Came here after driving up the street from a different Murphy Express that was closer to I-20 (yes,…read morethe other Murphy Express that closed off it's restrooms and wouldn't allow any customers to use them). The four of us used the restroom here and looked at the various snacks and drinks. I asked one of the employees what the differences were between the slushies (or slurpees) and the frozen ices. To me, the brightly colored semi-frozen drinks looked like they were the same as they were in the vending machine that constantly swirled them around. The employee looked at me like I was wasting his time and said, "I've worked here for years and I've never had any of them, so I don't know what the differences are!" You would think that someone selling these things would learn a little something about them in the many years that he's worked here, but nope! About two minutes after that, the same employee yelled to one of his co-workers who was near the entrance, bellowing, "DON'T LET ANYONE ELSE IN THE STORE!" Anyone still in the store was allowed to leave, though ... Oh! It was closing time at 11 pm, and grumpy wanted to get the heck out of here. After taking our turns in the restrooms, we bought a slushy and a bag of spicy beef jerky. While we were paying at the cash register, the grumpy and tired employee, who had locked the front door and was on the inside ensuring that the only people going through the door were four of us, was now yelling at some woman who wanted to come inside. The employee kept yelling, "WE'RE CLOSED, MA'M! WE'RE CLOSED! to her". As we walked toward the door, grouchy unlocked the door and glared at us as we walked out. The snack and drink was good. The customer service was just absolutely horrible! Don't come here at closing time, because one of the employees will be a grouch.

I feel like we chose poorly in the end but we were able to get gas at a fairly good price. The bathrooms were fairly clean and the store was fairly well stocked. In the end I left without buying anything cuz I was hoping to get some juice and they had a lot of empty spaces where things would have been that I was looking for. My kid picked up a couple things and the person working the register was being really nice to everyone until they stepped up the register and they wouldn't even make eye contact with my kid.

On Sunday afternoon, after visiting family in the Lexington, SC, area, my wife and I were preparing…read moreto head home. So, I pulled into what appeared to be a nice SHELL / 7 - ELEVEN location for a refuel, and pick up supplies for the +500 mile return trip. My attempt to use the pump mounted credit card reader failed. So, I went inside and advised the clerk (a rather large young man), stating I needed to do a complete fill up on the diesel pump; approximately 35 gallons. The clerk replied: "No problem, just leave your credit card." As it's never a wise idea to just leave your credit card with someone for an undetermined amount of time, I declined. The clerk stated, "The credit card reader hasn't worked for two months." He then added, "Everyone else does it... what's your problem?" At this, I requested to speak to the manager. This clerk, not wearing a name tag, bluntly stated: "Come back Monday between 8 and 4." At this, I began to speak to another clerk (a young woman) who appeared shocked at how this person was treating a customer. As I was speaking to the other clerk, the obnoxious clerk stated: "Don't listen to him, he's just a ...!" The last word was intentionally unintelligible; but intended to be insulting and to escalate this into something more. Recognizing this, I picked up a receipt someone had left behind, thanked the other clerk for her attempt to handle the matter, and left. Fortunately, there was a competitor's location just on the other side of the interstate exchange where I was able to obtain $113.50 in fuel and about $20 in soft drinks as well as various snacks. As a result of my experience at this SHELL / 7 - ELEVEN location, it will be a very long time before wasting my time pulling into one of their facilities. If this is how they treat guest wanting to spend over $130 in a single visit, it's just not worth the hassle.
