I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Spencer and his staff. My teenage son had a serious baseball accident and shattered his kneecap. Dr. Spencer performed an intricate and challenging surgery and my son healed so quickly and is now stronger than ever. Every meeting with Dr. Spencer was positive. He is honest, straightforward, empathetic and GREAT at what he does. Now about his staff- every single person we worked with, which was a LOT of people, was incredible. The physical therapist we worked with (Adrian) the front desk staff, the behind the scenes people... they all worked seamlessly together to make a difficult time so much easier for us. I'm writing this review as a warning to others. I read yelp reviews on this place before I decided to choose them for my broken knee. I chose to believe the positive reviews. I wish I had paid attention to the negative reviews. Hopefully this one helps somebody to avoid What I went through. I was completely traumatized after two appointments at this place. The first appointment was with Andy. His bedside manner was very harsh and intimidating. I was so uncomfortable during this appointment. I was nervous to even ask questions. It felt like he rushed through the appointment and his tone was not welcoming. I told him my pain level was at 11 and he said he would call in my prescription for strong pain meds. After two hours of waiting and going to CVS to pick up the prescription, he never called it in. We had to keep calling the office and begging for him to submit my prescription. Minutes before CVS was closing, he finally did it. And only after several phone calls to get him to follow through on that same day. He told me to put zero weight on it and that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to heal. The one thing he did do which was nice, was allow me to see my x-rays and allowed me to take pictures of what the MRI results looked like and the x-rays. So at least I knew what needed to be repaired. He told me to come back in a little over four weeks and to get x-rays before that appointment. I did all of that. But I made my follow up appointment with the owner - Dr. Spencer. Dr. Spencer was even worse for bedside manner. I felt terrified even going into this appointment because the first experience was not a good one. I explained like I had in the first appointment, that I had a stroke two years ago and my accident which caused my knee to break, was a residual effect from my stroke. My knee pops in and out sometimes, and it caused me to fall and my leg slipped out behind me and twisted my ankle and my knee And broke two bones in my knee. I also have foot drop as a residual effect of the stroke. Because of this, I'm not able to use crutches. I have to sit in a walker with my leg in a full splint and wheel myself backwards to get anywhere. So it was major for me to get out and get the x-rays that were expected of me before this appointment with Dr. Spencer. Right away he told me there's no difference in the x-rays. Probably because they had me get x-rays at the four week mark instead of the six week mark. He told me I needed to stay off of it for another two weeks. But at the first appointment, Andy told me it would take 4 to 6 weeks to heal. So why wouldn't they just have me wait until six weeks to do the x-rays since at this appointment, they're telling me there's no change. So at that point, he tells me stay off of it for another couple weeks and then start physical therapy and get x-rays again. But the first time I went in there, Andy said he couldn't even really see the details from the x-rays. Only from the MRI which the emergency room had insisted I get an MRI. And then Dr. Spencer is now telling me to get x-rays again in a couple weeks and start physical therapy. Not even showing me my x-rays or explaining anything that could maybe have gotten better? Just tells me there's no change. As I explained to him, I had a stroke two years ago and I have foot drop. It is not an easy thing for me to even stand normally because of foot drop. So I told him that I researched how to start walking after a broken knee. And that I learned that I should slowly start trying to stand and just put a little bit of weight on my foot as it gets closer to the time of recovery so that I can even get myself through physical therapy. In a challenging tone, he asked me where I did this research. I answered... Google. He snapped at me and told me it was stupid to Google anything because he is the specialist. And as he said, the word specialist, he got loud and abrasive. Proving that he was the authority . My mother was sitting right next to me during this appointment and she was just as in shock as I was. The amount of ego coming out of this man... just zero care in healthcare, with him. Then I said to him... "So you never Google anything with regard to your business?" To which he replied - "Jesus-- You are a piece of work!" Again, I was in shock. And so was my mother. It took everything to not start crying right in front of him. But I cried twice after I left the appointment. It was so traumatizing. I will tell you who to go to instead of this man or this place - Dr. Diltz at Desert orthopedic. That's who I switched to and it was a night and day experience!! Dr. Diltz is incredible & kind! He actually makes you feel cared about when you are in the worst situation and the worst pain and you are vulnerable in your spirit. Do not go to this place. read more

Appointment started late. Jacob Spencer was rushing from the first moment he walked in. Might have spent 5 minutes showing no interest in my situation. I wrote it off figuring he must be having a worse day than me. It now appears his bill includes all sorts of things he did not do. I was very disappointed. read more

I first went to Dr. Spencer when 3 other doctors told me that based on my MRI, I needed a new shoulder. Dr Spencer took a look at the same MRI and said, why don't you just try some PT and see how it goes. I did that and my shoulder got better. 4 years later my shoulder is still ok. I love that Dr. Spencer's first instinct is not "you need surgery"! I returned to Dr. Spencer recently for a knee issue. Again, he recommended PT which I'm doing in his office. The therapists are great, John and Sanjay, and have really helped. Sanjay gives the best EVER knee massages! read more

I was supposed to have two appointments a day apart 1. Knees and 2. Neck, but the office only scheduled one. When I showed up for the 2nd appointment, the office manager treated me as if I had forgotten or made it up. She told me my appt was yesterday and asked "who I spoke to," even though no name was ever given at the time of booking. Instead of apologizing, she was rude, dismissive, and condescending. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled showed a lack of professionalism and respect for patients. I just want pain relief and this place messed up and blamed me. I'm drove over an hour to come to this appt. If this how incompetent the office is ran, I wouldn't trust my care in their hands. They also asked if I filled out the paperwork emailed to me, I checked and had not received the paperwork. Learn to train your staff and not be condescending to patients. People make mistakes, but the people in charge should have a handle on it. read more

Spencer Orthopedics is the best medical practice I've encountered in California. Dr. Spencer is a superhero: an absolute pro who understands that people don't want to be just ok; they want to resume their previous levels of activity! Dr. Spencer repaired my son's knee (ACL and meniscus) when another doctor had left us hanging. Unlike other orthopedists, Dr. Spencer went beyond performing surgery; he enacted a long term treatment plan, which included 1)regular follow-up exams with him, THE DOCTOR (not a PA), and 2)PT right there in the office with his team. The PTs are kind, encouraging, and knowledgeable and scheduling is easy. Dr. Spencer and his staff provide a personal touch that is professional but not like business. I cannot recommend Spencer Orthopedics for several reasons. I had an appointment on October 31st, 2022, to meet with Dr. Spencer about left knee pain, which had worsened since my initial knee evaluation in North Carolina in 2017ish. Dr. Spencer ran x-rays and, in his post-visit report, he did not mention that I had had any previous complaints about my knee. "They have no history of previous knee surgeries, injuries, or problems." SHOCKING misrepresentation of what I had told Dr. Spencer. Also, he did not send the Medical Records Request form that I filled out that day to the previous NC doctor, so Dr. Spencer could look at the baseline accounting of the knee (i.e. x-rays, MRI, notes, etc, as the former orthopedic surgeon had diagnosed a cyst under the kneecap, which I told Dr. Spencer). It was very important to me that Dr. Spencer compare former knee problem with the present state of the knee. When I asked the receptionist, Monica, why the form had not been sent, she told me because the doctor didn't ask her to send it. But I specifically asked Dr. Spencer to please get those records, since my knee pain has been going on for many years. I went to the office twice for physical therapy. I had had my Ugg boots up on the table. The PT didn't wipe the exam table off or change the pillowcase for the next patient, and I heard the woman who was escorted into the PT room by my therapist mention that the exam table was dirty. She said, "Every time I come here it's dirty." I apologized to her, as I was still standing right there, and I told her I'd had my boots up on the table. I didn't tell the woman that the pillowcase had not been changed either. The physical therapist was very nice, but the therapy was more for core than it was for the knee. It was also rather a zoo in the PT room. I did phone the office manager, and I asked her to please obtain my medical records and call me when they arrived, and I never heard from her. I mean, isn't it important for proper diagnosis and treatment to get previous records on a patient's injury or condition? Also, I was injected with methylprednisone, and there was no positive effect whatsoever. Unprofessional. read more

I've been to Dr. Spencer twice. Once for a hip issue after tail running during Covid and then again for a knee problem after a bike fall. Both MRI's showed minor structural damage. I was mainly dealing with osteoarthritis. Dr. Spencer recommended PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injections in both instances. Amazing results both times. No hip pain, no knee pain three days after the injections. No pain still to this day. I know PRP may not work for everyone but if you are a candidate, I would highly recommend Dr. Spencer. My hip and knee have never felt better. read more

I went to Spencer Orthopedics bc I had a hip issue. I was able to get in fairly quickly (most practices were months out) When I made the appt I was sent for an X-ray prior to my appt..we were able to review the X-ray at the appt which was a time saver! The entire front office team was very nice & accommodating handling insurance and ID. I saw Andy, he was the PA who reviewed my X-ray with me but more importantly listened to me! He actually heard my story abt my situation and recommended an MRI. When my insurance denied it, he went to bat for me and got it approved! He was instrumental in helping me also get ahold of my older films. He did all of this knowing his office probably couldn't help me in the long run. Her son had some questions he was unsure about and wanted to make sure he can trust Dr. Spencer with his knee recovery. What matters most to you when you are injured? Last week I suffered a nasty tear to my hamstring while dinkering around in martial arts. The sound my leg/ hip made as it popped out of socket and strained ever fiber of my being will haunt me for the rest of my life. I called Dr Spencer's office and they got me in first thing in the morning. I was panicking not knowing the extent of my injury or what my future would look like as a pirate. Dr Spencer and his team were so kind to me. I was met with immediate compassion from his front desk gal and staff in general. I have worked in healthcare for over 20 years and know a good team when I see one. Dr Spencer was not rushed and really spent his time explaining his possible diagnosis and setting me up for scans. He even gave me his spare crutches when he realized I didn't have a pair! I have seen him at both the La Quinta and Palm Desert offices and have been happy with both.
