Buffet plate

I've been in Jackson all my life and this is my first visit to Spice Avenue. As soon as I walked in, I felt this was going to be authentic Indian food based on the aromas coming from the buffet. Service for me was a slight miss. The wait staff did a phenomenal job with the other tables but I could tell those were "regulars". Maybe it was just me expecting full-fledge table service but it wasn't like that. But they didn't hover and kept the buffet stocked. The food was great! I tried several dishes from the plan basmati rice to the fish basmati rice to the stewed okra and butter chicken. Everything I ate today, minus the plain rice, was my first time trying and I was enjoyed everything. Even the rice pudding lol. Spice Avenue, despite it being a buffet during a pandemic, will become a part of my regular restaurant rotation.

I came here for dinner service. The menu offers several Indian dishes that are familiar for anyone that has dined at an Indian restaurant. Great options for vegetarians in Jackson, MS. The onion bhaji was a nice appetizer; crispy with nice salty flavor. For a battered fried onion app, it was tasted light and filling at the same time. The malai kofta is a veggie ball that is served with a sweet creamy sauce. The server made sure to ask me my preferred spice level, I said medium but probably would've preferred spicy. Service was very attentive and friendly. Prices are set right. Signage mentions they have a buffet option at lunchtime.

I was so happy to find this restaurant in Jackson as I so love Indian food. Especially the Biryani dish. This place had quick and courteous service, and they gave large portions and the food was delicious. I ordered both the chicken and mutton Biryani dish with the yogurt drink and they give white yogurt and another side on the side. The prices are affordable and there was ample parking. I will definitely return. This was a gem!

Entree's: Mughlai Chicken (Medium) and Bhuna Gosht (Spicy) A++ Naan: Garlic Naan, Chili Naan, and Onion Kulcha! (My favorite was the Onion!) Dessert: Gulab Jamun and Kherr! One hot and one cold but both delicious! Our Server was AMAZING! We asked for his opinion and he he did not disappoint!

I found Spice Avenue a couple of years ago through a Yelp search for Indian food. Each time I have made it back to the Jackson area I have tried to make an effort to eat here. You wouldn't believe what is inside the plain cinder block building you encounter when pulling into the parking lot. That parking lot could use some work. The neighboring area around the restaurant is also not quite inviting. But ignore the area, park carefully and enjoy a wonderful meal. Spice Avenue is decorated appropriately for an Indian restaurant. The booths were large and comfortable and there were tables as well. There was no bar. There is a buffet at lunch, but I have only ever come for the evening meal. So I can't speak to the flavors or temperature of a buffet. But who wants a buffet in a place like Spice Avenue that has a great menu? The waiters have all been very attentive and always eager to please. Never once have I had bad service. This evening I had a Taj Mahal beer. I like craft beers and specialties, never having been a big brewery fan. This was good. I was also served a water in a copper clad cup - no ice. But I'm told that that's pretty much traditional in India and when eating at an ethnic restaurant why not indulge in how it is traditionally served? People often forget that. An Indian cracker was served with three sauces: mint, sweet and sour tamarind, and a pepper sauce. The mint was good, and the pepper sauce will light your mouth on fire. I thoroughly enjoyed the sweet and sour tamarind sauce which was made with honey and very pleasing. I ordered the Aloo Tikki as an appetizer. I have never had a paneer (a small patty). This is a paneer made of aloo (potato) that has cottage cheese mixed in, and fried. The menu advertised a mint yogurt sauce. But, it came out with a stewed chick pea, cumin, onion and cilantro topping. The aloo paneer was great, the topping even better; so I wasn't really disappointed for not getting the mint yogurt sauce. The main course was goat Dal Gosht. Goat? You bet. Don't turn your nose up at it. Americans forget there are other meats than chicken, pork, beef and shrimp. What came to the table with a bowl of wonderful basmati rice was a delicious stew of goat, onions, coriander and drunken with lentils. It also came with a small accompaniment of chopped cabbage, peppers, peanuts and carrots that when placed on top of the stew gave it a wonderful texture. I love vindaloo but I think that this comes real close to replacing that as my go to dish. I saved room for dessert and ordered Ras Malai. This is a small paneer with coconut flavoring served in a milky, sweet cream sauce. It was superior. Definitely a have-to-get-again dish. With tip it was around $40. It was worth it. Other reviews of this restaurant have complained about the service - it was superior for me; the flavor - absolutely delicious and I have been to many Indian restaurants; the temperature of the food - it was hot and fresh; flavor - it was outstanding and perfectly Indian; or amount of food - I took some home. If you want American food, go to Applebee's. If you want a great Indian food experience, Spice Avenue is your place in Jackson.

Chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, naan, basmati rice

We've tried several Indian restaurants in the area and this is the best! Don't let the outside fool you. The lamb curry is amazing, as is the chicken tikka masala. When we ordered, he gave us spice level options of: mild, medium, spicy, or Indian spicy. We went with spicy but may venture and get Indian spicy next time. It was a great level of heat without overpowering the taste. Make sure you get some naan; you'll want it to sop up the sauce! There weren't a lot of customers in the restaurant, but we did see several people picking up to-go food. The inside was very clean and all were wearing masks. Everyone was also super nice and helpful with questions we had. 10/10 will go back.

I'm pretty sure I wrote a review years ago of this place, but it is unknown why it isn't showing…read more Anyways, this is the best Indian restaurant in the area. Mississippi in general lacks diverse cuisine and you'd primarily find your local soul food or BBQ spot. I used to live in MS and before I wasn't vegan so I ate everything under the sun. Sad, tragedy, I know. I discovered this restaurant during the peak of my veganism. The fact that you can make any vegetarian dish vegan is rarity within itself, but at Taste of India they came through and made it happen! I ordered Daal Tadka mild spice level with naan. I was immediately told that the naan isn't vegan since it contains butter, but owner, Paramjit suggested an order of Tandoori Roti without butter. Both hit the spot and was extremely flavorful! I thought I was in Houston again eating this good delicious meal. In the past, I've tried the vegetable biryani. It's good too. My mum likes this place since I got her hooked on it. The samosas are freshly made too. Interiors of the restaurant is a bit sketchy and usually never has anyone dining in when I do a pickup order, but call ahead since the food is made to order. Friendly staff. Next door is an Indian market called a bazar. Huge parking lot.

Highly recommend. I come here for lunch almost every week, enough for the owner to know my order…read moreevery time I come in which is very sweet. The butter chicken and chicken tikka masala are probably the best Indian dishes I've had, so good that every time I go to another Indian place it almost ruins it because I am always comparing it to here. The only downside is sometimes when you come in it can take a few minutes to be serviced. They also have a bazaar attached to the store so you can get authentic cooking ingredients and knick knacks.
