While I have grown out of the worst of my stuttering, I wanted to fix some lingering issues. She never made me feel invalidated and always took my concerns, however minuscule, seriously. My son was 10-years-old and was still not producing a correct "r" sound. We kept thinking he'd…read moreoutgrow it, and when we realized he wasn't and that people were still having a hard time understanding him, we started scrambling to research speech therapy which we were completely new to (and since he excelled academically he didn't qualify for any speech services through school). Jamie responded quickly to my email with all the pertinent information I needed and when comparing her to several other well-reviewed therapists in the area we quickly settled on Jamie due to her more competitive rates and it was apparent that she was highly qualified and very easy to work with. She scheduled right away, was able to come right to our house to work with him, and get to work immediately. Within the first session she was able to teach him how to correctly produce an r sound which we had never been able to do with him. She had great rapport with him and though our son was very resistant to the idea of speech therapy, Jamie did a great job making it enjoyable for him and he even looked forward to his sessions. Teaching the r sound at his age can be a difficult one, due to him having to completely re-learn something he's been doing wrong for so long (and he's a BIG talker and communicator), yet we couldn't be more pleased with his progress in a VERY short amount of time. He's producing the sound with essentially 100% accuracy now and we are so glad we decided to invest in speech therapy, which is something I was very nervous about going into... Ms. Tallent is a pleasure to work with, is very knowledgeable in her field, is very easy and flexible in scheduling, and has great communication and competitive rates. I highly recommend her!

Jamie has been a huge help with my now 4 year old daughter's speech. And the great thing is Jamie is very flexible and great with children as she is a mother herself. When my daughter "graduated" she was a little sad because she had so much fun playing the games Jamie incorporated to help improve her speech inconspicuously. She cleaned and repaired them in about 15 minutes, and my mom could hear again almost immediately. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, pleasant, and genuinely helpful. The manager even went above and beyond by giving me phone numbers for medical transportation options since my mom is no longer driving. I apologize for not remembering everyone"s names Knowing this is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the community since 1967 makes the experience even more meaningful. We were so thankful for the prompt care, compassion, and professionalism shown to us when we truly needed it. I am incredibly appreciative and highly recommend them. Our daughter had regressed quite a bit when she was no longer eligible for speech services. Therefore, we now pay out-of-pocket for speech services and it has been worth every penny. Colleen is working to get our daughter back to her former level of communication and especially on her speaking clearly so others can understand her. We've seen steady progress, which is very encouraging. Colleen incorporates a unique method of whole body integration into the speech process that uses certain stretches, calming techniques, including body pressure points for calming the nervous system that my daughter can do on her own. She has homework in order to practice and benefit from these techniques at home, but the homework isn't so intense or time consuming that it becomes a burden. It really works! Colleen is well versed on the many issues that can affect speech; even sensory integration issues. Many speech pathologists we've come across don't fully understand and therefore don't use the sensory integration methods. Those particular movements are very beneficial in opening our daughter up to talking and they "get her going". Finding someone who is well versed in so many techniques has been a real find! Colleen is fantastic about parent communication, always keeps us Informed and is available for progress report meetings. We very highly recommend Colleen at Soar Speech and Consulting!
