I had a wonderful experience with Spence Counseling Center. My now-husband (at the time fiancé) and I went to Lori for premarital counseling. She was wonderful and we'll return at some point for follow up sessions. The receptionist was friendly and the atmosphere was laid back, which we really enjoyed. Unfortunately, this counseling center practices deceptive and unethical billing, bullying, and combative customer service. Their offices told us we were covered by insurance, and even after we inquired to ensure it was due to receiving an explanation of benefits, they said to ignore those, it would be covered. One and half years later they said nothing was covered and initially requested we pay 5k and then said over 3k and then said 2k. We discovered that they were billing us as individuals when it was couples ($60 more per session) and when insurance didn't pay they wanted to pass those false rates on to us. Their policy is that when you have a $600 of outstanding balance clients must pay prior to continuing, but they ignored that policy and told us no worries insurance will cover you. Rhonda Spence had no customer service or accountability for their encouragement and wrong statements of our coverage in addition she has been highly combative with my wife and me. I in good Christian conscience can never recommend this counseling center because they have zero customer service, and are not honest in billing practice. My son has been going to therapy sessions here. At first, our insurance was paying his services, except for a small portion that I had been paying out of pocket. My husband switched jobs and our insurance changed. We have a large deductible for our family on our new insurance, but since my husband is a disabled Vet we have ChampVA as a secondary insurance. My son has been going weekly. When insurance changed the full amount of $190.00 was due each time and if he cancelled the appt. they charge $75. The deductible wasn't met yet through BCBS. When I asked the office staff about the rate, they told me my son would have to ask for a hardship rate from the therapist. My son asked his therapist. She was not willing to give us the rate. Spence Counseling does not send claims to ChampVA so I have to pay for the services upfront and file a claim myself. I have yet to receive an invoice with all of the correct info to submit the claim myself. But, also why wouldn't the rate change to an insurance rate instead of a walk-in rate since it was ran through BCBS? Then the therapist and her office staff threatened my son to put this on his credit. He is of age but still a kid and they know he would not be able to afford to pay that kind of money. Needless to say he no longer attends as she wasn't of much help anyway. I do not feel this lady is worth the $190.00 an hour. They only care about $ it seems and is unwilling to do what is needed to help themselves get paid. read more

Terrible experience with counselor. She did not respect professional boundaries and created the therapy experience so that I depended solely on her for support, instead of encouraging outside support through friends and family. When concerns were brought to the owner they chose to protect the counselor rather than support the client. The whole experience caused my symptoms to become dramatically worse. Be wary of this so-called Christian counseling center. read more

I'm giving two stars only because I liked my Counsler, but their billing department is horrible. I thought I had been paying, totally my error, but they sent me to collections without notice. When I called and started payments, they said they had taken me out of collections, only to find out four months later, they hadn't, and all I got was a , "oh, sorry". I could have cleared it up had I known they were going to do that. read more

Worst counseling experience I have ever had. She had no idea on how to help my husband and I with our issues. She was disorganized, and I always felt worse after seeing her. This was many years ago, and I am disappointed to see that Lori Goodwin is still a counselor there. I am not surprised to see that on different review sites, when people are complaining about counselors, her name is the one that comes up repeatedly. I am not surprised to read that she was disciplined by the state. Spence Counseling was a HUGE waste of time and money. Thankfully, my husband and I are doing much better and have been for years. I feel this company is only out for money and that they do not truly care about their clients. I was sick and cancelled my appointment 9 hours before my scheduled time and was charged $75 for a "late cancellation". Due to their charge, my account went negative and I got charged more fees due to this. I tried to speak with my therapist, Jessica Modrell, about the problem but she insisted that I be charged the fee, even after I explained to her how much I had to end up paying b/c I cancelled my appointment. After all was said and done, that fee they needed to collect so badly from me ended up costing me a whole day's pay! Jessica stated that when we (clients) cancel, they lose out on money. If they cared so much about their clients, I feel like my therapist could have given me a heads up on the charge. Jessica even said "I could have reminded you" I understand they need to make a living too but after knowing how bad of a predicament that their charge put me in and still continued to charge me just shows the nature of that Jessica and the company she works for. I even reached out to Rhonda Spense and explained my situation. Again I was told they would do nothing for me. Please tell me how this helps? I totally agree with Rachel. They do not let you pick the therapist you want because they set you up with one "they think" is better.

STAY AWAY!!!!! This is the most terrible place you could possibly come to for services. And they call themselves a Christian company! It's absolutely astounding to me at the awful mistreatment I received by this company! Don't waste your money here!!! I came to them asking for marriage counseling for my husband and I. I was told I was going to be coming in for an evaluation for "marriage" counseling. AFTER I HAD ALREADY PAID I was told "oh well your the client so we can't do couples therapy." Which is the ENTIRE reason I was there and the new patient representative knew it... so whatever, I had already paid so I just let it go. A month later I was refunded the TOTAL amount I paid. So I thought, ok, they are taking responsibility for their dishonest behavior and I felt blessed to have had those funds back... ummm yeah not so. A couple weeks after the refund they just up and charge my debit card. No phone call, no warning... NOTHING they just charge my debit card... because you know.. we just all have $100 laying around... so I called their office and you know what.. THEY DONT GIVE A CRAP. I spoke with Rhonda Spencer and she admitted to the MULTIPLE MISTAKES her staff made, but blatantly said she was not taking financial responsibility for it! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! I'm a medical biller and when our hospital makes a mistake like that we eat it, we don't turn around and charge our patients for it! I am absolutely amazed at how TERRIBLE these people are... STAY AWAY!!!!!! There are good people in Omaha that you can work with that won't take advantage of already hurting people. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!!! read more
