Stevens Creek Subaru told me I needed a top end rebuild on my 2007 Impreza that was leaking oil. They said there was no sign of an oil leak so it must be internal and it would be about 6k. Took my car to Devin at the advice of a friend that knew Devin. He told me they were honest and that they would not overcharge you like the dealer. Devin told me he would do a extensive diagnosis of the car and get back to me. Keep in mind I did sign for a estimate of a top end rebuild for 4k with these guys. Fast forward, no compression loss, no oil leak, fouled plugs and gapped incorrectly, timing was off, oil change and compression check, new plugs and a bill for $ sub 300.00. Much easier to digest than $6k. Yes please keep in mind I signed to have them complete the work for a top end rebuild at 4k. These guys saved me enough money to work on my 2013 WRX. Had my clutch replaced beginning of the year. All of the people that I had spoken to were very kind and helpful. I spoke with Drew multiple times before finally booking an appointment and each time he provided me with really good customer service. He was patient with the questions I asked and the service on the car was great! They finished within the time frame they had told me of about 7-8 hours and I was able to pick up the car before they closed around 6PM. I got off class a little later than expected but they were willing to wait up to a half hour in order for me to get there. I'm going to try and keep this as short and concise as possible but it's definitely a long story... so BMW starting throwing codes, after getting diagnosed by a BMW tech I was told my TMAP sensor wasn't getting a reading. After replacing the sensor with a new didn't resolve the problem I decided to do some research online and found that my issue was likely that the TMAP sensor's ground was blown. After more research I found a resolution and I attempted to do a TMAP ground bypass, after this failed to fix the issue I contacted speed element and gave them my list of troubleshooting and what the issue likely was, After running through some questions I felt confident that they knew what I was referring to so I went ahead and dropped the car off. This is where the issues begin. Despite me previously contacting them and going through my troubleshooting, and telling them what the problem most likely was based on research and symptoms, they decided to start from scratch. This is understandable but after a week of failed troubleshooting they wanted to try replacing my vacuum solenoid (300$) I agreed to the replacement because I was under the impression that maybe what I told them was the issue wasn't actually it. This of course failed also. After another week of troubleshooting they found the issue...EXACTLY what I told them the problem was when I dropped the car off. They just had just done a better TMAP ground bypass procedure than I. Frustrated but accepting because at least it was fixed. I went ahead and had them install an intercooler. My total for the work around 800$ kinda steep after 2 weeks of having the car only to find that the issue was exactly what i told them. I obviously could've saved money if they had just listened to me or had done any research. Still i was happy to just have my car back Good right?? WRONG! ... while driving home on the highway i went to pass a car and heard a loud pop noise... my car immediately failed and cut power and i had to pull over to the side of the highway.. i did a visual inspection and couldn't see anything that would stick out as an obvious issue (dark out). I was going to call the shop back but they were already closed for the day. I nervously turned the car off and on and continued my hour and a half drive home.. the codes had returned and now the car chugged and lunged, so at this point I'm upset because i payed 800$ and my car is in a worse condition than it was when i dropped it off. I guess they never tested the car under load. After some back and forth with the manager the following Monday they said they would take the car back and attempt to resolve the issue. So I dropped the car off the following day. And after another week they contacted me and told me that the intercooler could not seal properly, and that it was defective, not there fault but the fact that it was never tested is bothersome to me. So they also did a proper repair and soldered the ground that had blown. The best thing to do before replacing my entire ECU. They insisted that this process took several hours and it was generous of them to only charge me 300$ for it all. Frustrated still because it was a total of 1100$ and almost 4 weeks without a car. I payed and left just hoping that it would be over On the drive home the car cut power AGAIN! and i was side lined on the highway.... once again it was after closing on a Friday night so i would not be able to get in contact with someone until Monday. Over the weekend the car hadn't cut off again and actually drove fine so i decided I would just let it go. It drove decent for around 2 weeks occasionally chugging, then the codes returned and the car drove so poorly i parked it. leaving me in a worse position, 1100$ broker with my car that couldnt make it 10 miles on the highway without feeling like it was choking to death. The next month i dropped off the car at SSR performance i told them the history and that the cause was likely the same that it had always been. They ended up doing the same exact fix just better and now my car is fine... SOOO this is just to say go to someone who is familiar with your car save yourself the trouble. read more

Devin and the guys are awesome. Speed element has taken care of my Evo from day one. They can do it all, rebuilds, tuning, and any parts you need, they can get them. They're known to be one of the more expensive shops, but there is a very good reason for that. About two years ago my motor and my turbo blew up; no compression, and my turbo was pretty much non existent. They worked through options with me to find what would suit my needs best, were very honest, and explained everything to me along the way. The rebuild process took a while but the end result was exactly what I wanted. Needless to say I've been a returning customer ever since. Now I'm not the most knowledgeable car guy, honestly I know barely enough, I've asked dozens of stupid questions that I'm sure I should know the answer to but I always leave feeling like I learned something. Fortunately I found Speed Element, these guys know what they are doing and always super friendly to help. The techs there are knowledgable and give good honest opinions and guidance for any build. The attention to detail that these guys put is amazing. For example, they mount my tires and always match the dots without asking. Most shops don't even know what the dots on new tires mean. I do not like to write unsatisfactory reviews but going to be straight up honest with this one in particular. Recently took my car in to have an intake put on that I bought from them. First thing is they seem to have a little trouble during the installation process because the intake is jammed up against the battery from what I witnessed. I can tell that something is not right because the part should go on with ease. I verify that the part number matches specifically with the vehicle. Once everything is bolted up, the car will not startup, It turns out the Mass Air Flow sensor was installed on backwards. So when they flip the Mass Air Flow over to its "proper operating position", the car started up fine and on top of that the intake is not jammed up against the battery like before. Why? Well if the Mass Air flow was installed facing to right direction in the first place, the installation would be a lot easier without any trouble. I let you guys work on my car because I trusted you. I'm a customer with you guys for almost 2 years and I know you are more professional than that. I am disappointed in the fact that a mistake can easily be avoided with some common sense. read more

I've been taking my bmw to these guys for about a year and have had some bolt on's installed and some maintenance things done. These guys have a bunch of Subaru's and evo's so i think they are very good with those cars. I'm not sure how much they know about bmw's. Though all the work they have done on my car has been great (they've got the job done with no problems), they did fail to recognize some things on my cars. I had them inspect my rims and bushings due to steering wheel shake. They failed to recognize my rim had a slight bend, which another shop pointed out clearly to me. They also failed to see my bushing had leaked dry and were cracked. They incorrectly diagnosed my rotors as being warped. They also failed to properly locate the origin of my oil leak. It didn't really seem like they tried. It always seem like they are trying to finish up real quick so they can go home. Maybe they don't know my platform very well or maybe they just don't try. Either way, they are not very professional. I will only get small things done by them that are easy to do if I'm too lazy to do it myself. read more

Thought i had finally found a shop i could trust with my car, unfortunately this was not the case here. I brought my car in to them several times for two different problems. One being exhaust rattle which they tried fixing by banging on the rod hanger with a hammer and sending me on my way the first time and that immediately came back as soon as i went over bumps. The fix for that was just new upgrade hangers, but they were happy to just try and bang on my car and take my money. The other issue was a check engine light that i took the car in to them to fix and they turned off the code three separate times and the code just came right back on after leaving the shop. Again, they took my money those times as well without fixing the CEL. Along with the last time taking my car there, they swapped out my secondary o2 sensor with a different wiring harness that actually produced more codes then when i took it in with. I called them to try getting my old wiring harness back and they basically didn't care and told me to bring it in for more "diagnostic" and "testing". Long story short i didn't return to the shop because they were charging me for things that were not being fixed and on top of adding more CEL codes to my car and they didn't seem to care at all because they work on specific cars that they specialize in and my car not being one of them. read more
