Most donut shops do not charge, but if they do it should be reasonable. Their swipe rate for debit cards is 20 to 25 cents. Credit cards are more but still are not going to be more than 40 cents on a $3 donut. That would actually be a high rate. What they are charging is not ethical. I would recommend either not doing business with them or only do so if you have cash.
