putting stuff away.. fine I get it. But when I asked if they had something she gets an attitude and was like NO WE ARE CLOSING I said ok (the coolers were EMPTY) I asked if they had any ice cream to go ready because sometimes they do. She says to me WE ARE CLOSING... it was literally 45 mins before closing. She did NOT want to help at all and after that experience I refuse to try again. She clearly didn't want to help customers and was only focused on leaving. read more

Just moved here and looked for a good donut shop.... This one tastes like Dunkin' donut and maybe worse. I choose their donut of the month (apple pie filling). Around where the filling is, it tasted raw! The store seemed clean and the girl who served me was friendly but when I had a question about a donut, she didn't know. Also she said the filings were "sent here except for the custard, we haven't had that in a while for some reason". I was under the impression it was all made there at the bakery?? This place was near a pizza place we were trying and they were selling their speciality donuts for a $1.00 each. Well we had to get a few to sample. The Samoa affectionately named after the Girl Scout cookies was outrageous. Loaded with coconut and chocolate on top. We are trying a blueberry, strawberry, Nutella and apple donut too. Really cute place for some gourmet donuts and coffee. We skipped the coffee, so my review is for the donuts. They're akin to Duck Donuts in flavor options...fun ones like Nutella stuffed, butterfinger topping, maple glazed with bacon crumble, and Spilt Milk which is an Oreo cream-filled. They have a glass wall so you can view the donut making process when they're in production mode. Service is excellent. Our first visit we were served by a sweet older woman who remarked that she worked with kids with autism (noticing our own boys on the spectrum), and our second visit we were served by a very friendly and personable young man who explained all the various flavors they had for sale that day. Highly recommend you pay them a visit when you're in the mood for donuts! read more

Cute place just over the bridge from Ocean Isle. We came over for the ice cream and each flavor was yummy. The milkshake was small compared to the price so did not necessarily have the value. The peach ice cream tasted fresh and the mango was sweet. The servers must have been overwhelmed because they weren't especially personable. They were efficient though. Bottom line: Spilt Milk has some amazing donuts, I enjoyed the ones I've had from there so far. Nice staff in a clean/modern shop setting. I recommend getting there early before the donut types you may want are sold out and gone for the day. The Deets: In seeing Spilt Milk on Yelp, I bookmarked it to try on my annual OIB trip and I finally got to try it out recently. It is located in the strip mall behind the Marathon gas station (next to the roundabout before you go onto the bridge/island). Going inside, there is a lot of space that is decorated nicely and looked clean/modern. They serve a lot of ice cream and donut choices, along with coffee and other beverages. Our trip this time involved getting a dozen donuts to take back to the beach house to enjoy. Split Milk did not disappoint in the variety of donuts shown on their menu displayed on TV monitors. Staff told us that they change up their flavors daily. The staff was very very patient in letting us look over the donut varieties and helpful/pleasant in assisting to pick out which ones we wanted to comprise our dozen to purchase to take back (please see the pic I got of the completed box). If I could point out any downside, it would be that many of our selections were out/not available for the day already at just after 10am. The interaction at the register was equally helpful/pleasant. No, they are not the cheapest donut to buy but when we got back and started eating them, I can see why they would be for a premium. So far, I have already enjoyed their cake donut and the Bavarian cream donut...amazing taste and very fresh. I would recommend trying Spilt Milk out for donuts based on my experience so far, and I cannot wait to try out their ice cream selections in the future! read more

I bought a dozen assorted in two boxes and it felt like there was nothing in them. The custard and cream marble sized whole filling had disappeared into the dry dough. At their prices, there should be much more. A Little Debbie offering has more gravitas. Over the years, I've bought here before, but it's either a bad "fluke" experience or this placed has changed. I should have known better when I could see that the offerings were smaller than normal. People will pay a little more for quality, but not for airy memories. read more

We've had the great donuts before, but tonight we came in for the ice cream! The space is bright, with ample room and a good amount of seating. Loved that there was an option for a mini cup! The ice cream was delicious and I think made in house. There were a few of us so we had the chocolate, the hazelnut, the Cookie Monster, the dulce de Lexie and the birthday cake. The Sanitation grade is currently a 93.5 and I can see why there were Flies all over the donuts and when one of the girls tried to give me one of the donuts that the flies had been hanging out on I told her No and explained how many flies were on the donuts and she stated "if we got rid of the donuts that all the flies were on we would have none " it's sad the owner is ok with this ,I am sure they could buy simple covers like bakeries have and that would solve all the problems ,but to intentionally be served a donut that a fly /flies have been hanging out on is so disrespectful, your lucky I gave you a 1 star read more

Such a great little spot! I've driven passed it so many times and decided we needed to go in today and WOW was that the right choice. Got a variety of donuts and every one of them was delicious! The staff was friendly and even with a long line inside they got us in and out quickly! Recommend to everyone who's at OIB!!!! Visiting from out of town, we were excited to try Spilt Milk for takeaway donuts and dine-in gelato. The gelato is very very good, actually. The service was exceptional, too. We were greeted with a smile, and the staff understood the flavors and menu items very well. The donuts were just "okay." They are better than Krispy Kreme, but I wouldn't write home about them. On top of that, they are a fair bit more expensive than the donut chains. It was later in the day when we went, so hear my judgment with that in mind. Overall, we were pleased with our visit. If we ever revisit Ocean Isle Beach, we would probably go back here for the Gelato. read more

We've been here a few times in the past and had good experiences; however, this past experience was not up to par. There was quite the line when we got there but it cleared out at as we were walking in. There was only a few people in front of us. But a young family/group took a good 10 min to order and get their stuff. Meanwhile, the two people working were racing around trying to make coffee and scoop ice cream and there's now 10 people waiting behind these people. During the busy season, you would think the owner/GM would supply a little better staffing so that customers could be taken care of in a more reasonable amount of time. Perfect place to go if you are looking to satisfy your sweet tooth craving. They have ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes, donuts, pastries and coffee/tea. Prices are reasonable and they are opened all day. It was super busy when we went but the wait wasn't long. There was only one lady working and she was so kind, patient and did a great job! We went to Spilt Milk a little earlier in the evening before dinner, because when on vacation you live on a different schedule than usual! The staff were all seated towards the back working on folding boxes but as soon as we walked in the door they all jumped up and welcomed our large family group! We were a large family group of 17 but the staff took the time to let us sample flavors of ice cream and answer any questions we had! The donuts and ice cream we had were delicious, will definitely come again when in the area for vacation! The only downside for our group was there were no dairy free or gluten free options for a couple members in our family. read more
