Oh Spice Route: I still crave you. It's only now that I've moved far far away from here and have had loads of Indian food in loads of places, I realise that Spice Route is really up there as one of the best I've had. I used to live right around the corner and order take-away all the time. :-) It's secretly disguised as a fast food place with a menu of burgers and chips to serve the needs of most Corkonians after a night out but if you look again, you'll find the impressive menu of Indian food that covers the wall by the front counter. The flavours, spices, everything seemed perfect every time I've gone here. The dal and saag dishes are my favourites and they always give you some poppadoms and chutney with your order. The place itself normally isn't the cleanest...it really is fast food style so expect some greasy tables. But even with that, it's totally worth it. It's seriously good Indian food. Seriously.

A small part of the menu.

This was a great place for Indian food in Cork. My colleague and I are both aficionados of Indian…read morecuisine and he was readily amenable when I suggested that style of fare for dinner. I looked on Yelp and a couple of other sites to find this place. It sported a pretty good set of reviews in the places I looked. It was only a ten-minute drive from our hotel so we decided to give it a try. Their location in the old Sunday's Well section of Cork actually looked a little run down. It might be off-putting for some but that shouldn't deter anyone from giving it a try. The interior is nicely kept, is a bit cozy, and provides a comfortable dining atmosphere. Our waitress was excellent. She was a very pleasant and helpful person who provided flawless service. It was a Monday and thus was not too busy, which I thought was a positive contributor to our experience. There were several good choices on the menu. My colleague started with veg samosas and was happy with them. I opted for the Chicken Pakora starter, which was very tasty. My colleague had a vegetarian curry option while I chose the Bindhi Chicken. Mine had a great taste as it was optimally spiced and very flavorful. My colleague was equally happy with his choice. In the end, I had a Masala Chai, which was properly made with boiled milk. Their recipe had the right amount of cinnamon which made it the ideal finisher. Our bill was less than €50 for the two of us including drinks and a small tip. We were quite happy with the value. I will look forward to trying this place again when next in Cork.
