My dog is reactive and can't be around many other dogs or too many new people at a time and the boarder Briana was a perfect match for Chewie. The organizer April is incredible with dogs, very smart and skilled in terms of behaviour and positive reinforcement for dogs, and has helped me learn so much about my dog over the past few months. Highly recommend for dog boarding and general dog wisdom and companionship!

If I have to go away for a few days, I can't leave my dog with just anyone. While Sally is a…read moresweetheart inside the house, she's always looking for trouble outside, and can be especially reactive with other dogs. I need to know that the person who cares for my dog can handle my lil firecracker and prevent trouble from happening. My good friend who lives across the street is such a person, but more than a couple of days of dogsitting is kind of an imposition for a friend. I definitely did not want to send my large, energetic dog to a kennel (aka doggy jail). Bronte Pet Services to the rescue! I found them through a link on the website of the also-awesome Dizine Canine training centre. These wonderful people, April and Lauren and their team of petsitters, specialize in and even enjoy working with challenging dogs. They are also involved with HugABull rescue and are well-trained and experienced in reactive dog handling. We exchanged a few emails, and a couple of days before the trip, April, who would be sitting for us (the sitter she initially matched us with had to cancel) and another Lauren, who would providing some relief, came over for a home visit and to get the keys and contracts, etc. Sally loved them right away (cookies!), and when we left for the trip, we felt assured she - and the house - was in good hands. Knowing my dog, I had some lingering worries, but the first progress report email dispelled them completely. Throughout the trip, April sent us emails and pictures regularly to update us on how things were going. They would generally stay overnight and give her morning and evening walks and feeding. I'm also super happy with all extras April brought to the arrangement. She brought over her own doggy puzzle toys for Sally to solve to get her dinner - and who doesn't like to be told their dog is smart enough to solve the hardest ones with ease? She also introduced us to using a body halter, rather than the head halter I had been using, and even lent me one to try out after we got back. And she definitely wore my dog out with lots of interesting walks and "urban agility" exercises in the park nearby. They take care of all kinds of pets, but I love that they love taking care of even the more challenging (difficult, smart, energetic) animals. And I love that, since finding Bronte Pet Services, I feel like maybe I can now take a vacation once in a while!

Shaved her, even though I had a conversation with the owner Milena prior to grooming- Milena had told me that my puppy wouldn't be shaved because of the fact that she is too little and young and the fact that she just had her spay done. Yet my pup got shaved very short and blotchy - she is shaking till this day. CHLOE also cut her eye lash off and her ears are uneven!!! And when I called to complain they said I needed to come in for the refund- please note that the groomer CHLOE was not empathetic at this time and all she said was "I didn't see it" and when asked about her lashes she said "I thought it curled down". Still this is no excuse!!! So I went in for the refund and spoke with CHLOE face to face. She had the audacity to say "well, I was being sweared at" well, no shit, you made my first puppy bleed because of your fucking negligence, and kept saying that she had an rbf as well as a resting bitch tone........... I find this unacceptable. I posted on my Instagram and found out that CHLOE also did some other bad work on other pups and reacted the same way. They offered me to come back to get her groomed by the owner, but I'm too jaded to go back as my pup is already traumatized by that place. When I said my dog is traumatized and shivering, they offered me a little sweater for her, which was a nice gesture, but somehow this aggravated me even more, as if offering me free things would make this all better... It's infuriating, the fact that the groomer really didn't take ownership of what happened. Like, how could you or did you not know? Because CHLOE took less than 2 hrs to groom my pup. Had she taken her time, she could have avoided this whole thing. Maybe that's why the dog I saw on the way out did not want to go into this place.

If i could give Christine and Downtown Dogs 10 stars I would !…read more This is the BEST doggy daycare in the city BY FAR (and I've tried a few) and you can tell the staff truely care about the dogs and are passionate about their job. The facility is very clean and has different sections for the dogs to hangout and play in opposed to just putting them in an open space like other doggy daycares do. Christine knows what she's doing :) to keep all the dogs happy. You can tell they really care about the wellbeing of your dog :) I have a little chihuahua with seperation anxiety so doggy daycare is my only answer while I'm at work. I took my pup to a small dogs only daycare and she would always come back smelling so bad and running for the water bowl when we got home & seemed stressed. so I knew I had to try a different daycare and I'm so glad I found Downtown Dogs! I was a little hesitant bringing my small pup to all sizes doggy daycare but the staff know what they are doing! Christine is a dog trainer, a good one and it shows. I pick up my pup from Downtown Dogs and she's so confident and happy, she loves going there ! I can see the difference in her behaviour. If you need a trustworthy doggy daycare, bring your dog here! They go above and beyond !

Totally don't know how I haven't left a review for DownTown Dogs yet…read more Christine, the owner and head trainer, is basically a dog-rockstar. On my dog, Sam's, first day of daycare with Christine he came home with a report card detailing what he did for the day. Cutest thing ever? I think so. After having some questionable dog daycare experiences at another establishement (see my other reviews) I asked Christine if I could come early or late to get a tour of the facility, meet her and the staff, and decide if it was the right place for Sam. Christine was MORE than happy to comply, and Sam went to daycare there for 2 full years, 3 days a week. We have also taken agility and outdoor fun classes with Christine, which were both SUPER fun. Another really key thing to note is how much Downtown Dogs cares about the community. A few months ago I got an email request for help with preparing food packages to be given to street youth to help feed their pets. Christine has been key in getting literally thousands of pounds of dog and cat food to people who can't otherwise afford it. Basically, downtown dogs is excellent value, top quality, and one of the best places for dog daycare. The class sizes (ha) are usually 15 dogs, and there is onsite grooming available.
