Whenever I visited, I was treated warmly, and my father was always resting comfortably in a clean room and a pristine bed, with carefully laundered, comfortable clothes. He had dementia, so he was unable to tell us how the staff was treating him (and never having been the type of person to complain) we had to take non-verbal cues. All the cues pointed to a staff that was both patient and caring. Trust was essential to us and something we considered heavily before deciding on a place for our beloved father. During his final days, our family experienced feelings that I cannot properly put into words here. Likewise, I am unable to express how sensitive the staff was in their treatment of my father. I imagine that they deal with loss on a regular basis, but never once did they regard our grief casually. My father was a kind, gentle, man and was known for his singing voice, his whistling, his love of jazz and his love of the Word. The staff made sure he was able to enjoy all these things during his final days. They all knew him by name, and said he was easy to care for and easy to care about. This was evident in their heartfelt farewell. You can not pay someone to care, and [care] is what they did here. Perhaps I have not adequately relayed, but in my heart I will absolutely, always appreciate every last member of this staff for giving of themselves so selflessly, when it counted most.

Their Physical and Occupational Therapy were wonderful. I had each therapy 5 days a week. They push you, but not so hard as to cause you to hurt yourself. The location is a long way from home, but it was the best. Going home today and will start out patient therapy Friday. Since I live alone - in patient rehab was definitely the only way to go! The best thing I can say is, you aren't dumped in a room and forgotten. The aids went out of their way to make me comfortable. My recirculating ice machine came with me and the aids would set it up for me. All medications were dispensed in a timely and professional manner. If anything else has to be replaced, I would not hesitate to come back. I forgot to mention their therapy dogs.

My mother moved to Aldersgate 9 years ago. She wanted to live in an assisted facility vs with one…read moreof her children because she wanted her independence for as long as possible. Each person and family is different and has different needs to be considered. She has moved through the entire community from Independent Living using Aldersgate At Home to help manage medications and have daily eyes upon her to Assisted Living to Asbury Rehab (as needed) to the Dementia Community to now the Asbury Long-term/Nursing Care area. Aldersgate has truly been a gift from God. My stress has continued to reduce as she has moved through the community. It has been so comforting having EVERYTHING she needs in one facility vs having to move organizations at different stages of care. The staff (saints sent from Heaven above) are professional, warm, kind, funny, honest and have cared for my mom like she was their own. At each level, the staff got to know her by name. It helps to enter Aldersgate early so the staff gets to know you, can see changes in you and assist you through the stages as needed. They truly care, are professionals and can guide you and your family through the stages as changes need to be made. It also helps when they are making the call to help a loved one get additional care vs you making that call. Your loved one is more receptive to the change when they realize the professionals are making the decision not their family. They still might not like it because they may be leaving new friends as they move to another area of campus but the family doesn't become "the bad guy". The staff is amazing at navigating with family dynamics. The staff moves around campus so as your loved one moves they do see some familiar faces as they make transitions and the staff has knowledge to pass on to new staff on how to best handle someone when needed. The facility is very clean and well maintained. I personally think the food is very good and frequently pick up lunch/dinner for myself in the cafe after visiting with mom. I have also eaten in the main dinning area with mom in the past and it was good. On occasion, like any place I might have chosen something I didn't care for but that's normal...overall very good. FYI..there is a black female chef in the cafe that makes the best omelettes for breakfast....yummy. Also, dont try the cappuccino crunch ice cream because it's addicting! At times when visiting from out of town, I have rented one of the rooms so I could stay at the facility but have my own space. While not fancy, it was clean and maintained. The facility gets pretty quiet early yet you can get a good walk up and down the halls at night or around the gorgeous campus during the day...don't miss the azalea garden. Aldersgate is "Top Shelf" in my book. If you or a family member needs care, I cant think of a better place to be.

Please Read: My elderly mom is at this facility, and the top administrators are terrible. They…read morerefuse to take responsibility for their serious mistakes and gaslight me whenever I confront them. The latest incident involved their failure to notify me when my mom fell at the facility. They sent her to the ER and had a contracted after-hours medical service call me from an 1800 number at 6:48 AM. This provider didn't inform me to look out for such a number in emergencies, so even if I had been awake, I wouldn't have known to answer. The Optum service team admitted they couldn't provide a specific number because calls come from various numbers. The facility claims Optum acts as their extension, while Optum says they aren't employees of the agency and that their relationship with the facility does not stop the facility nursing staff (staff in general) from contacting me directly. My mom has been at this facility for years, and they have always called me in the past when she fell or needed to go to the hospital, not the contracted Providers. From what I understand ( by research) this appears to be a state and federal violation. The bottom line is that my confused elderly mom was sent to the ER without my knowledge, and I only discovered it the next day when I noticed a wristband on her. She told me she asked the nursing home to call me, but they didn't. The facility continues to avoid accountability, as usual. I requested their grievance policy and form to file a complaint but was denied. Their regional Director decided he would not afford me this right and had the form completed by their Administration, not reflecting my chief complaint. I've received conflicting answers from the facility and the State Rep responsible for holding them accountable. This has been an ongoing battle just to protect my mom's rights and not be bullied by Administration (ignoring me many times, dismissing my concerns and gaslighting me) there because I am advocating for her.

I really liked a lot about the facility and all the employees we met were super nice and helpful. The main dining room, bar, and lounge areas looked like a country club and indeed we found out that they have a happy hour that is apparently very popular. I liked the fact that the independent living apartments had patios & balconies. However, there were a couple of negatives. The main one was that the facility seemed a little dark & dreary inside despite the fact that it was a beautiful sunny day. I think it is because the facility was built a long time ago (The Carriage Club has been there for over 20 years) and they have added on over time. It's a shame, but we ruled out this facility because of the darkness. They really should do some remodeling to give the space a more contemporary bright & open feel.

Brookdale was once a quality senior place, but things are deteriorating so fast that most want to…read moreleave. The food has become so mediocre to bad that many residents go out more often than eat in, eve though meals are provided 25 times a month. And the place is decrepit. I am compelled to let others know what they may face in Autumn Care of Cornelius. It was recommended by the hospital that I receive rehab after treatment for a severe break in my femur. I was given a list to choose from with star ratings. Autumn Care of Cornelius had only a 2 star rating, but a woman visited my hospital room and really encouraged me to try their facility-- that the poor rating was an old rating and they were a 4-5 star facility currently. She showed beautiful pictures and we were impressed with what she had to say. I checked other ratings online and the ratings were wide ranging. We decided to give it a go because it was close to home. As I was being transported to the place, I got a call from a neighbor warning me that many of the members of the neighborhood were "aghast" that I had opted for Autumn Care of Cornelius. I figured "What the heck--I am pretty laid back, easy to please, and it's only for a few days anyway". I am so sorry I didn't listen to them. I have been treated for years for chronic pain, due to a failed spinal fusion and peripheral neuropathy. As a psychologist, I am well aware of the dangers of addiction and opioid use, but my treatment at ACOC was nothing less than torture. My pain level from the accident was extreme, but it was never treated adequately. They would only give about half the medication I was taking for pain PRIOR to the accident. My new injury wasn't being treated at all and it was joined by pain from my prior condition. After hours of unrelenting pain, I begged them to contact my pain doctor and my husband even brought in my prescription bottles to show them my baseline pain treatment levels, but they wouldn't budge. They said since I was scheduled to leave the facility for an appointment with my pain doctor in 2 days, that I could just have him send recommendations back with me and they would honor them. I suffered through 7-8 level pain for 2 days, came back from my appointment with recommendations of my regular pain treatment plus a little extra that I could request for an extreme break out of pain. I was so relieved that I was going to get some relief, but very little changed in the next day, so I demanded to be released. They tried hard to convince me otherwise. One nurse tried to explain that some of the staff were misreading the dosage of the pill given (no excuse at all!) Ironically, the Physical Therapy team was outstanding, but I can't recommend you send your loved one there due to the unresponsive medical team. It is hard to give even 1 star. I encourage you to heed the warnings that I ignored.

It's definitely a sales tactic. The nerve of some people. Steer away from these people. If they treat agencies this way then they certainly do not care about seniors. It's all about money for them. Also if you're a home care agency, please go into these Facebook groups and see how other agencies describe their service. All leads go to multiple agencies and you're paying a ridiculous amount of money each month and not guaranteed to attain a client.

I asked for my nausea medication and the OT guy told me the NP would be with me in "one minute to three hours." What a joke! The bathrooms are shared. Who wants to share a damn bathroom? The floors are FILTHY in the whole place. You hear residents yelling in the halls all hours of the night asking for help. I was FORCED to get up and do PT even though I was in unbearable pain. I asked for pain medication, none was provided. I left on my own after one day there. NEVER place your loved ones in this facility.

All of the things that most Facilities like this have under paid and over worked staff and although I understand that do to these issues you may find that in order to get help to use the bathroom you could expect a 20-30min wait. I sympathize with the Facilities issues but as a paying Client its simply not my problem. After reading other reviews I really feel sorry about their experiences but I can only speak about my own experience which again was excellent so much so that none of the various inconveniences were not enough for me to complain about.

A pressure sore was discovered on my elderly father's heel and he was hospitalized for a week of…read moreantibiotic treatment. Once released, he required a stay in a rehab facility where the wound could be treated until it healed. He was admitted to The Pavilion and, from the beginning, there were problems. I was forced to be heavily involved, finding it necessary to follow up with the nurse's station daily to ensure his bandage was changed and he was showered on his scheduled days. On the night of October 29th, my father called and said he couldn't feel his legs. After three calls to the facility someone finally called me back to say they checked on him and he was fine. The next morning I received a call from my father and his speech was slurred. My wife arrived at the facility at noon to check on him. She arrived to find him lying in his bed, unclothed, feverish and agitated. The foot with the wound appeared purple. He looked up and called out for water, in a scratchy voice. The temperature in the room was set on heat, it was 85 degrees in the room and the window was open. She pushed the help button, but no one came. She searched hallway carts until she found a cup and water pitcher. My wife found a nurse who looked at my father and said they would run some tests, which could take three days for results, but could start him on antibiotics. They then stated they didn't have the antibiotics and they would need to be ordered. At that point we were not comfortable leaving him in the facility and requested that she call an ambulance. While we were waiting for the ambulance, my father asked to go to the bathroom. We pushed the button, but no one arrived, and after 15 minutes, he soiled himself. My wife walked the halls, found the nurse and told her he needed to be changed. Her response was that "they'll change him when he gets to the hospital". After a brief contentious exchange, the nurse and an aide came in to change him. He was taken to Novant Presbyterian where they determined he had sepsis and it had spread throughout his body. After discussions with the doctors, and family, he was placed on hospice and passed away four hours later from septic shock. In our experience, the apathy and unpleasant demeanor of the Pavilion staff, in general, was horrific. Without our active intervention, it is our opinion my father would have passed away unclothed, soiled, dehydrated and sadly alone, as not one person stopped to check on him over the several hours we were there. I filed a complaint with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and they have opened an investigation.

In the beginning my father required 24 hour care and then he changed to eight hour care then back to 24 hour care... there was occasional consistency at best. I must give a big shout out to Janice and Jenny who are absolutely fabulous! Janice would work double shifts to care for my dad! There was no doubt that these 2 took great care of my father. However, on the other hand we had 1 caregiver fall asleep on the job and 1 that could not stay off her phone. My appreciation to Amada for sending invoices and notes to my dad's long term health care insurance plan. Brad generally responds right away and tells you what want to hear whether completely up front or not. Overall, I would give Amada 3 stars but Janice and Jenny deserve 5 stars!
