They…read morerefuse to take responsibility for their serious mistakes and gaslight me whenever I confront them. The latest incident involved their failure to notify me when my mom fell at the facility. They sent her to the ER and had a contracted after-hours medical service call me from an 1800 number at 6:48 AM. This provider didn't inform me to look out for such a number in emergencies, so even if I had been awake, I wouldn't have known to answer. The Optum service team admitted they couldn't provide a specific number because calls come from various numbers. The facility claims Optum acts as their extension, while Optum says they aren't employees of the agency and that their relationship with the facility does not stop the facility nursing staff (staff in general) from contacting me directly. My mom has been at this facility for years, and they have always called me in the past when she fell or needed to go to the hospital, not the contracted Providers. From what I understand ( by research) this appears to be a state and federal violation. The bottom line is that my confused elderly mom was sent to the ER without my knowledge, and I only discovered it the next day when I noticed a wristband on her. She told me she asked the nursing home to call me, but they didn't. The facility continues to avoid accountability, as usual. I requested their grievance policy and form to file a complaint but was denied. Their regional Director decided he would not afford me this right and had the form completed by their Administration, not reflecting my chief complaint. I've received conflicting answers from the facility and the State Rep responsible for holding them accountable. This has been an ongoing battle just to protect my mom's rights and not be bullied by Administration (ignoring me many times, dismissing my concerns and gaslighting me) there because I am advocating for her.

For every provider for my child, these are things I look for and as a new mom these were things I craved. Especially as we entered a world I knew nothing about - the world of physical and occupational therapy. At Carolina Kinder Development we have been seen by Elizabeth and Jeannine who have worked with Afton on her development both physically and orally. From Elizabeth we learned what we could do to try to prevent the cranial band but did make the decision to move forward with one since Afton was a little bit older than most babies when they are first seen. We never get any pressure to do the band but I'm SO glad we did move forward. From Jeannine we learned how to work with her oral restrictions to open up get mouth and get her using her tongue correctly. We went from seeing our daughter barely be able to turn her head to one side to watching her rollover and stretch her neck back as far she can go. We watched her head transform with the cranial band. She went from leaking milk out of her mouth every time she ate to eating solid foods properly and drinking out of a sippy cup. We've watched her come alive through the hands of a skilled professionals. As well, the front desk made dealing with insurance and our expectations a breeze. Needless to say, we love our visits at CKD -- everyone makes us feel welcome and comfortable they listen to our concerns and answer our questions honestly. It feels like a family. Honestly, even though we are incredibly happy with Afton's progress, the only reason I'm sad is because visits are over. In short if it wasn't clear, I HIGHLY recommend Carolina Kinder Care.
