First of all: Cath Coffee is located inside Castleton Square Mall! It's not a coffee shop, per se,…read morebut more like a coffee stall by Macy's that specializes in caffeinated beverages and desserts. So, if you want to visit Cath Coffee, you will need to enter the mall. I didn't need a coffee shop to hang out in, just a place to get a drink to give me an edge. I needed my wits about me on this afternoon, because I was buying a kettle bell at the nearby Dick's Sporting Goods, and I needed to determine which weight was the right fit for me. Important stuff! But this is neither here nor there. At Cath Coffee, I ordered a black iced coffee. Haters will say that my order was pedestrian, considering the abundance of coffee options on the Cath menu. I coulda got a chai latte! Or a lavender lemonade! Or a toasted marshmallow hot chocolate! But I wanted just pure caffeine with the least amount of calories. Black coffee fits that description, and I chose iced because it was a relatively warm day. My iced coffee was ready lickety split, and it tasted great. It's hard to eff up an iced black coffee, and luckily, Cath Coffee did not do that. They have a lot of pastries and desserts, including baklava and macarons. They also have Dubai chocolate bars!

He mentioned he offers coffee forward, not as sweet, which is fine however for adding up to over twelve dollars there's no espresso that can dance on tastebuds well enough! I'm sure some would try persuading me of single origin specialty roast yet once the milk and sugar syrup is pumped out of plastic. Well. I recommend 7 Brew, Dutch Bros, and even the Wendy's cold brew offering the same overall conclusion for half the cost!

I don't have a traditional office, so I'm always looking for remote places to work. I love a change of scenery and environment. Over the past year or two, I've slowly faded out my visits to a certain popular coffee establishment with a name shared by a character on Battlestar Galactica. So, when a friend told me about The Haverstick, I needed to check it out! I'm so glad I did. It has become my go-to office of choice! Housed in a community center of a local church, the environment has dim lighting and soft music. A perfect place to get focused and stay focused. They have a coffee bar that also offers a few food options. The coffee is good and very affordable. The staff is always friendly. There is usually only one person staffing the coffee shop, but they get to your order quickly. You just may have to wait if there is a large group, as happened to me once. But no worries. Simply have a seat and get to work, and they will call your name when your beverage and/or food is ready to pickup. The Haverstick is less a coffee shop and more a community shared-space work environment that offers coffee. They have a lot of comfortable chairs and tables of various sizes. The room is wide open and you never feel crowded, even if there is a decent amount of people. However, it's usually only a handful of other people around, so it's a great place to get things done. They also have conference rooms for rent. I'm grateful this church has opened its doors to the public and offers such a wonderful and inviting atmosphere. I look forward to returning soon and getting some more work done.

Their bakery items are very pretty, but we have noticed that some of the offerings (like the stuffed donuts) do not really have a taste to them besides sugar- which is fine if you're just wanting a quick sugar rush, but disappointing if you're actually wanting to try an ube stuffed donut and then don't get any ube flavor at all. Their display offerings are very good and always taste like what they say they should. I've never tried any savory pastries from them, but I want to on my next visit. They have coffee, hot chocolate, frappes, smoothies, lemonades, etc as well. The tiramisu latte is amazing and I get it every time I go since it's always when it's fall/winter, but an iced coffee or lemonade sounds so good once the weather gets warm again. Plan your visit for early in the day before their pastries get bought up! They stay very busy and our last visit was late in the evening to coincide with grocery shopping in Saraga so we could take everything straight home to the fridge. They were very picked over, but I got a slice of pound cake to snack on with my latte and a load of milk bread. The milk bread is a family favorite, so I recommend trying that out if you've never had it before. They also sell some super cute "accessories" on top of the display case and I bought "Happy Birthday" candles for my husband's birthday earlier this month from them, as well as some that said "I Love You" for Valentine's Day.

I'm not about to describe a Starbucks to you. If you don't know, you're probably not meant to be here. This Starbucks is in a freestanding building adjacent to 71st and Binford. It has the usual features of a Starbucks including a drive-thru, bakery, breakfast, lunch, and lots of room to sit down and get some work done. I wheeled over to Starbucks as my car was parked closer to the ice cream shop. First rule of life - always park closer to the ice cream. I noticed a new curb cut toward the north side of the building, however, I also noted that it's abysmally done. There's a serious lip at the edge of it - so defined that I didn't trust myself to be able to get over it. I found myself thinking "If you're going to do a crappy job on your curb cut, why even go to the effort?" Fortunately, there was an older curb cut around on the side of the building. It was actually a little broken up, however, I could make it work. However, I refuse to consider this entry accessible and noted that on Yelp. As a wheelchair user, it simply doesn't pass the test. You go inside and you have the order counter along with a dining area. There are unisex bathrooms - both are accessible. I went up to order and the employees were super friendly. I ordered one of their new energy drinks, the melon burst, and one of the baristas made a recommendation related to it. I went with it. While the recommendation was appreciated, I have this general belief that if you recommend something that's going to cost the customer extra you actually tell them. I was a little irritated the drink was $1 more than the listed price. I definitely would not have ordered it for the extra price and certainly won't again. Overall, the drink was fine. I did note that I prefer the Tropical Citrus Energy Drink, however, it was good enough. I considered dropping two stars considering my accessibility concerns and the unexpected $1 add-on. However, I've decided to stick with one-star off. The drink was good, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the baristas are friendly, and the restrooms are well done. There's lots to recommend here, however, the curb cuts/ramps need improvement and baristas really need to mention cost when making a recommendation. So, 4 stars it is.

I was lucky enough to encounter the owner James, and his mom/co-owner Hanna. James helped me determine which coffee to order and informed me that he buys the beans directly from Vietnam. You can tell a lot of thought, a lot of love and dedication have been put into this family owned business. I had the Vietnamese Spring Rolls and my husband had the Đặc Biệt: (Special Combination). The special has vietnamese mayo, pork pate, xá xíu (bbq pork), chả lụa (vietnamese ham), and thịt nguội (vietnamese pork salami). Both items were super fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. When you walk in, you order at the counter, but there were four people in front of us and you order at a kiosk. It took each couple awhile to determine what they wanted and then how to use the kiosk. Finally a person came up to the cash register and allowed us to order with her as opposed to the kiosk. It also took a bit of time for the food to come out. When it did come out it wasn't our order, so we had to wait additional time. When it finally did come, it was really good. Very fresh ingredients, bread was homemade, it just really a good tasting meal. I do very much like the decor in the place, doesn't feel like you are in Castleton, feels very west cost. They also have donuts and coffee but I didn't have any of that.
