I chose Spence Fence because they came highly recommended by friends. I was very pleased with the finished fence which replaced a 18-year-old fence. While taking a closer look, we noticed issues with cracked pickets. After numerous calls, texts, emails all with the same response..."I'll call you back; I'll get someone out in two weeks". I left a message, and I told Alex that the pictures were texted to Sam. "Oh, he got a new phone, so he doesn't have the pictures anymore. Really? Well, I do! Fence was done June 5, 2024. When I bought my house 4 years ago the right side fence was falling down. I got 2 estimates 1 from Durango and 1 from SPENCE FENCE. Rebel was a little cheaper I am so glad I went with SPENCE FENCE because I got the rest of my yard done by SPENCE FENCE. I called them about a week ago had some boards replaced they said next time in my area. The guy came out today so nice replace 5 boards when all done he said just sign. This is the 2nd time that I used Spence Fence for my fencing needs. Both times, I have been very happy with the end product. The workers are very professional. They showed up at the time they said. After asking some clarifying questions about the fencing job, they began work with no delay. The work site was cleaned up upon completion of the job. The only issue I ran into was trying to get ahold of their person that does the quotes for the jobs. I called the office and they connected me to him. I left him several messages and no call back. Our fence project was a mess. The speed in which they completed the project was fast but the work showed. They ruined 40 years of concrete curbing, fence was crooked and overall looks awful. They came back to fix it... the concrete still horrible and the fence is sub par. I recently called, sent pics and nobody called me back. Great Fence for a Reasonable Price. We watched them build it, and are very happy with the result! They strung a line, set steel posts in concrete every 8 ft., cut out a huge tree root that was in the way with a chain saw, and attached the cedar pickets with collared nails that will not pull out. They charged significantly less than all the others (I got several quotes), let us split the cost with the neighbor and pay separately, and accepted credit card payment without extra fees. First fence fixed by Spence Fence in 2017 and it turned out great. Hired them again in April, 2019 to fix the other sections of fence. They broke six sprinklers, left trash in my yard and left behind two rechargable batteries (plus charging stations). Live in a small beach community,with very low COVID #s. The noise started with my conjoined fence being knocked down at 8:00 am,without ANY notification. I am recovering from full knee replacement surgery. My walkway is 3' wide. No exit access to street,without crawling over debris,all day. Had new wood fence put in on my property on may 9 2017. Already has 47 boards with noticeable cracks and chips on them. Fence is 67x81. Spence fence refuses to replace these boards or refund me. So basically the one year warranty will not cover this even though the warranty says it does. And according to the contract I am to receive extra boards which I did not receive! Already reported to Better Business Bureau. Is that the way you treat all Military Veterans?! Guess I was lucky to get a discount! Do not hire these people, they will rip you off. read more

In 2015, Spence Fence insalled my beautiful 7 foot fence, it has a finished look at the top of the fence, and i love it! I also asked if they could build a small fence around my not so cute pool pump, it now looks great!!!! it was a very reasonable add-on btw, glad i asked. The office staff was very helpful and patient, when I had questions about what would look nice. The employees that came out that day, were hardworking, polite, proffessional and fast! I have spoken to Wendy in the office several times, she has always been helpful and kind to me. He answered right away but said he had to call me back. Okay I'm waiting and waiting. So 4 additional calls to Sam, same response "I'll call u right back 5 minutes." 5 minutes never came. I moved on. Terrible service, took weeks to get a quote, we finally get it and go ahead with our service they put posts in the ground and then text me to confirm the gate we wanted {which is not the gate at all} then when I tell them this they say they never gave me a quote on that. Not sure why they would give me a quote on something I never wanted but I ask what the price would be.. It takes almost a month and several phone calls on my part to find out it would be 1200$ more then what they quoted me before. I had to find a new person to him out gates who informed me they didn't even powder coat our posts they cemented in and they couldn't powder coat they after so he didn't know why that was!! I wouldn't even give them one star if I could. The head guy in the crew that did my fence he cursed at my husband and I and called my husband a "f***ing idiot" because the fence wasnt all the way to the ground like we asked, and they digged a hole in our yard to use the dirt to try and hide the big gap under the fence so they thought we wouldn't notice when we had grass before right against the old fence.  The head guy of the crew also said we don't like the fence only because it's that we are white and they are mexican. For his information this was the third time we have dealt with this company, their race doesn't bother us one bit. I felt threatened and harrassed. I had over 10 companies give us an estimates for this fence, we went with Spence fence because we liked how they did our other two fences. I was very close to calling the cops on him because once he started cursing at us we asked him to get off our property and he wouldn't, he would start walking to me and cursing me out because I asked him to get off my property. I even threatened to call the cops and he said he didn't care. DO NOT ever hire this company. They can not be trusted at all and they don't know a thing about customer service or how to do their job properly! Don't make the same mistake we did. Their follow up and quality control are not good. They did several projects for my house 7ft fence and custom gates but it took weeks to get it done, several repeat calls for corrections to errors made, not a lot of pride in their workmanship. Expensive too. read more

Terrible service. We paid OVER $1000.00 for a side fence. The wood they used was badly warped and just on our 1 side need 19 slates replaced. After a month of run around, they sent a guy out to replace 7 boards in which he indicated that is what the female office manager instructed him to do. He had a very aggressive attitude and displayed is anger for even having to come out. After agreeing with me the wood planks were bad and warped he began bad mouthing the office manager and my female neighbor who wanted all the warped boards replaced and said he would come back and replace the rest himself. He showed up a couple hours later, replaced 3 boards and then left leaving 8 boards leaned up against my fence. I took it as an attitude if you want the rest done do it yourself. Then my neighbor called me over to her side of the fence to see what he did. All the boards he replaced that day were replaced using the incorrect size of nails. They were too long and went completely through the fence sticking out on her side. It was sloppy and dangerous and someone could get hurt should they rub against it. When we called again to report this, her response was can't you just hammer them down yourself? Unacceptable! What is happening to doing the job right in the first place and we paid to have YOUR company do the work not two female homeowners. I DO NOT recommend this company. If I could rate them a minus 5 I would. Businesses need to understand you can't do sloppy work and get referrals. We have pictures if anyone needs validation. read more

Well, I called Spence Fence over a week ago as recommended by my neighbors daughter. They said they had used them and they did good work. I have made two calls and emailed and have yet to receive a call to schedule an estimate. I was told it would be 2-3 days to get a response. I thought it would just be easier to use them instead of getting a bunch of other estimates. I guess I am wrong. I called a couple of other companies to get estimates. They built a really beautiful fence, though the gate was choppy at the bottom, and a little ill fitting. I suggest that you and several members of the family watch the actual construction closely, so you can report problems on the day of the installation (and I'd report them to "Sam" AND the home office.) Why? Because the 'owner' with whom I spoke indicated that they send someone out on the day of the installation, but other than that, you signed the contract that says nothing broken under ground is their fault.) If you do have a problem, don't count on them to answer the phone, call back or otherwise address the issue. In my case, they drilled a hole in my drain that carried water from the back yard to the front street, filled it with concrete, and said nothing about it. When the rains finally came months later, I had a flood in my back yard, and worked with a couple landscaping companies to came to come out and address the problem. Spense Fence response: (a) I waited too long to report the problem, (b) paid too much for the repairs, (c) couldn't prove that they even noticed the problem while they were digging, (d) they don't have any liability because I signed the contract saying anything underground was my problem. I think their orientation to business is a problem, as they push responsibility down to "Sam", the installer, (from whom it takes months to get a response, i.e, the 'owner is out of town'), and then argue that you took too long to report the problem. My advice? Watch the installation; report the problem; and stay on the phone. Or, get someone that has a better reputation with regard to their responsiveness to clients. read more

We had a fence repaired on a rental property for the total cost of $1,300. The accounting department of this company emailed the invoice to my husband and as he receives many emails, he didn't recognize it and never opened the email. 7 months later he receives a call from the owner that was angry that payment hadn't been made yet and threatened to take legal action. Mind you NO ONE ever called prior to this phone call NOR did ANYONE mail an invoice to us. A very unprofessional woman in the accounting department lied and said that she emailed it again several times. We did a search and only found the original email from August, so not only is she very rude and unprofessional but also a liar. Why would 1 email be there and not the several other emails she claims to have sent. We are not losers and pay our bills, all it would have taken is 1 phone call 30 days after payment had been requested and not yet paid and we would have had a check to them immediately! We have used this company prior to this job with good results but the attitude, threats and downright lying with this job and the accounting department (probably just trying to cover themselves) has left such a bad feeling that we will NEVER use them again. Sometimes you get what you pay for and maybe had we used someone else for a little more money it would have saved us from this hassle. I do have to admit that the owner did apologize to my husband but the bad attitude, unprofessionalism and lying by the woman in the accounting department ensured that we won't be using them again. read more
