They made several mistakes on a new policy, one of which had my home 700 sq ft smaller, when I…read morenoticed the mistake they were no longer competitive so I canceled the policy before it took effect. Because of one of their many errors they had to put the policy through with three separate charges. They said they would reverse the charges but after two weeks only one charge was reversed. I told them that if it isn't resolved soon I would dispute the charge with the credit card company, which I ended up doing. I then received a check. I called the card company and they said to deposit the check, and advise Allstate to contact the card company. Allstate said they would not contact the card company which of course wasted even more of my time. I didn't want two charges to appear. I can't believe that all Allstate offices are as incompetent as this one but I found much better rates with another major insurance company. If you have a policy with this agent you may want to read it carefully for errors. You will likely get better insurance with a different company.

The true test of an adviser is not how he behaves when markets are calm, but how he behaves when…read morehis client needs him. My advisory relationship with Wealth in Yourself ended on 1 June. On 4 June, the transfer of my retirement assets went wrong. My Roth IRA and rollover IRA were transferred into a taxable margin account. Because of the nature of the transfer, I understood that I had a limited period in which to correct the error before potentially severe tax consequences could arise. In order to initiate the recall process, I first had to verify my identity. The only method available to me was a call to a toll-free number. I was in the United Kingdom, where I normally reside, and was unable to use the firm's suggested workaround because it would not connect to toll-free numbers from that jurisdiction. Altruist suggested that my former adviser, Josh St. Laurent, arrange a brief three-way call so that the recall process could begin. He declined to do so. Instead, time was spent seeking alternative guidance that ultimately depended upon the same identity-verification procedure that I could not access. Twenty days of a sixty-day correction period elapsed before I was able to verify my identity myself. Ironically, I was able to do so only because I found an old international calling card in a handbag that I had brought with me from the United States years earlier. The assets were ultimately mostly restored. My concern is therefore not the existence of an error but the response to it. Prospective clients should satisfy themselves not only that their adviser has a sound investment philosophy, but also that they understand how that adviser responds when something goes wrong, how he interprets his obligations during a transition, and whether he is willing to exercise flexibility and judgement when a client's financial security depends upon it.

The employees have always been a pleasure to deal with, and I never felt that this bank was trying to take advantage of me, or suck my money one "service charge" or "convenience fee" at a time. I absolutely detest banks that try to nickle and dime you, and these folks have never done that. On a few occasions over the years, I've had some moderate snafu's with my accounts. The customer service folks happily worked hard to straighten everything out for me. I really felt that the CSR wanted to get everything fully rectified. Instead of blaming me for the mistakes and then telling me why I was penalized (a common tactic with big banks and their CSR's) they instead got to the bottom of the problem and did their best to make it all go away. I like that. Thank you Eldo.
