The Fitness Factory in Salem, NH outshines them all. The owner/main trainer Jon is not only an expert in his field, but he imparts a joy for his work that manifests as innovative routines, fun but purposeful contests, and many ways to find your personal way to better fitness and keep it! Classes and one-on-one only make it all personal. And the music is awesome, set to make you move and groove to the ideal heartrate which is monitored and displayed on Heart Rate Ninja - which Jon created! I never feel intimidated to ask if I don't know how to do something, whereas some gyms are full of ego. There are always classes taught by professionals that keep you motivated and moving! I would reccommend this gym 10/10 times. It's like having the option to do crossfit style classes without the price point. Oh-- and the MyZone feature is the coolest thing ever! I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with this gym has been frustrating enough that others should be aware before signing up. Do not sign up here, better gyms out there!!!!!! I initially reached out for simple account information, and it took several days just to get a response from the manager Wilkin Lara. Once I finally did, I was given inconsistent and escalating fees--first I was told it would cost $150 to downgrade my membership, then $300 to cancel, despite having been a member for over a year. The pricing explanations felt unclear and changed depending on what I asked, which made the process extremely confusing and frustrating. When I asked for the contact information for upper management to better understand the policies, I was told that information could not be provided. That lack of transparency was disappointing and made it difficult to resolve anything directly. Communication overall felt disorganized and unhelpful, and instead of working toward a reasonable resolution, the situation escalated to the point where I was told my account would be sent to collections very quickly, even though the billing situation was still being discussed. My bill was due the 13th and Wilkin said he sent my bill to collections on the 15 of April. Is this really how this gym does business? Unfortunately, I expected more professionalism and clearer communication from a fitness center, especially when it comes to account changes and cancellations. Instead, it felt unnecessarily difficult to get straightforward answers. At this point, I've chosen to move on and will be finding a different gym that offers clearer policies and better customer service. I would strongly encourage others to carefully review the membership terms before signing up here, especially regarding cancellation policies and fees. I suggest getting new management who can communicate with members.

I was greeted with a huge smile by the manager, Melissa who showed me around the cleanest gym I have ever been to in my life. Started yoga classes and all kinds of others. This gym is not only 20 and 40 year old body builders. This gym is geared for everyone young and old. Everyone who I have met here, the instructors and members are so friendly, nonjudgmental and helpful. Very reasonably priced for what you get! I recommend Hampstead Heath and Fitness to everyone! The little "new" equipment appears to be purchased used. Overpriced, undervalued and poorly maintained. No new equipment ever, at best you get used equipment. And the owner does not reinvest properly to keep things up to date. Every week it's something different that's broken and it'll take weeks or longer for it to get fixed. But what really put it over the top was the fact that he's now charging every $50 a year as a maintenance fee. What maintenance? People are going down the street to planet fitness and they are paying $200 a year for brand new equipment in a brand new facility while he's charging $600 a year for broken down stuff. Edit - replying to owner's comments. COVID inflation has impacted everyone, including every member who pays. My bills have increased 40% since COVID, as has the bills of everyone I know. And that includes the cost of membership to HHF which has skyrocketed since COVID. It doesn't change that the value simply is not there. Down the street people are paying a 35% the price of a HHF membership for all new equipment, new facilities, and nearly 24 hours access. HHF has continually increased its membership fees year over year to the point where HHF is now within striking distance of the cost of memberships to premium facilities like Cedardale that include pools, basketball courts, all new equipment, tennis courts, working saunas, etc. As far as changing equipment goes, I will not dispute the claim regarding "selectorsized" equipment being updated 2.5 years ago. There's also a few refurbished elliptical machines replaced as well, not that they are really high quality machines. Folks I have spoken with only use them if the others are unavailable. But that's a relatively low percentage of the total equipment in the facility. There is much more equipment which are in need of replacement or, at least, better preventative maintenance: free weights are cracked or have rubber missing, step machines are old and break down frequently. Benches are too narrow or have broken/loose racks. The floor is uneven in several areas. It's not uncommon to find shims being used to keep wobbly equipment in place. I can't speak to what was done 25 years ago at HHF, and frankly I question how that is relevant to the value of the membership today. HHF provides facilities somewhere in the range of a discount gym but at 250% the cost of a discount gym. HHF is about 80% the cost of a premium facility, but provides nothing close to the facilities.
